Mamecade's rock! (Mines in my sig)... If you have any questions on the building or design I'd be glad to help! And yes my first home system was the NeS with all the accessories like the power matt and arcade sticks...
I wasn't around for the NES glory days, but when I was five years old, it was pretty much the only form of gaming that I had access to. Whenever we went to my grandparents' house, that baby would be booted up within five minutes of our arrival. Of course, their game selection was pretty limited (I remember only playing SMB, Duck Hunt, 1942, and a vague pinball game), but that was okay for my toddler self. Definitely threw me into the gaming world, and I still boot it up to play Duck Hunt occasionally when I get the chance to go over there. That game was awesome.
I grew up with SNES and N64. So, yeah. Get N or Get Out! (the above was a marketing slogan for the 64)
I started with an Atari 2600 and then Atari 7800, but the NES was a huge part of my gaming childhood. I once had a flee-marketed aided collection of like 120 NES games. Something like that. For some reason, Crystalis was always the holy mecca of NES gaming. Very hard game to find and, back before the days of FAQs and easily accessible strategy guides, a very hard game to play. Also, Baseball Superstars, Tecmo Super Bowl, Play Action Pass Football (most people don't realize that this is actually the true original, more so than Tecmo) Clash at Demonhead, Double Dragon II, and TMNT Manhattan Project. Good times. Hate those damn platformers though. They were so fricken hard. Even though I beat Mega Man 2, 3, 4 and SMB 3, I still hate 2-D side-scrolling platformers, largely because of how ruthless they were back in the NES days. Castlevania was the worse.
I have very fond memories of my nes and playing gems such as Shadowgate, Zelda1&2, Faxanadu, Metal Gear, marios, Duck Hunt, Ff1, etc...
I grew up right at the very end of the NES era (i'm 20). I have vague memories of watching my older brother play Paperboy and Super Mario Bros. Otherwise, the SNES and PSX are what I had.
I grew up with the N64, but I've always tended to like games before my time. I always enjoyed playing systems that were before my time, always loving things like the SNES, Genesis, etc. as a kid. I picked up a used console of both the NES (although I only have one game since I can't find anywhere that sells them) and the SNES which luckily came with a bunch of great games. Now all I want is a busted toaster so I can make myself a Nintoaster. Also, how do you make a MAME cabinet anyway and about how much did it cost to make? I'm tempted to make a cabinet one day for either MAME or my PS2 if possible for my fighting games and light gun shooters.
I grew up with the Atari 2600 as well, back in 1982 with the Coleco Gemini console, then a Colecovision, and then a real Atari 2600 by 1984. I remember reading in 1995 about the NES system in Games Magazine, and I wanted one badly. But I couldn't afford one, nor could my dad, so I just dreamed. Eventually I got a computer in 1985 though and completely forgot about consoles, because I could do more with a computer than a console. Apart from a few years collecting classic consoles, I've never owned a console since. I did get to play with an NES (and a Genesis) several times over the years mind you, but I still preferred my computer.
I grew up wuth a genesis. I was on the sonic side of the argument Even though I was on Sonic's side, I still liked Mario (but I never told anyone )
