      Developers like myself usually email them at least a week in advance of releasing our games.

      If you are talking about their weekly "coming tonight" post, that's a compilation of games released in New Zealand, where games come out nearly a day before they hit the US in most cases. Otherwise, as stated above, developers share info about upcoming games with sites like TA to generate prerelease buzz.
