The only requirement is OSX 10.5 which a Hackintosh will be running. Unfortunately, it's really up in the air whether or not the Intel Atom processor is going to have the juice to develop on or not. The thing about a Hackintosh is that the only guarantee you have is it will run the software that is available today, which means 10.5.6. If developing on the final iPhone 3.0 SDK requires 10.5.7 and the update breaks something in the Hackintosh install making it impossible to update, you're SOL until the hacker community figures out how to make it work. Personally, if I were depending on App Store income or had customers who had purchased my App depending on me for updates and the like I would want to use a platform that I knew would always work. Especially with how cheap Mac Minis are used (I bought a Core 2 Duo Mini for my parents last week for $400.) it's silly to depend on a Hackintosh.
I really wanted a Netbook and I've always wanted to have a Mac. I'm working on a fiction book so it'll be great to have that to carry around with me. I go to shows a lot (Vegas) and have an hour to kill here and there while I wait for the show to start. The Dell is perfect. If it can't handle the programming I'll look into a Mac Mini. But I'm going to try this one first.
brewster you unwittingly gave me the idea for my test app =) When you open it it will say "Next time say thanks you lurker!" lol
Oh yes, no complaints in that department. By the way, it's against the end user license agreement to use OS X on anything other than Apple hardware. For personal use that's up to you (license agreements aren't laws in most areas), but for developmental purposes, I'd say it's inadvisable at best. --Eric
Great. I can't wait for see what you'll have for me. I'd love to test, any time now. I'd have to find some other sap to install 3.0, but it shouldn't be too hard to do. Oh, and thanks.
