So one issue that I am having with SciFly II development is that since it is such a massive game, I probably wont be able to fit it in under 10MB. So, I'm wondering how often this will be an issue for people. Do you usually buy over EDGE/3G, WiFi, or on desktop iTunes. Thanks a bunch! (the issue being that you can't download games >10MB on EDGE/3G) [EDIT: Wow, looks like Desktop iTunes or WiFi is a big winner here. I was expecting something more 50/50. Thanks for feedback!]
Me itunes desktop or wifi Dont Quote me on this tho, I heard with the 3.0 update apple is taking of the 10mb cap for apps maybe?
I usually buy using my iPhone using wifi connection. Too lazy to use the computer really even though it's 2 feet away and the fact that I have to sync to my phone after downloading the game on my device. Takes shorter time just downloading on the device itself.
Usually at home on my Wifi or on my computer. I don't mind waiting to get home to get a large game. I'd rather have you put in all the data and make the game you want rather than make the game smaller just because you can't download it over edge/3g.
Is this poll directed to mainly iPhones? Because Touch owners (like myself) will vote iTunes/WiFi only.
lol such a lopsided poll XD who would voluntarily download off edge or 3G when WiFi is so much easier and faster.i use Wifi the most because no syncing is required and it is the easiest to do since i get most of mine from snipes. i have not backuped my phone in so long now
I looked on itunes but didn't find anything, so I'll ask here... What is edge??? Not the game but he list edge/3g, what is it in that context?
Well I was expecting more EDGE/3G downloads because I often find myself wanting to play games when I'm not at home and only have access to 3G. But, that only applies to iPhone users.
if its free i download it straight to my iPhone. Paid i download on my laptop so i have it. I usually dont have wi-fi so i cant download big apps either right to the phone.
EDGE is the internet service that's slower than 3G. It was the service used on the 1st generation iPhones and when you don't have 3G, you're iPhone should revert to an EDGE network.
That's why the poll is invalid.........think Touch owners that don't know what edge/3D is (iPhone related only) will vote for the only way too d/l. Should have posted for iPhone only and poll too.
Via iTunes on computer most of the time. If I really want to get the app right away and I'm not by my computer, then I use wifi on my Touch.
I don't think you'll get the real picture by asking here on TA. Us here are a lot more tech savvy hard core users than the average iPhone app buyer. That said, I think cost of data transfer (real or imagined) might make people quite afraid of using the 3G/Edge option. On the other hand, the average user may not be using wifi or itunes appstore at all... Tough call.
We installed a private broadband line into the office (in HK) to act as an emergency internet connection in case our main VPN to the london offices failed. Attached a wireless router to it, and voila! Free wifi at the office, and of course wifi at home too. No need to be that impatient to install via EDGE (using 1st gen iPhone)
I use edge almost exclusively. We don't have 3G here yet, and it will probably be a long time before we do. My computer doesn't even stay at my house, it hasn't left the studio in months. But wifi is easy to get to if needed for an app download. And I only backup and sync about once a month. As far as cost concerns mentioned. I would be surprised if that's an issue really. Most iPhones are going to be on a data plan anyway.
