So I have an iPhone 3GS with a screen protector on. The reason I put a protector on was because the finger-print resistant coating wore off completely and I was hoping the screen protector would somehow resist finger-prints at least a little. But it doesn't. So I've been on the hunt for a solution that would give my iPhone some kind of finger-print resistant coating. Since I have a screen protector on, I've been pretty daring. I've used Windex, contacts cleaning solution, and some acne face wash stuff (don't ask, I'm pretty desperate). The contacts cleaning solution actually works, but only for a while. So here's my question: has anyone found a solution where I can put on my iPhone, leave for a while, then wipe off, and a thin coating will stay on for a significant amount of time?
I have a typical clear screen protector sticker on the front my iPhone 4. Helicopter blade carbon fiber sticker plating on the sides and back, then kept in an Apple bumper. Every morning, I wet a paper towel, ring it out, then scrub my iP4 all over. I then use a microfiber type cloth (usually comes with glasses) to dry it. Works like a charm and my iP4 (underneath) is still in factory flawless cond. The sticker has some scratch marks from usage and cleaning, but it doesn't interfere with visibility or usage in any way and my iP4 is always oil, dirt and fingerprint free. I'm really anal about my idevices and want them in perfect condition for resale. If so inclined, I could replace the clear sticker any time for brand new cond. Not sure if this answers your question or helps.
It's always oil, dirt, and finger-print free? Mine is like an oil magnet D: I wipe my iPhone at least five times a day!
No joke, the wet, non abrasive paper towel scrub down, then after-wipe with the micro-fiber type cloth really works well. I absolutely can't stand the oily, greasy feeling on the iPhone after a gaming session. This has worked very well for me and you can feel it afterwards, that it feels like a nice clean surface. Your fingers jut accross the surface instead of the greasy sliding feeling. You can also see it if you hold it up to a light that it's super clean, no oil or prints. I was skeptical at first about scrubbing with a wet paper towel as I hate scratches, but if you scratch, you're only scratching the sticker so no harm. I use this exact same method on my glasses and they are scratch free. (Although I scrub harder on my phone than I do my glasses)
once every month or so, I do pretty much the same thing Creepshow does. tons of dust gets caught in my case, I usually just wipe fingerprints off with my shirt when it gets so dirty that i have hard time seeing the screen in bright light
@Creepshow I just did your method. Feels great right now! I'll see how it holds up the rest of the day. Thanks @wootbean I usually wipe my phone with my shirt too, but the oil still annoys me >_>
Yeah dust getting in the case is annoying. I usually take off my case and clean it in water about once a month. And I use a microfiber cloth to clean my iPhone most days.
Idk after putting my iPad 2 in the dryer it held a lot of static charge....should have used 2 dryer sheets instead of 1 (it is an iPad TWO after all). Maybe that's why they didn't replace it? Keeping your hands clean/dry is also an effective method.
+1 And my iDevices are always in factory mint condition. And I go fully naked...I have a smart cover....but don't use it unless outside the house. My apple logos on the back are never scratched it's not easy with an iPod touch though...it's almost impossible even with a case.
I use a Zagg InvisibleShield. For the price I haven't found anything that comes close to it's protection, from scratches and fingerprints. If you get the installation right, you'll likely never need another screen protector. As far as cleaning goes, the old shirt wipe method works best for me.
Once a week I take it out of the case and give it a good wipe down with a damp cloth and a little glass cleaner and wipe out the case then once a month I'll give the silicone case a warm soap scrubbing using an old toothbrush and then rinse n' dry. In the meantime I'm using the old shirt technique to wipe off the smudges on the screen.
uhhhh.... does it work?? I don't really do any of those all the time. I might wipe it, wet a towel, or just try and get some crap of the screen by using my finger. I'm sure those three are all more sanitary than spitting/licking it....
I spit on it and wipe it with my arm until it does that *squeaky squeaky* sound. On a serious note, I don't bother. I have my iPhone fully naked. I don't even have a lot of scratches.
I fill a buckle of water and soap dip my ipod in it let it stay for an hour then i take it out and just like new. Ps. in case you didnt understand my sarcasm this doesnt work my ipod has cracks for being to cheap to buy protectors instead i bought angry birds
