I was off on a completely different tangent last night. Can explain if you're interested.

    OK:

    sounds like clue=GREW+M=GROOM

    sounds like up=CUP+L+UP=COUPLEUP

dude in box who might be cold=BRR+HIDE=BRIDE

    diva singing=SONG

guy about to be bonked with air conditioner=ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN and everyone who is married knows that marriage is an accident waiting to happen! ;)

which lead me to WEDDING SONG or BRIDAL CHORUS

BTW, is your wife giving you crap about being on this site for hours and hours? Mine sure is! :D

Sleep deprived that's all I'm going to say about that:>

And yes, my wife doesn't understand either. I'm trying to be reasonable and quit around 1a at the latest but even that makes a rough morning start during the work week. I'm not sure how your doing it tho.

I have another thought about the fish:

Sounds like out of water = OUTOFORDER

You guys crack me up. Yes, this late night puzzle stuff is killing me. I'm seriously draggin' ass every morning.

    I'm liking INOPERABLE and OUTOFORDER.

I think I might have figured out how the up arrow fits in. Will let you know after I try a few things.

I still don't know, but I guess I could share my observations:

If you take DEFECTIVE, OUTOFORDER, INOPERABLE, and MALFUNCTION, the words all relate to "NOT WORKING".

If you think about "NOT WORKING" another way, you might get a variation of UnemPloyed (see the tie in to the UP arrow?).

    Interesting, no?

Yes very interesting. But WOW, that is quite deep thinking. I kinda hope it doesn't go that deep.

Where's garbot1 when you need him?

I want to find out if I need to rethink this puzzle from scratch!

instead of INOPERABLE, the last word could also be IN-OPERA-ACTIVE --> INOPERATIVE

still don't know about the ML<up>

I don't think so, it fits with what he's been hinting at, real well. We maybe a little off, but I think you have the theme and relationship down. I really like the way the answers fit together, but apparently we are still missing something.

The +ML<up arrow> is causing me a little concern.

But a little more guidance from garbot1 wouldn't hurt either.

Well those of you who are still up. Its past my bedtime and I can't think of anything else to try at the moment. Again I wish I knew what the +ML<up arrow> meant for sure.

I guess the other question I have is once we have the answers, is that just the next clue to the final answer? Sort of like what staulcub was getting at, all the answers pointing to 'NOT WORKING'?

    Oh well, nite everyone.

    ?
    HOVER WORLD
How did you get to INOPERATIVE from INOPERAACTIVE...? What happened to the AC? :D:rolleyes:

As for the +ML<up> I'm thinking that maybe a previous puzzle can help with figuring it out. T anyone? ;)

I think we're getting close with this one... :)
