See what this is doing to my life? Its just about 2am in the morning! Again the next tidbit has me still wondering. I've tried various combinations of words and haven't gotten anywhere. I'm still not sure if the list contains all the words we want. I'm pretty sure we want three words that when combined give us the password. I thought due to one of garbot1's last posts that we seemed to be still missing the first word and had the next two. I'm not even sure we have really figured out what the last two words are. I keep floating between different methods. The current method I'm partial to at this time is that the first word has the clue 'On the surface I'm a fine varnish'. The second word clue is made up of the next 8 lines. The third and final word clue is the last line 'Plus, I OWE NOTHING'. I just can't quite get a word to match well enough to the 8 middle lines of the riddle. I'm too afraid of reading to much into any tidbit that garbot1 is doling out. This is one puzzle where verification of each piece of the puzzle would come in handy. Of course that precludes knowing the first piece which I'm not sure we do. Hey, nite everyone (or possible morning to some.)
Considering garbot1's last hint, I'm thinking the first word could be OIL, which would fit varnish/garnish, and the last word FREE (for I owe nothing). I'm probably wrong, but these are my thoughts now.
Just a thought... This is a riddle... and with riddles things can be quite cryptic... So... "On the surface I'm a fine varnish" "Varnish" might not be as literal as you may think... Also, it may become more apparent once you work out the other two parts of the answer... Also, also - keep in mind that this is a password for a OPTICAL VIDEO link program. Again, this is just a thought from a damaged garbage droid.
Hmm, maybe LIGHT could be one of the words then. Other optical video related words: LENS, CIRCUIT, ELECTRIC (and variants).... What else?

The whole thread has been a contest, this being the 21st puzzle of the contest. The last two before this one were very tough also. This one is taking the longest so far tho I do believe. So please put on the thinking cap, we can use some different ideas.

Thanks for the warm welcome And no, I haven't read the entire thread, just the 4-5 pages before this one to see what your guys' ideas for this riddle have been. Would it help if I had read all the previous pages as well?
As the rest of you that have been around here can see I'm stalling. I really don't have any new input. Infact after the last go around I'm not really sold on any of the two clues/answers we are suppose to have already.
It may help to gauge or get a grasp on garbot1's thinking process. And how to actually tell if you find the correct answer (there is more to it than just answering the riddle.) But other than that you might get a good idea just from the posts about this puzzle. So dive right in and solve it for us already!!!

With fresh brains in here adding to the current teamwork we should have this puzzle solved very soon... I hope What we've established so far... Okay, seeing the smilies that garbot1 posted, it seems like the last 2 words have already been figured out.. Just a question for those who have been through a few riddles.. do the answers make sense? Like, if the answer is 3 words, would they be somewhat related? Or would they be completely random (like cat, lamp and necklace)?
garbot1 mentioned that if we figure out what the two smilies are then the first word will make sense so i guess that means they are related
Looks like the password has pluses in between words and the 2nd and 3rd have been figured out. I can't think of any non-literal meaning of varnish. Nor can I think of anything that is made from the middle 8 lines. Ideas for the last line: IO0, free, surplus (hmmm has plus in it), profit... I honestly have no clue. EDIT: also it has something to with seeing, or eyes, or vision.
I have an idea I think we have to split the riddle into 3 parts and then combine the answers off each part for the answer
