Apparently this app which is rated 17+ released an update that was approved containing images of topless women. The app is not available in the US store but there is a story about it over on modmyi. http://www.modmyi.com/forums/iphone-news/649681-apple-allows-update-nude-pics-nsfw-app-sold-out-first-day.html With OS 3 parental controls will Apple open the flood gates? It is hard for me to imagine that happening or imagine what the app store would look like if more developers jump on this. Is Apple loosening its reigns on questionable content?
The problem is, any 12-year old with an iPod Touch could download it. The most a parent can do is restrict access to iTunes payment, because not many people tamper with iPod security anyhow.
*sigh* If this goes like it looks like it probably will, this is going to make the flood of fart apps look like they never happened. I hope Apple is smart about this and doesn't include adult apps in the new release listings. I do not want to wade through neck-deep piles of pr0n.
they could have it set to where you would have to enter a password to enter the 17+ store...something set by the person setting up payment, but, yup, there would really be little you could really do to keep out someone underage who set's up their own account, etc
The problem with having these apps on your phone is that, well, they're blatantly there on your phone. You lend it to a potential girlfriend, "Oh, look, you have pr0n on your phone, you must a charming character." Or to a boss that forgot their phone (less likely, but still, you can't say no). It's a common known fact that people that don't have an iPhone like to flick through the pages just for the heck of it, and people that do have an iPhone like to know what apps you use. This app is way to risky to keep on your phone, and like others have said before, what's wrong with the browser?
I think the password idea is the best. If no password is entered (forced with every view) then 17+apps could not appear in searches. It would also be good to turn off sections of the appstore. Anyone worried about 12 year olds dl ing porn on there touches/phones.. Think about it. Downloading requires the net, and we know what 80% of that is ay?
Apparently, Apple was behind the pull after all, despite what the dev says, according to Engadget: Thank Og I don't have to "look forward" to an endless flood of pr0n apps.
Me too, especially if the dev actually did what I am hearing he did. Apple should kick him off the app store too, what an idiot.
I don't plan on adding any prOn on my phone - but i do NEED a feature that keeps certain apps hidden. maybe the last page can be a private page with it's own access code. it can't be that hard to do by Apple.
