First select Kard Combat iTunes link and switch to the Canadian store when prompted. Click to purchase the free game in iTunes then read info below.

Here is the link from Apple to create an account without a Credit Card.

I looked up an office building address a friend of mine works at in Ontario and used that address minus the suite number.

    Cheers!!

Thanks. Was able to download but can't buy any of the options as it won't accept any of my credit cards. Will it accept an iTunes card? I wonder.

Looks pretty neat but I'm pretty sure it does not have the diversity of O2 nor the same potential for combos. We'll see.

Sorry, but this game is horribly, horribly broken. I've played at least a half dozen games now and am really ready to give up. I'll probably buy it in the US just to play the Towers but multiplayer is broken.

I understand that you can't do well unless you have all the cards. Fine. That's a given. But the effects of cards are too powerful and there is no room for strategy. There are ZERO subleties.

    For instance? See attached.

I twice had my opponent down to teens and he casts this very cheap Earth spell that gives him outrageous amounts of life. In the last case, we went from 73-13 my favor to 73-73. What's the point of even continuing? Should I be patient and try for a 48-hour victory?

[[Re Earth spell: costs 4, gives you back double the life of your Earth mana.]]

Firgure it out, he still has enough Earth mana to gain another 188 life over the next five turns. This card is broken. The cost should be at least double what it is.

There are way too many way too powerful cards. There is zero incentive for someone with an incomplete collection to go the MP route and just get savaged time and again.

If anything, there should be some kind of ladder or level setup, where you play against weaker players/card collections until you win more matches. And the card set needs a lot of adjusting.

It's a nice idea and I'll buy it for the Tower challenges, but you will not see me online very much I'm afraid.

    Hi amn64,

Thanks for the feedback. Crux definitely is a very powerful card if you have close to 30 mana. We all play the game around the office a lot, and this situation hasn't come up yet. I've mostly seen it used in quick heal situations. Oddly enough, I have never seen anyone hoard earth mana to that extent yet, while I often see fire or air hoarding.

There are a few cards that are very powerful with that amount of mana, specifically the fire and air direct damage cards(catastrophe and bolt). With 30 mana, those cards could end the game in a couple of turns.

I try the fire hoarding a lot myself, and generally its a race to see if I can hold my opponents long enough so that I can use it. And its often very hard, as your opponent will see what you are doing and try to put pressure on you to change strategies. And the loss of an entire magic type for an extended period is crippling. In the case of earth magic, its usually hard to save up mana as there are so many useful earth spells.

Its got some great creatures - 'hermit' will heal you 3 life a turn, 'gentry' can chew through creatures if you buff it up, 'general' can save you from being overwhelmed by creatures, 'nephilim' is invincible to weaker cards, and both 'feeding worms' and 'vassal of earth' are extremely tough. At 30 mana, you could summon a vassal of earth that does 20 damage a turn.

On the spell side, 'the world' is essential at times to save you from creature mismatches.

In order to get 30 earth mana, you have to avoid using any of those cards for 30 (or less if you can get keep a sage alive for a while) turns, which is often easier said than done. And if a player who is able to save up that much mana will usually be a grave threat.

In that sense, its ok for the cards to be extremely useful at high mana. Its hard to say whether something is overpowered without looking at it over a lot of games though. Many of us at hothead are regular players of this game, and often discuss balance issues. We are definitely going to look at that card - a lot of our local matches over the next days will have someone hoarding earth mana and playing crux.

We would also love to hear other people's opinions on this card, and whether it is overpowered for its price. And if you feel that other cards are similarly overpowered amn64, we'd be very interested to hear about it. I'd also be curious about the cards and mana that you had in that game.

It's not all that difficult to focus on four elemental groups, reserving the fifth for a buildup to cast OP spells/creatures. It happens often enough in Orions 2 but the difference is there is typically an effective counter or offset.

As someone who played in 1 PT event and 2 US Nationals, I think I have a decent amount of appraisal ability of a card set. Btw, I beta tested O2. And yes, although I'm a fanboy, I still like you game and intend to buy it but it does definitely have problems.

In KC, it's all about getting the big hitters out there as soon as possible. There are virtually no subleties here at all. In the same example as shown, if my opponent with 30 Earth now brings out a Vassal of Earth at 20 Attack, what am I supposed to stop it with? The thing is not only enormous, it has a spectacular amount of life at 48. If I'm lucky enough to bring something like a Heirophant into play, it will still be gone in two turns and wind up doing only 7 damage to the Vassal of Earth. Omg.

In O2, I might be able to case an Ethereal for a modest cost, which will take zero damage from any creature opposite it. That's subtle.

Also OP although it is a fairly low life card is Emperor. If you can build up Air mana and be able to cast one and another when the first gets savaged, the opponent will quickly fall behind.

Look, I really need to reserve some judgment until I can play with the entire card set but my initial impressions are a decent game that needs some improvement. I do not intend to post any reviews until I have had ample opportunity to review all the cards in actually play and I do expect to enjoy the Tower campaigns.

However, please be advised any broken situations that arise have the potential to quickly erase your fan base.

Incidentally, my completed game vs. gregan32 still shows my move, although I won. It shows him at 0 and me at 34 life and strangely, it shows an Ossuary in my second slot and I have no death cards - playing Machine cards in that match. The only way to delete the game seems to be to "resign" although it is a win. ????

Given the option for async or sync, it would be best to at least constantly show if your opponent is online with some kind of icon (allow life total to slowly flash?). It's been annoying from time to time to make a move, wait, wait, wait, opponent finally goes, make a move, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, finally give up and go offline only to see a move again whenever.

I completely understand that some folks want async and can live with that. I just can;t stand waiting when no one's around.

    Hey amn624

Some great points there for sure. We plan on continually updating and improving the game based on community feedback. There are some other cards that might be able to handle something like a large Vassal of Earth, although I think part of the trick is pressuring a player to use the less powerful cards in a column early. Either way, I'd love to know what you think once you've had some time with the full card set.

Your last two points are spot on, also.

We've fixed the confusion surrounding the end of a multiplayer match and are preparing to submit to Apple on Friday to get that out.

Regarding the turn-based nature of the game, I think it comes down to how people want to play the game. We've just added the ability to have a huge amount games running simultaneously which some people here really love. For me, personally, I like to get a game done quickly and then move on to the next one (it feels like a more efficient use of my time to focus on one thing at a time). As far as that goes, something like you describe for at least letting people know when their opponent is online is something we'll investigate. Another thing we could do is add a timed multiplayer mode with a 2-minute turn limit.

Anyway, it's early days right now so keep the feedback coming.

    Hamish

  8. Richard Garfield helped on this?
Alright then, instant purchase then...but not for what you may think.

In 1996, Wizards of the Coast shipped THOUSANDS of Magic: The Gathering starter boxes to us soldiers in Bosnia to help while away the hours we had in our limited downtime inside the wire. We had tournaments each week on the various camps.
I didn't get to play much due to my particular job keeping me outside the wire most of the time, but the guys loved it.

That game was played everywhere. Soldiers played it on the front slope and back deck of tanks, inside M113A3 APCs, in M88 recovery vehicles, in fuel and cargo HEMMTTs...whenever there was downtime, soldiers would whip out their decks and play.

So for that - and that alone - I'll pony up the dough to buy this game that Richard Garfield helped design as a tiny token of thanks for creating a small, portable game that the soldiers loved to play on deployment.

    Kard Combat Art

Yesterday I received a delivery of 30 x A2 Kard Combat posters printed digitally onto photographic paper. I chose 3 different pieces of card art and printed 10 of each. They look very cool indeed and the printing company has done an amazing job with them.

I am going to ask Richard Garfield to sign some of these and then use them for competition prizes, but ever since the posters arrived in at the studio I have been pestered by some Hothead staff requesting a poster or two. This is a good sign of the quality of the "swag" but I think I am going to lock the posters away or I may end up with a significantly less than I ordered at this rate!

Out of the 3 card art designs we had printed, my favorite is Specter, (and I may have to put one of those aside for me!)

Here he is in all his glory, but wrapped in the card artwork:-

Would like option to mute music

    Hi,

Nice game. Reminds me a lot of Orions actually. :)

Appreciate the Universal version, and am looking forward to buying the full version when it's available in the US store. But I'd *really* like to be able to kill the music.

    Thanks. :)

Hey missalexis. That, and the ability to play your own tunes in the background is next on the list for us. We're trying to squeeze it into our Apple submission for the worldwide release, which we're in the final stages of preparing as I type this. If it doesn't get in now, it'll be in the next update for sure.

So you'll actually support your game and establish a dialogue with your fans? What an interesting concept. I can only hope that the Orions 2 apologists will be able to adjust to the idea ...

It's really important to us to be in constant communication with our fans so that we can keep improving the game based on their feedback. On that note, thanks to everyone for your feedback so far.

granted, the card art is amazing. but the environment art is atrocious. the whole thing just lacks sharpness and finess and polish. (KC on an iPad). this is important to me as I'm waiting/searching for a card game I like before investing time and money into it. tried Shadow Era (didn't like the forced online play) and Orion 2 (didn't like no iPad version). I'm your new player, and to attract me, i need to see something gorgeous before I will get interested in the game mechanics (although I played Magic a while ago, I have forgotten since).

Will you be polishing this up once you've got a settled stable release?

It's interesting how I also fall right into this demographic. And I suspect a healthy number of other people out there feel the same way.

I found Shadow Era dull and bug-infested. Orions 2 needs to be universal ... and, let's face it, it won't be supported. We all know that.

There seems to be a demand (in the economic sense) for a good TCG on the iOS platform. The question is: who will take up the supply? Will it be Card Combat?** I'm ready, and so is my wallet. But I won't pay for a game that cuts too many corners.

**I absolutely refuse to type that STUPID name. I'm not a dull-witted 11-year-old who thinks it's clever.

Komrade! What ails that you kan't enjoy our kwirky name?

You kan google it easily, and the name klearly konveys the genre!

Besides, Richard Garfield has it in his kontract that he won't kollaborate on a game unless that game has a silly, generic name. But remember: that's not krazy...it's magic!

    I love your game! Excellent!

Only thing I hate about it is open feint, I totally removed it from Push Panic in the last update.

Anyway: Loving this more then Orions and Shadow Era!

I even opened an canadian app store account and bought a iTunes gift card, as I could't wait for this to be available in the Netherlands :)
