Can someone tell me how oversimplified the combat is? I heard it was a watered down version of IB2's, is that true?
It is simple, but there is some strategy to it. There are no combos, but rather each enemy has a weak point in their armor which needs to be found by hitting different sides. Once it's identified, the best tactic is to avoid there attacks while trying to damage that specific area until the armor completely breaks, and you can inflict large damage to that exposed area. This also relates to the after battle report card, where you get scored out of five stars. Damaging the weak spots while not taking damage seems to score the best. The better the performance, the more money you get. It can be quite fun.
It's more like Monster Hunter iOS. You have two buttons to roll to the right or to the left. The enemy attacks you, and you have to dodge its attack, and then swipe to deal damage. There are some attacks that are difficult to dodge, and some special attacks where you need to swipe upwards to jump. This would make this part of the game a bit boring, that's why the enemies have one weak point hidden. You need to roll and attack different spots of the enemies while destroying their arms, body, etc. Once you find a orb, you have to attack it to deal more damage. It seems simple, but it works (better than Dark Meadow battles), but it needs some combos and special abilities.
Is the game linear or does it allow for some exploration, hidden treasure, etc? How much if the game is point X to point Y and how much is "go here but we won't tell you how to or where it is"
It's linear without giving you the impression that it is. While in towns, you can explore around. While in the dungeon like areas the game keeps you on track by showing you where you need to go by putting crystals in areas you should explore. There are random treasures laying around, but some you have to look for. For example, some treasures are in little dugouts where you must cut the grass out of the way to find. Others are just holes you crawl into. In these areas are more crystals or treasure chests. Basically, it kinda fools you into thinking its more open than it really is. And nots not a bad thing. Because the open world sometimes contains parts of the puzzle to figure out where you need to go or access certain levers to activate some doors.
there is hidden paths behind bushes you will chop the bush down and reveal a hidden cave for instance... the game is open to a point its broken into a town and in the town you have a place to customize your weapons, and there are like doorways to get you to other places and there is even a gladiator mode to earn money. kinda like demon souls where you have a hub that branches off to other places. it seems like a pretty big game tho alot of story great voice acting and sense of humor. its a metroidvania/zelda game with infinity blade 2 elements.
Most of it is pretty linear. Its really easy to get through the levels most of the time, except for the occasional puzzle or hidden switch. but there are a lot of hidden areas you can explore to find extra money or blueprints to build better items, so that encourages you to check out side paths and look for hidden entrances. Essentially, its really easy to get from point X to point Y, but you have the option to stop off a lot along the way to find hidden money and items, which sort of drew me to explore the whole world more.
I'd say its more zelda than either IB2 or a metroidvania game. IB2 is based around the fighting system, which really doesn't have a whole lot in common with the system in Horn, other than the swipe to swing your sword gesture. Metroidvania games take place in a single large environment where you progressively get new equipment to reach different areas. In horn, it seems like you get all your tools in the beginning, the only new item I've gotten was a new song for the horn. But definitely zelda. the fighting system is very similar, you get a long-ranged attack (like the bow, but only for puzzles and small flying enemies mostly) and there's an emphasis on exploration.
Sorry bro, but Mage gauntlet, Super Quick Hook, Super Brothers: Sword and sworcery, 10000000, League of evil, and Mo's Speedrun all have pixel-y graphics and those are arguably some of the best games on iOS. I think I'll just skip this game, if I'm not sure that it'll even run then there's no way I'm even gonna consider it. Meh.
Nah, I think I'll stick to Dead space, Mc2, Mc3, Nova 3, CodWAW, Shadowgun, Infinity Blade 1 & 2, Street fighter Volt 4, Real Racing.
And then there's 100 Rogues, Astronot, Legends of Yore, Monkey Ninja, Organ Trail, Omegapixel, Spellsword, Stardash, Wizorb, Necrorun, Tower of Fortune, 1-bit Ninja and 774 Deaths. Definitely some of the best iOS games too. Im happy with Horn on my ipad3, but during exploration i experience some visual hiccups which does suggest the game being a resource-eater.
Wrong. Read the App Store page for yourself: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/horn/id549350579?mt=8 PLEASE NOTE: iPad (1st Generation), iPhone 3GS, iPod touch devices NOT SUPPPORTED.
