So this seems like an annoying hold-over from Dark Meadow. It worked in that game because it fit the storyline, I can't imagine that being the case here.

Timing is just right when this came out. Going back to my hometown for the whole week, visiting relatives and such. Boring! At least now I have Horn to fill my time with :D

Great game! Was a little worried about buying a game published by Zynga, but so far I haven't hit any paywalls, and I've been able to play for the most part without IAP (I bought the assassin costume because I wanted the assassin's creed look and I wanted to support Phosphor, but it wasn't necessary. I'm not even using the weapon that came with the pack.)

The combat system is decent, but I wish there were combos instead of just rapid swiping. However, it avoids becoming a swipe-fest by using the clever armor and weak point system, so it matters more where and when you're swiping rather than how you're swiping. Also awesome are the exploration and free roaming elements. Grappling hook, moving along ledges, jumping huge gaps, all use intuitive gestures instead of buttons.

About the heat issues: I have an iPad 3, so it's not the first time this has happened. But it's only really in extended play sessions, like over an hour at a time for me. In my opinion, GOF 2 HD is much worse, though I'm playing at full resolution so I guess I should expect that.

About the Dark Meadow's IAP situation: It is a shame how they broke the game, but atleast they listened to their fans and tried to change it. Some companies would never admit to that big of an error (etc Gameloft and Dungeon Hunter 3), much less try to remedy it. Either way, the Dark Meadow was a great game and I don't regret buying it full price.

Keep up the good work Phosphor!

The frame rate looks absolutely horrific. Is it always like that on a 4S or is it just something to do with the video recording/playback?

I'm assuming the recording. It ran far better than that on my iTouch - not throwing as much visual data around, obviously (no Retina, low res textures, very few FX), but still...

Gah, this is the first game where I've been this eager to see a patch come out! (Did one get submitted for that early crash, then?)

Can't wait to download it on mi iPad 2! :)
It's amazing how many games I downloaded without a TouchArcade review (Trigger Fist, Random Hero, Mad Skill BMX) this week. Crazy...

Yeah... I thought i was just going to enjoy a few of the releases this week, but it's a very good week for iOS gaming.

Yes, they do - but you still get dumped into the 'home town' and have to make your way back to the quest to start from that checkpoint. Far better if it loaded at the checkpoint, I think?

Oh, so it works like NSMB... I only died a few times in the challengue level, and the "checkpoint" worked (there are no checkpoints in that level, but the game asks if I want go return to the town or continue playing the level).

WTF, DM premium is different from the DM free version. In the DM FTP version some equipment (well, a lot) is bought with the sun coins, while in the premium version everything is still bought with gold, and you get more sun coins in the premium version, and they are almost useless, so the premium version is still the same as before, just with more content and options. Not listening to the customers would lead to make the premium game just like the FTP version.

Anyway, if you think that you would like this game, just buy it. And I repeat, you don't need to buy any IAP in Horn.

    A few suggestions to Phosphor:

    1. Instead of automatically playing the horn, make players tap the notes like when you learn the songs originally. You can do it like aquaria where there's an index of all the songs you know so players won't need to memorize them.

    2. In cutscenes like that of when you defeat the cuthbert colossus, or when you're fighting an enemy and you smash them off a platform or through a wall, add a QTE gesture or two. It'll make it more engaging.

Yes, it is as good. But they are very different. They only similarities are in the swiping to attack. That's it.

When deciding to buy it, don't try to compare it too much to anything else. On its own and in its own right, it's a great game. Engaging. Good story. Worth buying.

Is this game really that great? I also think 6.99 is a great price for games that offer a console like experience. After all, iOS is the next gen gaming console.

    Disable intro movie?

Just a minor annoyance, but is there a way to disable the lengthy intro movie? Cool when it loads the first few times, but after a while, I wish I can skip it...

lol I just shared my opinion that they did listen to their customers, maybe not the way that some people wished, but they still tried it. MF, for example, did the opposite, they made a game with IAP and a set price with two currencies, one which needed a lot of grinding ($) and other which you couldn't get in-game (gold). Some weeks after, they made the game completely FTP and even more about grinding than before.

It's your choice to buy or not buy the game, but if you think you're going to enjoy it, then don't wait for a only-rumour-based FTP transformation of the game.
