    In the spirit of Halloween...

    Character: Bones
Hook: A long rope made of many bones. Upgrades add extra bones, making it longer.
    Shotgun: Shoots skulls
Rocket Boots: Throws his head and his body follows it :D
Backstory: One day, while Jake was exploring the Temple of the Dead, he found an odd bone sticking out of a graveyard. Curious, he pulled it out to discover if he could sell it in the shop for anything. When he pulled, Bones came out. Since then, bones has been chasing Jake around for his brain, but can never quite catch up.
Plays: Not a very fast walker, but has many bones making a long rope, and the holes in his body make him have high speeds and momntum while swinging.

Character: Count Vamp (or Vampy, Count, Vamp)
Hook: Lengthens his cape and uses it as a rope
    Shotgun: Shoots bats
Rocket Boots: Stretches his cape out with his arms, as if they are wings, and flys up a short distance
Backstory: After being woken in his coffin from one of Jake's raids, Count Vamp/Vamp/Vampy/Count was free to roam as he wished. His goal was to free all of his brotheren also locked in Temples.
Plays: Always moves faster in the air, and falls significantly slower. (Possibly holding bottom part of screen allows him to fall faster if needed?)

    And for my real entries...

    Character: Ryan "Sail"
Hook: His trusty Harpoon. Pretty much a stick that shoots a hook on a string out the end.
Shotgun: uses his handy revolver he earned on the ship during his pirate days.
Rocket Boots: Rides a wave a little bit up. He has his own little pirate ship for one to ride in. :D
Backstory: Ryan "Sail" was stolen from his small trading ship when it was raided by pirates, and they deemed him "Strong, young, and fit." They made him a cabin boy on there ship, but he worked his way up and became captain. Finding treasure was his love, and when one day he saw Jake coming out of a Temple with bundles of treasure, Ryan set out to get some of the profit. He got the nickname "sail" because he used his harpoon to fly high above the sails on his ship.
Plays: After being on the ocean for so long, he lost his bearings for the ground, and therefore moves slow. He moves extremely far and fast on bodies of water, and during his wave (Rocket Boots).

    Character: Amy Blade
Hook: Laces on her Blades :D
Shotgun: Uses the blades on her feet to do a backflip and kick out, sending a wave of energy to hit things.
Rocket boots: Makes huge leap wither her blades
backstory: Amy has used her Roller Blades since the age of six. After honing her skills after years of training, Amy now is one of the best bladers of all time.
Plays: Fast on ground, and can make quick (but not too high) jumps.

    Character:Ace Black (or Black Ace!)
Hook: Throws a rope made out of playing cards.
    Shotgun: Shoots poker ships
Rocket Boots: Shoots hundereds of cards out of his feet for an extra boost.
Backstory: Ace Black is known as the worlds greatest dealer and his name is known in any Casino around. To hone his skills, he plays with cards in the Temples. The extra money helps with his gambling habits, too.
Play: Very lucky, and the monster can sometimes miss him completely. Also pretty good with momentum (Swinging)

    Character:Jett
Hook: A cable off of his airplane.
Shotgun: Throws miniature models of his airplane.
Rocket Boots: Gets on one of his miniature airplanes and goes for a quick ride.
Backstory: Jett is a Jet plane flier who recently crashed his personal jet into the middle of an ocean. He scavenged many of the parts, but some were broken beyond repair. He loots Temples so he can make enough money to rebuild his Jet.
Play: Amazing in the air, and whenever hes not on the ground. VERY slow on the ground, though. Loves to fly. Also has really high jumps.

I had to post a few more :)

    Name: Ourock Bronzebeard
    Appearance: Tolkien-esque dwarf
    Hook: Teleportation stone
Attributes: Ourock mined the caves where the idols now later for centuries before the first 'hookers' arrived. He uncovered many ancient treasures in the ruins. One such treasure was the mysterious teleportation stone. When Ourock throws the stone, he can instantly teleport to it By continuously throwing and teleporting to the stone, Ourock can keep up with the fastest of the new treasure hunters.

    Name: Edward Flash
Appearance: Like the super hero 'Flash'; red jumpsuit
    Hook: A hookshot
Attributes: Edward was once an ordinary man, but a meteor storm imbued him with inhuman speed. Edward -- now known as 'Mr. Flash' is fast -- very fast. When swinging through the caves of the idols, his speed is unmatched. However, a side effect of his power is that his fast metabolism prevents him from moving too slowly. Should he stop swinging or move to slowly, he will instantly explode.

    Name: The Countess
    Appearance: Female vampire with cape
    Hook: A hookshot
Attributes: In addition to swinging through the caves like other adventurers, the countess can also periodically turn into a bat, allowing her to glide through the air. Additionally, she can summon a swarm of bats around here. The bats explode on contact, boosting her into the air.

As the current holder of the coveted #1 high score for the infamous Golden Skull level, I demand attention!

    Name: Michael the Scot.
    Ability: PARKOUR!
Story: A Scotsman from the East coast, Michael the Scot has decided to take drastic measures to save his floundering small business! Manager-turned-treasure hunter, he utilizes the ancient art of parkour to navigate lost temples and pilfer forgotten treasures. As a parkour fetishist, his powerful quadriceps can propel him to the mightiest of heights! When he inevitable falls back down, his elegant somersaults cushion the blow. Given enough momentum, he can even run across walls! Throughout his superb athletic performances, he intermittently shouts out his curious battle cry: "PARKOUR!" Of course, at the end of each exploration, he is picked up by his workmate, Dwight the Shrewd.
Game Mechanics: He runs fast and jumps high! He doesn't have a hook, but when he runs, he gains enough momentum to catapult himself to tremendous heights and to run across walls. He also yells out "PARKOUR!" rather frequently.

    Name: Paul D. Geist
Ability: He catches ghosts, and devours their tears. Oh, and he has a pretty cool holy gun.
Story: Even the mightiest of ghosts trembles upon hearing the name, Paul D. Geist! A devout man of God, Paul has taken leave from his quiet prayers to purge all that is unholy from this world. Wielding a holy gun made of a donkey's jawbone and a whip made of Samson's legendary hair, he is ready to rock! Oh, and about that ghost tears thing? Turns out they are exquisite.
Game Mechanics: Rather than being chased by ghosts, Paul chases one! Think time trials or the ghost races from Mario Kart. In order to defeat them, he uses an upgradeable gun. I guess he donates the gold coins and gems to charity or something.

    Name: Gordo. Just Gordo.
Ability: He's fat. And he farts a lot.
Story: Gordo is fat. I'm not quite sure why. Rumors say that he was once a beautiful princess, but was captured by the soldiers of a rival kingdom and forced to consume delicious pastries (so that he'd be more difficult to rescue). Somewhere along the way, he also turned into a guy. Anyway, he's run into some tough times, and he's having trouble feeding his feeding habit. As such, he's turned into a treasure hunter, yada yada yada, hook champ.
Game Mechanics: Gordo is so hungry that he'll even eat coins, gems, and bats! When he collects these things in temples, he immediately consumes them, and they significantly add to his weight. He runs slower, he weighs more when swinging on his grappling hook, he sinks faster, and he breaks through breakable walls more easily. Rather than rocket boots, he is able to compress his farts into explosive blasts in order to propel himself. Of course, these farts, having come from the terrible indigestion he gets from the atrocious things he eats, lessen his weight.

    Name: Frank the Frog
    Ability: He's a frog.
Story: Times are tough, and with the decline of the economy, Frank has lost his job, his home, and his wife. It's not easy being green. Yet, he somehow finds the strength to hop on. After all, someone has to feed his tadpoles! Having found an ancient map buried in the mud where his home once stood, Frank has resolved to find the lost treasure! With these riches, he plans to reclaim his job, rebuild his home, send his children to Lilypad League schools, and have Mr. Toad - his ex-wife's wealthy new husband - offed.
Game Mechanics: Frank uses his long, strong tongue to navigate dungeons (instead of a grappling hook). I guess he's kinda like Gene Simmons in that sense. His powerful legs allow him to jump to great heights, and he can swim faster in the water. Alas, on the land, he can only slowly and awkwardly hop along.

why not a character with style?! :D

character: Agent Wolfbite: flash black suit, dark sunglasses, great hair and all!
    Hook: Sleek grappling hook gun!
    Story:
Seems those idols do belong in a museum! Agent Wolfbite is a hired assassin (the most ferocious, determined and mysterious of his trade) concerned with eliminating that pesky rope-slinging hook champ, and claiming all artifacts in the good name of the museum (and a handsome sum of moolah)!
Armed with a jet-pack for extra speed (when swinging and running) and a bazooka that fires stylish and expensive ties: Agent Wolfbite is yearning for some blood (and some new cologne)...

    or what about his boss?

character: Curator Jenkins: Grey vest (buttoned), short white shirt, red tie, brown trousers, comb-over, thick-lensed glasses...need i say more?
Hook: His two buck teeth extend drastically: using them as a pole vault over obstacles
Weapon idea: slings "no touching" signs in a sort of shuriken star style
    Story:
Thinking that he was the only one with the knowledge of the lost, ancient temples, Curator Jenkins is enraged that someone got there first! Determined to claim all artifacts for the sake of his museum, Jenkins is willing go at any odds to do so- including eliminating anyone that gets in his way.
Although slow, his sinewy, slouching figure allows Jenkins to dodge and skulk over obstacles with ease.

I am totally voting against all vampire entries because they're too goth. Then again, there's two more people to vote against me.

Contest still ends Saturday at 5 PM pacific. We'll close it then, discuss all the entries, and put it to a vote among the Rocketcat staff (of 3 people, one of which will vote NO on every entry that is too goth).

    Hook:Dental floss pack
Ability:Can fly, can throw coins at the monster

After spending thousands of years collecting teeth from small children she decided she wanted something bigger, much bigger. So her, along with the easter bunny, went searching through ancint tombs to try and get the biggest treasures they could find.

    Flora
Uses a chain of flowers as a hook
Shoots a vine backwards for shotgun that stuns
Rocket boots replaced by a wattering can- she waters the ground and huge sunflowers grow, propelling her

Flora is a young girl who loves plants. her dream is to collect every single type- but alot of the very old ones are buried in temples.
She loves the ground, and moves faster on it. Doesn't like the air much. Less speed + Momentum

    Tim
    Tail is a hook
    Throws poop as shotgun :D
Rocket boots : Has another monkey give him a boost (Think ice climbers, especcially there up + B in super smash bros)

Tim, the worlds coolest monkey, saw Jake swinging one day and thought it looked like fun. They instantly became friends.

Very agile at all times, but his small ize makes it hard(er) to collect coins and other goodies.

    Angel
Uses wings to fly. No hook involved.
A golden harp that shoots gold musical notes when played.
Rocket boot: Just gets a super fast speed boost for a small amount of time.
Jakes gaurdian angel one day came down from heaven when Jake was about to have a nasty accident. Sadly, the other angels shunned her for altering the world, and she was stuck on earth. Now she wanders around temples following Jake , although he cant see her.
Amazing flying powers in the air, but if she hits ground hyer flying stops and it takes her a second to start flying again.

    Raf
Uses trails of paint as a hook :D
Shotgun is: he launches a massive paint strike, wich covers the entire back half of the screen.
Rocket boots: Throws paint on the ground, wich bounces off and lifts him up.
Raf, a young painter, needed a bigger artistic challenge- so he decided to give the temples a nice new coat of paint. His trusty paint brush goes with him everywhere. The idols are just a bonus...He needs money for paint, right?
    Pretty average, close to Jake

    Tony
    No hook-flying is overrated.
Shotgun: runs super fast, leaving a stinging trail of dust. (And a speed boost! :D)
Rocket boots: Uses his muscular legs to make a super jump!
Tony, a very fast runner, was tired of racing the slow kids at school. Now, he challenges the much faster evil blob monster curse thingy!

    Shock
    Uses lightning bolts as hook
Shotgun: Just makes the screen flash really bright with electricity, blinds the creature thingy so it cant move
Rockets: Zaps himself in the air. Kinda like pikachu in Super smash Bros.
Shock was once a normal guy. Then, one day, he was struck by lightning. He was wearing his favorite ring, though, and it grounded most of the shock! Now his ring radiates with electricity, and can shoot it out at will.
Good in the air, but still average (About Jake's speed) on ground.

Another go. Part of me is trying to think of characters that fit in the "Hook Champ World." But at the same time, a cat with a rocket on it's back and a top hat told me a level was pretty much impossible. With that in mind, this game totally needs a viking!

    Name : Bjørn Guldchaser

Appearance : Standard Viking fare. Leather body armor, pelt cloak, long blond hair. *whistle* Wooden shield.

Story : He's a viking. He plunders. Unfortunately he's also sociophobic so about the only place he can plunder is abandoned tombs and caves.

Play : What's a viking without an axe? Bjørn is pretty posessive, and much like hip kids with their wallet chains- Bjørn has an axe chain. Being a bigger and armored dude means he moves a little slower, but his axe will travel straight through weak walls to swing him through. Ever find yourself up against a wall waiting for it to crumble? No more with Bjørn's axe in-hand!

Lava got you down? Bjørn can use his wooden shield one time as a platform and bound off it to save himself from firey doom. Perhaps can also be used to glide slightly to make up for his otherwise lumbering and heavy movements.

    Name: Rocko Rolla

Appearance: Black leathers, red bandana, studs, sunglasses - Carry's mic stand with microphone
Hook: The metal mic stand - he hold onto the mic and uses the cable to swing.
Additional weapon: The mic stand can also be used as an pic axe. And Heavy Metal Scream to cause cave ins and destroy everything on screen.

Story: Rocko loves everything 'Rock' and on his travels he heard about the origin of 'Rock and Roll' and discovered that it was called 'Rock' was because it all started with a sacred 'Rock' which when cracked unleashed a small amount of 'rock and roll influence' into the world. Feeling that music is dying he goes on a search for the Ancient Rock of Rock and finally unleash the power of rock back into the world!

    Behind you!
    name: Clint Westwood

appearance: a cowboy with a giant cowboy hat, a red bandanna, a cow skin vest blue button up shirt and and jeans.

    hook: a lasso and rope

story: a lone ranger, he wanders through the desert looking for adventure and fortune, until finally stumbling upon a large temple, which he proceeds to enter. At the entrance to the temple he runs into a man named Jake (and The Rookie and Alec, optional ;) ) who proceeds to explain his plan for fame and fortune. Clint, being a greedy soul, offers to "help" Jake find his treasure, but secretly plans to run off with it to trade it for a bigger hat! (may add a twist to the story involving betrayal and revenge)

attributes: instead of a shot gun, he has a pistol. Who needs a shotgun when you can shoot the tail off a rattlesnake at 50yd? his is quick with his gun and even quicker with his rope, when he throws his rope, it attaches almost immediately after being thrown, however, since it's only a lasso, his rope cannot attach to walls or the ceiling unless there are hooks or something to grab onto, so swinging can be a real challenge. But of course the builders of the temple left enough hooks for him to get through, just not easily! When he lands on the ground, he moves slowly at first because he is dying of thirst, but he whistles for his horse who then carries him fairly quickly for about 20sec and then proceeds to buck him off and run away. (this ability can only be used twice per level).

    name: Sir Macelot

appearance: a Knight with thick heavy armor, a shield, and a sword

hook: a mace, the metal in the chain was somehow alloyed with rubber allowing it to stretch an unusually long distance, for a mace that is!

story: Sir Macelot was once one of King Arthur's most beloved knights, until his younger brother showed up and ruined things for him. This former knight of the round table left the kingdom of Camelot in search of meaning and accomplishment, which he didn't find for a very long while. One day, he discovered an artifact near an ancient temple that resembled the artistic style of his own land, which of course made him curious. He proceeded into the temple with eagerness and curiosity, what he found made him lose enthusiasm, an adventurer (with a skeleton, an electrician and a cowboy, optional ;) ) who was already searching the temple. The only way for Sir Macelot to find what he was looking for was to join up with this poor excuse for a hero (and his raggedy gang, optional ;) )

abilities: His mace can be used like a regular hook because it's shard, pointy spines will stick into any wall, however, it is very heavy, so it takes a little bit longer to reach it's target, but upgrades make the metal lighter. He has a holy sword which he can use a limited number of times to fend of the ghost that follows him. Because of his armor, his is very heavy, so he swings rather slowly, however, he has the ability to swing back and forth on his...mace, to build of speed and momentum and then launch himself through the air for a massive distance. When he is on the ground, he moves somewhat slowly, but when it comes to downhill slopes, he has no problem surfing down them on his shield, and off course the momentum carries him rather far once he reaches the bottom.
