Nope. It's a solid vertical wall of lava which spans from the floor to the ceiling, immediately following a long stretch of very narrow tunnel with a floor and ceiling made of lava. It's... insane. And the one time I made it through the tunnel with hot pants intact I still died halfway through the wall. Must have not been going fast enough.
so... the level is impossible for gunny and hookbot? according to openfeint, kepa (rocketcat is kepa right?) said that they will be allowing hookbot immunity from lava and Green...stuff in the next update, but gunny is still screwed... (seems a bit broken.... I believe that someone told me "balance issues are fictional problems made up by whiny WoW players"... reeeaaallyyyyy?)
I just tried Silver Hat with Gunny, and the shotgun blast did not allow her to pass the wall of lava. So maybe that was a glitch for whoever did that. So you definitely need Jake and his hot pants.
broooookkeeeeeennnn!!!! anyone else think it isn't particularly fair? I know it's meant to be nearly impossible, but a level should never BE impossible
It's only one level. On the same token, the stone hat level is impossible to beat as anyone but Gunny, and the bronze is apparently impossible to get a perfect score with anyone but Hookbot. These are bonus levels made for the hardcore, they're allowed to bend the rules a bit. Yes, but by "unlock" they meant "make available for purchase." They still cost 3000 gold, but they aren't even in the store until you beat all the levels besides rat, skull and forbidden hats.
It's hardly impossible, you just have to use Jake, the same way you have to use Gunny (or Zelle I guess) for the stone hat level.
Exactly. The levels aren't impossible, but I believe they were designed for specific characters as has been mentioned. I may say that I absolutely love these hard levels. In fact, I wish they would make even harder ones. Yes, I'm a glutton for punishment. However, given the response to these new Hat levels, I don't expect to see any levels that are harder.
lol still on stone hat (had upgraded hookbot fully early in the game and didn't buy the shotguns) and while it's incredibly difficult, it's also the fastest way by far to get 70 coins Really makes you appreciate the fine controls that you can even think about passing such chaotic elements as this.
Back to the DLC debate, I'd happily throw a couple of dollars at another 4 or 8 super hard levels - as hard as the Hat levels, or worse. Maybe you get more fancy hats, or a new fancy hook if you complete them all. That way they're totally optional so casual players don't have to play them and won't get frustrated by them, and us hardcore devotees can indulge our sadistic love of insanely hard Hook Champing.
it IS possible with jake (apparently), and after update 3.5 hookbot will not have the ghost chasing it the bronze can at least be beaten with jake and gunny silver though, only jake can beat it... (and according to kepa, hookbot after update 3.5/4) what's gold like? I'm just saying, all levels should be able to be beaten by all characters, not just some... (maybe kepa could make the lava wall a reeeeeeally thick breakable wall surrounded by lava, like: LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL WWWWWWWWWWW WWWWWWWWWWW WWWWWWWWWWW WWWWWWWWWWW LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL L=Lava W=wall that way, it would be possible for gunny/zelle to complete the level as well) so what is the golden box like?
That's exactly what I was thinking about making the super-hard levels DLC. I would also gladly throw a couple of bucks at that. Oh, and I just beat the qpawn machine on the Bronze Hat level.
Nice job mike. Hope you enjoy your 50 minutes of fame before Kepa fires up qpawn and destroys your score by 60 points.
I wonder if qpawn ever sleeps... (also, I wonder if somebody could write a program to find the fastest, most efficient route possible for a fully maxed character? and then to see if a human could beat it (qpawn might...))
Haha, yeah! That reminds me of the movie: 2001 Space Odyssey. I can see it now - qpawn is a machine in Kepa's basement. Kepa is heading downstairs to awaken qpawn for another thorough Hook Champ whoopin'.
That's what got me thinking that qpawn is a simulation of some sort. If it could track our times, maybe by breaking a level down into intervals, and then it could compute the fastest times we put up for each interval to get at an overall "best" time and score for a level. Who knows.
I was thinking more of a "Dijkstra's algorithm" with momentum and angles taken into account, just from the beginning to the end of a level in a way that gets all of the coins and in the fastest time possible, that would be the upper limit of the score, the theoretical highest a human could manage without hacks, and pixel perfect timing. if qpawn is a bot, it most likely uses this method, then takes into account the best score, much like: dfvdvtbsdczfg5ywfgsd -human player, random, inefficient compared to upper limit ............................. -upper limit, efficient, nearly impossible to do at the start, qpawn uses mostly human play to get around with a few improvements: dgeve..hevgh.rgevedfy.fg4t later, it is more balanced, this is what was happening when we first noticed qpawn: erehegd.....erherh...rhefd..y.je. now we are at the point where qpawn is seeing very little variation between the upper limit and the human version: ....gsf........r.....dty.....te... it simply uses the upper limit to make it's time ever so slightly better each time, (god knows what it would do if a human REACHED the upper limit) that is what I believe is happening: a human best run augmented slightly with a theoretical upper limit, this way, it gives us incentive to beat our previous scores, whilst not overpowering us with 1000 point differences, it is just altering your best run with a slightly more efficient way
