That's fine. We're going to try to make the DLC nice and fun to have, but not essential. It's mostly a way for fans to just throw extra money at us, which mostly goes towards us getting out the next game faster. If Hookbot does well as a 99c DLC, we'll do at least one more 99c DLC character and maybe some sort of cosmetic pack after that. Any new levels or other major feature for Hook Champ will always be free. (We consider a minimum amount of hats per update to qualify as an "other major feature".)
Kepa, I have to say I will buy every last DLC element offered I was lucky enough to get a promotional copy of Hook Champ and have been blown away by what a value the game is. In short, the game is a fantastic, fun, retro-blast get it!
Would have posted sooner, but I've been hook champin' with a robot. I'm liking everything about this update: customized ropes and hooks, badass new hats and winter gear theme, and even the new pre-race robot-centric dialogue. Sammich Bot, indeed. Also, the backgrounds look enhanced on some of the levels and Jake seems to have facial expressions now. I think. Awesome stuff, Kepa.
Just bought the DLC to support this. I think think Hook Champ is my favorite iPhone game yet, followed closely, or neck and neck with the geoDefense games. I hope your next game 'hooks' me as much. (ha! see what I did there?!) But really, great game, I've recommended it to everyone I can. Love the game and the add-ons.
I got the first geoDefense and loved it, too. We're juuuuust starting to work on our next game. We want to get a third update out for Hook Champ before we start in earnest on NEW GAME, though. Hey yeah, it's next update teaser time. Update 3 features that we're working on: 1. New level set! The theme: Outer Space. The gameplay gimmick: Brutal Difficulty. Three levels of you dying, then one level of us expressing our condolences for your dying so much. 2. Best ghost run is saved, even if you have ghosts temporarily turned off! 3. Huge revamp to the challenge system, in which it becomes both back-and-forth and lives based. We think that the result will be so good that it will become the gold standard. 4. Lite update, so it will fully support OpenFeint and ghost races and so on. The amount of challenges you can do for free will be limited, but otherwise you'll get to experience all the fancy Feint features in the lite. 5. Revamp to how the rope upgrades work. In short, the beginning rope will be much longer and the final rope will be about the same. This is to help with the learning curve for completely new players. 6. New DLC character, if the first DLC character was well-received. 7. New hats for all old and new characters. 8. OpenFeint 2.4! 9. Various new feature requests from this forum, blog comments, and the app store reviews. I'm sure I'm missing some things in the above list, but there you go.
sweeet.. haven't bought the DLC yet but this is definitely the game i've been playing most since I bought it
I'm still trying to pass the game to unlock Ginny. Although i must admit i haven't played in a while. DLC is enticing to come back though
Good. This is a steal at $2.99. I'm glad a dev is finally gonna stick to a price! EDIT: And for those of you complaining about the DLC new character, if you dont like it dont buy it. also it's awesome because there's no ghost thingy chasing you if you use it.
They can't, it's a limit of the current engine they use. It was an unforseen complication that they didn't realize til they tried to do it. Sooooo, best chance for an endless mode is a seperate app (which I would totally buy). I think if you combined a level construction game with the ability of an endless mode you've damn near created an entire new game. The original HC can be for new levels and characters, the other app straight up user levels and challenges. Build in an awesome rating system that weeds out the crappy levels and you're in business. Sorry, just dreaming out loud Kepa the next update sounds fantastic. A space themed level sounds especially interesting. Do you play around with the gravity or anything? That would really throw a wrench in things Really, thank you for so much already, can't wait for more.
Nice job. Do the OF scoreboards refresh weekly, or is it just the regular scoreboards? I'd still like to know who's the overall, all-time, undeniable champion on each level (if that isn't the case already). I always mess up at least one swing in that corridor at the end of Gold Bull and end up touching the floor or slowing down, so I know my score can be beaten. Not sure if Gunny or Jake is the character to do it with though. Stone Bull is easy to me, I'd love to see your Silver Bull runs though as I'm struggling to improve on that one. The competitive aspect has really extended this game's life for me. Edit: woot, update! Will be purchasing the DLC as soon as it's done updating.
I was trying to express my disbelief at your comment. You really don't like the graphics? I love them because I grew up playing pixellated games on my Amiga, and Hook Champ evokes memories of my long-gone youth To each his own, I guess.
