Originally the Challenges were designed around just getting one challenge attempt, on both sides. What do you mean you work for 30 minutes to make a perfect challenge? We're going to do some tweaks to the challenges in update 2. So Derek and Yohanetsu and others: Let me know what you'd like to see. I guess we could put in a RETRY button, and then simply keep track of how many attempts it took for the challengee to beat the score, whether they eventually beat the score or simply hit a GIVE UP button. On our list so far: A quick Rechallenge your Challenger button, or possibly a Rechallenge with your New Ghost button if you beat their challenge. If someone beats my score, I pretty much stay beaten. My score on the boards is more or less accidental, because I don't have tons of time to play the game. I'm usually working on some map that no one's even seen yet. Oh, maybe. I kind of regret putting pro controls in at all. Pro controls are simply the controls that the game had in early beta, so by late beta we were used to those controls as the developers. Casual controls totally grew on me, though; I probably wouldn't put Pro Controls in given a second chance. The more I make updates/play Hook Champ, the more things I would do different if I had to do it over. One big thing: Definitely do music for all the levels. I didn't think ahead far enough about the size budget of the game, so we pretty much can't now.
I'm feeling very happy about our update being approved so I decided to do some fan art for one of my favourite iPhone games: This gif animation shows the process, the first image is the original screenshot:
I mean I have to work cause I want my challenge to be as perfect as I can make it. So if I screw up abit on the way I usually start over. That would do, donkey. This would be awesome. A simple retry button so that you can keep working that challenge over and over until you beat it.
Here's one suggestion how challenge mode could be implemented: When someone challenges another player, the other player will immediately be notified about it, even before the challenger has even played the level he chose. The challenger has then 3 tries to set his time (if he failed to finish, then how far he got). After that the challengee has 3 tries to beat the challenger. There could be some kind of time limit, for example 24 hours after the challenger set his time, for the challengee to use his 3 attempts. Otherwise the challengee could just practice the level for as long as he needs to and then beat the challenger's time. The challenge mode could for example be Best of 3, or something like that. So who ever were better in the first round, gets one point. After that the challengee would select the next level and he would then have 3 tries to set his time and so on and so forth. The first one to reach the score limit will be winner. Then mix a skill system to that, automatic match making, leaderboards... And other such fun - and easy to implement - stuff.
While we're at it, what about silver bull? I have #1 local scores on almost every level but can't seem to find the loot in this level. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Grats on the #1 time! I think you're referring to Stone Wimpy? Not to dampen your achievement, but I believe I still hold the overall record by .01 sec (36.77). It wasn't recorded to the global board because I was off wifi. Regardless, we should race sometime. EDIT: Someone else (qpawn) had a higher score on the feint boards. I just tied him with a 36.55 run. Sorry kep! I can do better though, as I bumped the wall on the first big drop, doh. Oh, and my ghost updated upon beating this.
There are 3 gems to be had in Silver Bull. Check the lava around the 37% level complete mark for two beneath the crumbling blocks. And the third is around 55% level complete. When you enter what I think looks to be a hallway, crash through the crumbling blocks after all of the hanging skulls. I hope that helps you out.
Wow, that's great! We're drawing up plans for something like this. Basically a system where it's lives based. Both Challenger and Challengee get 5 lives (completely arbitrary number). When you beat the other person's time, they have to retry until they beat your time. Once they beat your time, you have retry until you beat theirs again. This continues until you run out of lives, which deplete each time you use up a retry. We'd also make forfeits from the initial challenger impossible, because that's kind of a lame system. Cancelling a challenge for the same level over and over to try to make an unbeatable time right out the gate just leads to games that are anticlimactic. We'd rather have a little bit of a back and forth. I won't have too much time for challenges for awhile, but send me one and I'll get to it eventually. I'm not really too intent on hanging onto my high scores. For one thing, I made a couple of slight mistakes on Stone Wimpy, so it's not quite a perfect time anyway.
Sounds crappy to me. Why not let people play the game as they want to. The "retry"-button idea for a challenge was awesome. That unbeatableproblem is only a problem for like 5 in the world that constantly beats global no 1? I want to make, and recieve, the best challanges I can get/make. And the be able to try that challenge until I beat it or see my friends twist in agony as they try and beat my ghost. "Oh, ****, only one more try and then I have to go to bed". And bam, hit that retry once again. Just like I do now in singelplayer. The challengesystem now is just one try and then waiting for a new challenge.
Btw, I am far from awesome but if someone wants to send some challenges my way I would be happy. I got the same nick on Openfeint. Cheers!
One feature I think may be interesting would be a level complete indicator or even a level minimap. Just something to give people an idea of when they're about 50 or 60% of thr way through. Slipped to #3 on the grand total scores D:
A bit of spam now but how about this idea. I send off a challenge. My friend doesnt beat it first try but hits RETRY and takes a new shot at beating it. This time he wins and my challenge is beaten. When I boot up my game I get a message that my challenge is beaten and at the same time I get an automatic rechallenge with the ghost from my friends run. I can RETRY until I beat it and then my friend gets an automatic rechallenge from my ghostrun. That way the "challenge" automaticly gets harder without having to "work for that first perfect challenge" and you can RETRY as much as you want.
