Now I'm seeing strange ghost behavior like justbanter. I just raced my ghost on Golden Bull, and beat the ghost by enough that it wasn't even on the screen behind me, yet when I finished it said I had the #2 local score. I don't think I had the same sequence of events happen to me as justbanter, so I can't really say what I did. I thought I had the ghost on the whole time I was playing Golden Bull. Sorry for the lack of details.
Just beat the top local scores on the Rat levels. Vying for global scoreboard supremacy doesn't really appeal to me, so my playing time 'til the next update is probably going to be limited. Either way it was a very good update, Kepa & company. I had bunches and bunches of fun beating the Rat levels. Among other things, I finally found myself having to shotgun the chaser off of my back, which was never really a problem in the other levels.
Always interested in bug reports. Ghosts seemed pretty bug-free in beta, but it's possible we missed something. Also heads up: Here's what we're going for so far, with the 1 dollar paid-DLC extra character: Tired of dying horribly to ghosts and lava and whatnot? Buy your very own steam-powered HOOKBOT! Functions include: - Made out of metal and other not-edible-at-all substances! - Regenerating vertical thrusters for maximum exploration! - Steel-alloy neck and head lets it use hats far too dangerous for humans! - Horizontal thrust items torn out to make room for Hat-Fashion subcomputer. - Winterization alternate look, complete with snow treads! - Will not rise up against its masters or humanity in general. Tomorrow: Example sprites.
We do try to design the game for tons of replay value. The new level set should address people that don't get a lot of value from the social-based replay stuff. In the first beta for the game, the chaser was constantly on you. I'm not sure if anyone here was around for early beta or not, but every single level past Wimpy was pretty much like the Rat level. It was a whole different game in terms of difficulty.
Great update, Kepa! I just finished the Golden Rat level using Gunny; the extra shotgun blast is quite reassuring when that fast ghost is right on your tail. I love the addition of the lap ghost to gauge your progress and see which sections you can improve your time on. I will definitely shell out the dollar for the invincible Hookbot since Golden Skull remains the bane of my Hook Champ existence. Quick update: after approximately my 2000th attempt, I beat Golden Skull! Finally reaching the pinnacle of Hook Champ accomplishments is extremely satisfying.
Awesome job on the update, Kepa! I've noticed that in the OpenFeint achievements, my local #1 scores--about 20 or so--haven't been registering. I went back and set new #1s to make sure, but it still shows that I haven't unlocked any of the local celebrity achievements. Have you run into this before, or is it just me? Any help/info is appreciated. Can't wait for Hookbot and everything else. Keep up the good work. Also, someone challenge me! OpenFeint handle is 'Guise'
Awesome update kepa+co loving the achievement system already beat the rat levels but nowhere near getting #1 local scores for them xD in the middle of trying for global total scores...no. 15 ATM anyways, typing this out on my iPhone so back to the game also, anyone wanna add me, my OF name is MenaceInc surprising,eh?
I have just taken the high score on Bronze Monkey, by ONE POINT. I know I can do better though, so keep watching. I find that level much more difficult than either of the Bull levels I have the scores on, so I'm going to spend some time with it and see what's possible. If only we could send our ghosts to others without having to initiate a challenge. Update 2, perhaps? EDIT: Just got 5138 but the wifi was disconnected. Oh well, next time!
If someone challenges you, and you beat them, you get the pimp hat. misterkenny, congrats on Bronze Monkey. Gonna have to take a look at that level, I haven't really tried speed runs on them yet apart from Silver.
zoo: it's tremendously complicated compared to the "memorize three or four jump spots" bull levels. If you'd like, I can send you a challenge to show you what I've sorted out so far. Good luck, I hope to see you in the top spot soon so that I can try harder!
Finally beaten the last Bull level It took 50+ tries but I did it.. That was really tough. Gunny is only 10 coins Now on to Rat and Skull levels..
Regarding the Local Celebrity achievements... it SHOULD be retroactive when you earn a new top local score over an actual developer score; in other words, if you've already beat all the developer scores from Wimpy to Skull, once you beat a Rat developer score the first time, it should add up all previous top wins and (perhaps) give you Bronze, Silver, and Gold Local Celebrity simultaneously. If you beat a rat level dev score and it didn't award you the achievements, let me know and I'll look into it a little more closely.
It looks like Nappy took back all of his top spots on the Monkey levels. I'm a bit surprised that he got all of those high scores at once -- as I had a good score on Stone Monkey when I went to bed last night, zoo had a good score on Silver Monkey, and you got the top spot on Bronze. I'm also surprised that he was able to beat me by so much on Stone, as I thought I had a really solid run and time. That would be cool if we could just pass ghost runs around, as I would like to see how others play the various levels.
I love the fact that Nappy reclaimed ALL his top spots on Monkey. I'm going to have another go at Silver just to see how beatable his score is. It would be good to select a ghost run and send it to an OF friend like you said, when the pressure's on during a challenge you don't always have a great run. Devs, any chance we can have an option to rotate the screen with the next update? My hand covers the speaker when I'm playing and blocks out the sound.
Nappy is a trooper on the Monkey levels. Unfortunately for him, I just took back the #1 spot on Stone Monkey by 0.05 of a second and one point. And that wasn't the best run I could do with the new way I'm running that level. It is amazing how you can change one spot where you do (or don't) do something, and I was able to go from a time of 46.48 to 46.22. Now I need to spend some more time on the other Monkey levels. I have a really hard time on Silver -- that first slot you have to drop down after getting the first row of coins always gets me. I haven't figured out the optimal way through that. EDIT: make that a 46.17 on Stone Monkey.
We were thinking about doing the above but decided against it for making it just a little harder for an elite cabal to take over the highscores. I mean, moreso than what the scoreboards are already. The second is actually a feature we had to cut for time. It's definitely going in, though. At some unspecified point this week, we're going to start resetting the non-Feint scores weekly, so they'll be weekly scores. Whoever is at the top of each scoreboard the first time we do this will be immortalized. That is, whenever the scores are cleared every week, the "immortalized" scores and names will be used as the SCORE TO BEAT on the blank scoreboard. We'll reduce each score by about 10% so this is actually possible to do. This should make the crown/achievement more possible to get, but still pretty difficult.
Lovin' the game. Is it possible to see the results of the challenge you sent someone after they have completed it? I know you can look in OF for the overall results, but it would be great to see what the person did on specific races. It's great making them, but then you feel kinda used when you don't hear anything back. And will it only be the top score on each level that will stand the test of time, or all of them reduced waiting to be beat? You know, 1-20.
We completely feel the same way. We're going to do address this a couple different ways in Update 2. The top score only.
