Nice job on Silver Monkey. I should move back to those levels, as I really need a break fro the Bull levels. I look forward to those new Rat levels. Feel free to send me a challenge anytime, though I imagine you will make short work of me.
I can't even seem to reproduce my best run on Silver Monkey. But I was able to beat out Nappy for the number one spot on Stone Monkey, by 0.01 of a second and 1 point on my total score. Nappy, you have some work ahead of you. I think there is still room for improvement on Stone Monkey, but at least I feel like I had a pretty good run on it, so maybe my score will stand for a day... Maybe...
Right now the hat just gets unlocked if you win a challenge that was sent to you. I'll need to check my usual scores for Golden Bull, it's possible I was just clearing older beta challenges and deleted yours by mistake. If you get a crown in beta, I don't think it transfers over to the full game. Lawyers just shaking their head at us, holding up briefcases and tapping on them. We'll post some art with the new character next week, and information on the new character, for public approval. Right now we're just waiting for the update and working on update 2.
I know my Bull times are both beatable, but I spent quite a bit of time getting them, so expect to spend quite a bit of time beating them Good luck though. If they are beaten, I'll spend another week trying out new tricks. I can't WAIT for the update to come out, having a ghost there would definitely showcase possible improvements.
The ghost of your personal best time PLUS the ability to quick retry a level in the pause menu PLUS the new character that can get twice the shotgun shots PLUS the new Jake item for lava levels letting him free up an extra rocket jump should all add up to really shake up the scoreboards. Oh, also, they'll be new OpenFeint scoreboards for stuff like Best Bull Score (all bull levels combined) and Best Score (every single level combined). They'll also be friends-only scoreboards via OF, a scoreboard for most coins hoarded, the ghost-racing challenges... in short, they'll be a bunch of new ways to compete with others. Oh, I should probably mention this: I believe as soon as update 1 hits, we're going to take whoever has the #1 scores for each level globally right now and immortalize them. Since the global (non-OpenFeint) scores will be weekly now, we need #1 placeholders for when the week changes. This is so someone can't just wait until, say, Sunday midnight, then quickly get a score of 100 points on a level to get a crown. As such, everyone who's at #1 globally when the update hits will become that #1 score to beat when the scores are reset weekly (though we'll reduce the scores by 10% or so, so people can actually beat them). We might try to add some sort of reward for this on top of that, but probably not. Being placed automatically at the top of the weekly scoreboard when it resets should be enough.
Hi, does anyone else have this problem, when playing with wifi on, the game lags/freezes and then come back to normal. This messed me up, my #5 score on stone wimpy should have been higher
It's a stutter due to the scores being sent, especially if you're retrying a level as fast as possible. Update 1 (the one we submitted) includes some things to streamline this, particularly a button that lets you quick-retry a level without having to hammer the scoreboard by going back to the map screen.
Cant wait for the update, i got #1 on stone wimpy a while ago. Are you going to make the weekly crowns different from the all time ones?
That's good to hear, because that stutter has been driving me crazy when I do quick restarts. I really can't wait for the update now.
The current gold crowns will become the "weekly" ones. I think in update 2 (maaaybe 3) we're going to put a new, even fancier crown for the all-time best scores ever. By that time, the best scores ever will probably really be the best scores, ever. Also on the plate: Super expensive hats that have particle/cosmetic effects. Example would be a version of the miner's cap whose light actually works. Also: More hats every single update.
So Kepa, are the scoreboards staying as they are now in the beta, with Jake and Gunny's times mixed together? I'm going to have to try to get as many #1 scores as possible before the update lands, I like the sound of being immortalized, even if it is in the form of Hook Champ scoreboards. All the new OpenFeint scoreboards are great. It's a shame they can't be integrated better into the graphical style of the game, though - the slick graphics clash somewhat with the old school pixel style of the game itself. Also, does the timer end when your grappling hook hits Gunny/Jake? Or when they exit the cave together? One more question - scratch that. I found the missing gems on Golden Skull, no idea how to actually get them though. Something to keep me occupied until the update is out. I'm spending far, far too much time on this game.
Unless Golden Skull has changed with the update, you must release your grapple, fall, and use your rocket boots before you hit lava (I assume the hot pants would work too) to boost you back up, hopefully having collected all the jewels, or at least dragging them in your wake. This makes high score runs on this level in the current version of the game very difficult, since three rocket boot uses are required to even finish the level; a fourth means there is literally no room for error.
Following on from this section there are 2 more gems high up in the big pile of destructable blocks you have to shotgun blast through. Not sure how to get up to them without a rocket boot jump.
Jake and Gunny's scoreboards are mixed. Same with any other character we put in. We're hoping to either balance the characters fairly well or make sure Jake or Gunny are generally the best choices for each level. In this update that should be released soon, Gunny does seem generally better for speed run purposes, but we'll buff Jake if he falls too far behind. We made OpenFeint mesh with the game's style as much as we could. It seems pretty good, except we couldn't pixellate the leaderboards. We actually might be able to later, but we're happy with it for now. I believe the timer ends when your hook hits Gunny/Jake. I'm not sure. Either way it probably doesn't matter, since the cave exit always takes the same amount of time.
Gah! Sorry; I've only even *seen* the level exit about four or five times, exactly as many times as I needed to get the top local time, and no longer!
You need the rocket boots to do that, but you can save one by climbing up the one chute instead of using the rocket boots.
