WOW. Being able to use a cheesehead has brought this game from "most amazing ever" to "most amazing ever with most amazing hat collection." Nice work!
OpenFeint is one of the things put in the first update, which will be submitted this weekend. Achievements, leaderboards, challenges, and most likely ghost races are included.
Update: Ghost-races are definitely, 100% in now for the submission of first update. One thing we're considering: Delaying the first update by half a week or so. (Pause for loud booing noises) The reason: With the ghosts working fine for two player racing, we could put in the same functionality for single player. I remember getting requests for a "race a ghost of your best time" feature. With ghosts programmed in and working fine right now, we could take some extra time and make it so you can also race ghosts of your personal best time. Two player ghost races are pretty awesome, by the way.
I haven't been active in this thread yet, but I've had the game for a few weeks and I love it to death! Some of you guys are insane with this game with your scores and everything. But there's just something about this game that urges you to try over and over. I haven't personally played any levels for 12 hours straight, but I totally understand that. I've got the 5th high score on Stone Wimpy (woot?) but can't even approach some of the other high scores. But I know I'll have a blast trying! I really can't wait for everything that's coming in the updates, especially the restart option. I love this game, thank you devs!!
I'd be willing to wait a week for that completely excellent new feature. I'm just going to sit here and bite my nails while I wait.
If we do decide to delay it by a few days for single-player best time ghost racing, I'll see if I can put in some sort of apology-hat.
I am hesitant to spend $3 on this game. Usually I never spend over a $1 for games that aren't Disney (I buy all the Disney games, they never let me down).
Will we be able to race ghosts of other people's times, or just our own? I need to see the ghosts of the number 1 times for Silver and Gold Bull to see what I'm doing wrong.
We're going to submit the game Wednesday now. Here's what we're going to add in exchange for this delay. 1. A second challenge mode: Speed Race. No loot in this mode, so the goal is just to race through the levels at full speeds against your opponent. 2. Extra hat or two. 3. Improving the ghosts and making sure they're bug free. 4. A scoreboard for Richest Players (most coins) All of the above things were features we weren't going to do until update 2, previously. Your call! There's a lite version, though. Lets you play the first 8 levels and mess around with buying upgrades in the shop. I recommend playing the lite version and getting your rope and hook upgraded to level 1 or 2, then deciding whether you want the full version from there. You'll be able to race both the ghost of your best time for each level, and the ghost of any player that sends you a challenge. I'll think about adding an option to race the number 1 time on the current weekly scoreboard for update 2... there's one con to that idea, though: It gives away that player's secrets. I thought it was kind of lame to see the playbacks of other players in that one tower defense game where you defended sheep from aliens.
That's true - I guess part of the fun of trying to get the best score is figuring out by yourself where best to use your items, etc. The challenge idea sounds great, though.
Relieved to hear that you are keeping "ghosts" of high score runs private unless the runner specifically challenges another. In the current game levels, I've noticed that the objectively quickest path tends to be the one with greatest loot potential as well, to the extent that you can usually tell when you're on the "goat" path by the conspicuous absence thereof. Thus, most of the drama of a current high score run involves elaborations on these paths - where one uses the rocket boots or shot gun, for example. If you choose to introduce levels of greater complexity in your future updates, with loot split between two or more separate paths that the player could switch between at points via rocket shoes or careful grappling, the manner in which the player makes those switches, and perhaps backtracks at times to find loot that might otherwise have been missed, would significantly increase the value of maintaining secrecy, however. Indeed, the prospect sort of reminds me of the Show Off mode in the SSX games, where the route one chose to take on the more difficult levels was more than half the battle. Developers would still have access to advanced information about these runs to diagnose hacks or exploits for future updates, right? EDIT: Also, I just beat the final Local Score, on the Golden Skull, and got the Fiesta Hat... so bring on gunny and the rat levels; I'm gonna own 'em!
Yeah, I was just looking for opinions, even though I didn't say it. Thought it was implied, but it does look weird, sorry about that. I had no idea there was a lite version, I must have missed its release, nad was too lazy to look for it. Thanks, i'll download that =).
