Yeah, the scores don't ever retry uploading. A quick workaround is to check the global scores before every run, because the wifi times out after a few minutes.
zoo: Not by stoping it, but if they allowed unsubmitted scores to be submitted, someone could edit the value (via ssh on a JB device) and then upload a crazy score (like seen in doodle jump). Doodle Jump is really easy to cheat on... extremely.
I'm itching for this update. All I have left to get now is the Crown, and looking at some of the number 1 scores that's pretty unlikely. Are some of the new items going to be insanely expensive? Since anyone who's completed every level and tried to beat times etc. is going to have thousands of coins. Edit: having said that, I just got #2 global score on Golden Bull. Does 'kig' post on here? If so I'd love to know how he shaves 1.5 seconds off my time.
I'm talking with touchArcade now about giving them first dibs for the first update video. This video will (SPOILERS) have a lot of bits from the new level set, that we haven't even talked about yet. We're actually pretty close to submitting this big first update. I think we might end up increasing the cost of the items that will be in the first update. Right now they're in the 300 coin range if hats, up to 1600 for the new items. "kig", for example, has about 28,000 coins now. Either that, or we'll have to come up with some repeatable money sinks. Or hell, maybe just a scoreboard for MOST COINS COLLECTED. I frequent the same IRC channel kig does. His secret to success: Replaying the tougher levels for about 12 hours now. That also explains his coin count.
Sounds good. We need something to spend those hard earned coins on. The 'most coins collected' could be tied in with my pointless statistics idea previously posted Wow.. my commitment to this game unfortunately doesn't extend to playing a level for 12 hours. I'm quite pleased to be 2nd place to that after only an hour or so on Golden Bull.
Yeah I have no idea what's up with that. Also, using the beta email list would probably be more helpful to fixing that.
Nobody should get discouraged about getting the crown, there are still some times that are completely possible to beat. It just requires a nearly-flawless run. If you run a level for hours and hours, like kig and I do, you'll learn the layout of the level completely and can focus on time-shaving tactics, like exactly when to use the shotgun/rocket boots. I KNOW that the Stone Bull time is beatable, I just haven't memorized it in-and-out like Silver Bull: And I know that even THAT time is beatable, though it's becoming difficult for me to get close to it reliably. Maybe I will put up a Silver Bull 9700+ Point Tutorial Video one of these days!
Tutorial/speedrun boasting videos would be great! Even if you know the levels inside and out, there's still some variation in the times. There are theoretical maximum scores/perfect times, but that requires you to not make a single mistake ever. I believe you'd even have to make sure every normal swing was the most efficient possible. In a two minute level, people are bound to at least make one non-efficient swing, if not a mistake. There are other things that make an "unbeatable, perfect, eternal score" unlikely. One is that we'll patch the game as often as we can, and that will introduce new items and characters. Gunny should be pretty interesting to speed runners: She gets two extra shotgun shots, but doesn't get the new safety item Jake is getting. Exclusive video, screenshots, and info on the two features I haven't even talked about yet were just sent to touchArcade.
We came up with an incredible idea in regards to a use for huge amounts of coins. This idea won't be put in until Update 2, though. It's definitely going in.
I know this was mentioned before, but are ghosts of the best times a possibility? Or at least an option to record video of your best runs? Kepa, do you have scores that aren't on the scoreboards that are insanely good? Or any of the other devs?
I do. Or at least I did. Most of my high scores are beaten at this point. My highest scores are actual the #1 local scores, except we reduced the scores by about 30% as I recall. You can figure out my best scores in beta that way, or you can just look at my times in the developer scores and assume I got all the loot for that level on top of that time. Ghost races are pretty much guaranteed for update 2 in some form, barring some catastrophe.
