So I just got the Golden Skull, and I am ranked number 2 in the world (for now). Some tips: 1. Use the first rocket boost after the low, thin column with 4 skulls (there is a chain of coins that makes it pretty obvious) . 2. After the low, wide columns, there is a tall breakable wall, 2 bricks thick. hook the wall to get the momentum to break through to the other side. 3. After the section with the thin, low to high columns that start out clumped together, there is a chimney that you have to rocket boost up. 4. Towards the end, after 2 sets of 4 hanging skulls, there is a very long gap. If you wait till you are about to hit the magma after the first jump, then use a rocket boost, you can grab 5 jewels. 5. Save both shotgun blasts for the last, thick, breakable wall section. 6. Just keep trying till you get it. Hope this helps.
@Hodapp, did you let yourself die before finishing Just wondering. Just kidding. It happened to me too.
No I've been trying to beat this dumb lava level for about 2 days now, twice now I've been in sight of the ending and just haven't been able to swing up to the girl to get me out of the damn cave.
In Stone Bull, I think you can just walk right under the girl, if you have to, then jump straight up. I dimly recall that how far away you latch onto her is also based on your rope rank, if that helps. If all else fails, there's always rocketboots. They were made by a dwarf.
I'm usually a reader, not a poster, but I couldn't resist bragging about my ultimate victory. I finally completed the Golden Skull map, woohoo! On a side note, I actually had to beat the level twice. The first time I completed the level, I wasn't connected to the internet (I have an iPod Touch 2G). Even after connecting to the internet and downloading/uploading the global scores, my first completion of the map didn't seem to count (I was ranked #17 or something for my previous 77% completion of the map). As such, I just had to beat the map again, this time connected to the internet.
I want that hat/mask... let me guess, you have to beat the gold skull? I just unlocked the skull map and beat the stone one first try. pretty challenging in itself. heh.
Yeah, the skull cap is from beating the Gold Skull level. On the bright side, once you beat that level, the new cap only costs 1g! That's certainly much cheaper than the crown, which costs 300g. Of course, at this point, money isn't a big issue.
Finished playing this today (now up to the challenge levels). Easily my favorite iPhone game. Absolutely amazing, great job! On the topic of difficulty, I found the last levels quite hard, but justifiably so. The item to save you from the magma would be a good addition, but otherwise I would keep it the way it is at the moment. Any thoughts on making any other iPhone games?
Great tips, brentwomble! I've made it up to section 3 of your walkthrough, I'm just finding the timing for the columns that are clumped together very challenging. My guy gets too much air, hits the column, loses all momentum and plummets to his death. Keeping forward momentum while making very quick hooks is my biggest problem. I've been switching to Soosiz every once in a while as a relaxing break from Gold Skull insanity but the water world is almost as frustratingly difficult.
While doing repeated speed run attempts I've run into a minor problem. If you quit a level, then select the level again then choose to "Go" before the Global Scores have loaded you will often get some lag in the beginning of the level, apparently as the Global Scores finish downloading. This can mess up the start of your run. As a workaround I always wait until the scores load, which can sometimes take a little bit. I think this could be avoided with a "Retry" option in the pause menu, as it doesn't happen when retrying after a death.
This game has one of the most frustrating final levels but that made it so much more satisfying once I finally beat it. Thoroughly enjoyed the entire game. smikeg21
Thought I saw somewhere earlier in this thread that Kepa said they'd fix that in a future update! Yeah there's a fine balance between frustration to the point of quitting, and frustration being channeled into motivation. Hook Champ balances it well!
cool...i thought i remembered seeing someone else mentioning the problem, but did not recall kepa saying anything about fixing it...good to know thanks
Some suggestions (Copied from Character Suggestion thread) 1. Temple with some moving platforms, not overdone. 2. Space- Less gravity, or no gravity at all. There could be blackholes and when Jake hooks onto something he travels around it in a circle (Unless hit by an obstacle) 3. Some kind of powerup- speed boost, less gravity. 4. Double Grapple- Can use one in each hand. 5. Some more running obstacles, maybe a button to actually jump. 6. Mine cars on tracks that fly off and you have to jump out then hook onto a ceiling. 7. Ice temple- Jake slides around 8. Cavern Collapse- The cavern is collapsing, falling ceiling and rocks, etc. 9. Hats that increase a certain ability. 10. If possible, a cooperative multiplayer that forces players to latch onto another in order to get past parts. Or just racing. 11. Wind temple, it's windy and has wind shooting up in some parts, down in others, and against and benhind him in other parts too. 12. Backwards temple- swing from right to left (to mix things up) 13. Temple escape + escaping from a dense forest. It would have tree tops and you could land in the canopy. 14. Pyramid escape- it would have passages like slides and hidden switches. I just thought of these, I have many more ideas that I could come up with. I love this game and I'm sad that I beat it. The worst part about the game is when you realize you beat it (You can quote me on that). I'd love to see this game continue to entertain me.
Yes, but it's a secret. Regardless, we're going to be spending time with Hook Champ updates first. Very impressive updates. Those are also a secret (for now), except for what bugfixes we're doing. Yeah, we're actually fixing this in two different ways. Maybe three. Yeah, woops. We're fixing this. It was an oversight, we figured people would just disable sounds in the settings menu. I saw your post when it was in a totally inappropriate thread! My favorite ideas in the above list are probably 7, 8, 11, and 13.
grrrr darn it.. another great game which i underestimated and missed the sale.. might buy it.. probably after i finish soosiz
