Or get a dev license, learn how to code and get to build these on your own https://github.com/jasarien/Provenance
Ok I would have to agree with everyone that said that going to iemulators website and getting Provenance is the way to go here. This program is just a weak ripoff of Provenance and I doubt you'll ever see any update! Sure, Prov costs 10 dollars,, but it's way better and they update it all of the time. I'm using it now on my non jailbroken iPhone and this is the way better option. Much better menu for selecting roms if you have a ton like me. Supports mFi controllers. And It adds most of the images for you, and is much easier to add custom pictures if it can't find a match.
Speaking of Provenance.. Since I'm still on iOS 8.1, I added roms using iexlorer, by dragging them into Provenance's Documents folder. But if I was on 8.3, how would I add roms? Someone in this thread earlier said that you can use iTunes to add roms.. But I couldn't figure out how. Any tips?
I just save the file to Dropbox and then choose "open in..." and choose Provenance. Once you open it in Provenance it will be saved there. It's super easy. You can also do the same thing directly from the website if it doesn't have a save to Dropbox button. Click to download the file and then when you are looking at the downloaded zip file, click on "open in..." and choose Provenance. No computer needed.
Thank you, I do understand how to get roms directly through provenance,,, but what if you already have a ton of roms on your computer and want to copy them over? Is iTunes possible or is this even possible on 8.3?
Yes, you can use iTunes file share. After you choose your device in iTunes, choose apps and then scroll down to the bottom. You can then choose Provenance and add the files. You can't do this with all apps. Homebrew doesn't work this way but Provenance and all the other emulators on builds.io do. I'm on 8.3 and it works fine.
The huge difference here being that a developer account will set you back $99 and a buildstore license will only cost $9.99. I think I know which one I would go for.
agree with you at 90%... but there's an essential point that no one here takes into consideration... Provenance and all the other emus from iemulators, buildstore, etc are essentially "fake" apps, you don't have nothing... you are always thinking about the certificate expiration, 'cause if devs shouldn't renew it... bye bye roms, it turns useless... in a few words, as i mentioned before, you don't have nothing of your own!!! not to mention the boring "date trick" thing, which breaking balls always if you don't turn off or reset the device!!! i prefer by far a purchased .ipa with support for local files (not only DropBox based like Remote Files), like Floppy Cloud, PowerDOS, iMAME4All/Gridlee, Awesome Baby Names, Lawnmower, etc etc
With builds.io you don't have to do the date trick. Of course ipa's are better but for people who have missed out on those builds.io is great. Theyll renew the yearly license for sure. Plus it's only $10
yeah, it's a great alternative, indeed i currently have GBA4iOS 2.1 and Provenance from iEmulators (both with date trick)... unfortunately i'm stuck on iOS 7.1.2 on an iPhone 4S (due to its poor performance with iOS 8), and Provenance only supports Genesis games in that version (in fact Homebrew supports only 8 and later), i've contacted the dev and he tell me that it will have no more updates for iOS 7 version.
I don't see a problem with that, they offer all the public emulator builds and that's all I want, I can't justify spending an extra $90 to do the exact same thing but be the one signing the builds. I admit that these certificates are constantly at risk just like the enterprise certificate which was shut down last year for github.
Looks like it's officially gone. I can understand people wanting to support the "original" however as many others said it's severely limited compared to Homebrew. As long as you're not on 8.3, homebrew gives you pretty much full access with no restrictions forever for a small price.
Well I grabbed Homebrew as a nice backup as I'm on 8.1 ,, but: -I hate scrolling through 300 roms in it if I want to play Zelda. That's 300+ button presses! -I hate having a bunch of random indie roms loaded / mixed in that I can't remove -I hate that you can't read the game title in landscape mode -on Provenance you can easily add to your collection of roms and game art from right inside the app.. No computer even needed. -on 8.2 and earlier, you can always still add roms to provenance with computer exactly like you do Homebrew by drag and drop.. AND, if your on 8.3 you can just do it through iTunes. No special programs needed. Really Provenance is the much better choice for me and very much worth the money in my opinion
