While FTL is still my favorite of the genre, it's certainly head and shoulders above Star Command and Panthera in my opinion. The game has been out on Steam for a year, so more gameplay footage and reviews are easy to find. http://store.steampowered.com/app/505730/Holy_Potatoes_Were_in_Space/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjJYicEOyKs Here's are some highlights from a Steam user named Ronneberg: The gameplay happens in two stages - ship management and the combat stage. The management stage is choosing which planets to fly to, what to research, which weapons to use, what your crew should do etc. This part of the game takes a while to be fully understood, since there are so many things one should manage, and thus the HUD is quite extensive. The most important part of this, is the travelling in between solar systems, the game seems to have countless random encounters, achieving the desired feeling of exploration. The other stage of the game, is the fighting. The player can choose to go on exploration missions on a planet, which happens in the form of a queue of random encounters. Usually, one gets into a few battles on an exploration like this, and that's when the second half of the game begins: Basically the player chooses how to spend the ship's energy, which weapons to use, what to target etc. Replayability is a very big aspect in this game, since most mechanics were specifically designed to make new playthoughs a new experience. Thanks to the variety in encounters, ships, actions etc. this was very well achieved. Pros: +Replayable +Humorous +Rich in content Cons: -Fighting can get stale after long gameplay -HUD takes time to get used to HelperMonkey Well-Known Member Dec 16, 2009 632 8 18 Iowa #10 HelperMonkey, Mar 1, 2018 Excellent little summary, Mr. Sauce. On some devices the upper left HUD element covers the button to exit the room and it can't be activated. In the Discord channel, I noticed someone on an iPhone X had the same issue, though his button wasn't as obscured as it is on the iPad Pro. I was able to get past this by loading it on my iPhone 7s, where the HUD layout works as expected. Thankfully, this game has a cloud save but it's worth investigating whether there are any other instances where progression is blocked by a UI bug. As a piece of feedback (that I'll also post to Discord), I wish there was more consistency in the placement of the go back/ exit button in the UI. It can appear on the left top of a window as a red X, left bottom as a red X or a button, right top as a button, etc etc. Bloodangel Well-Known Member Jan 19, 2011 1,824 46 48 Retail England #18 Bloodangel, Mar 1, 2018 Im also thinking the same.
