Holograms is now available for purchase on the iTunes Store! Turn your photographs and screenshots into virtual holograms. If you get it this week, it's only $0.99! Buy it, make a hologram, and show it off by replying to this thread like this: [media=youtube]eTt1zCXKyY4[/media]
I'm an addict when it comes to these little photo apps, kinda reminds me of Wobble but seems to have some better features, I'll pick this up and let you guys know how it is... [EDIT] - BTW, Great video Dev! Really helped in my purchase decision...
So far so good, I like it. One question for the Dev, how did you do laser cat? when I use the erase tool on it, it looks like you have 2 photos layered? If so how do you do that? I only have the option for one photo per hologram, or do I? If you could maybe give a step by step on laser cat, because that is awesome looking! [EDIT] - NM, I figured it out! I'll leave a review in a bit....
It sounds like 1337brian figured it out. But for everyone else's benefit, you have two layers (foreground and background) with each hologram. To do something like the laser cat, put an image in the foreground and set its effect to "Laser". Then, erase around the edges. Finally, switch to the background layer in the settings and load a background image.
Review time... Ok, So I have been using this for about an hour and feel i have played with it enough to give a decent review... The video does a great job demonstrating it and I don't think much of a review is neccessary but for those that are still on the fence... This app does what it's supposed and does it very easily and nicely (once you learn it). You can layer 2 photos, like the example in the video of "Laser Cat" The dev uses his hand as a background, and the cat as the forground. You can add different effects to those layers and come up with some very cool results. The best thing this app has is the rainbow effect that some might remember from hologram baseball cards and such. I did a Tampa Bay Bucs logo without any effects and it looked well... Decent enough, but you can get almost the same effect from an app like wobble.. I added on the rainbow effect onto it and TaDa! that made the whole difference. It really made me feel like I was looking at one of those baseball cards.. Very nice touch! The learning curve isn't bad at all... Not much to learn really, mainly you will have to play around and learn the best ways to "raise" your holograms so they look optimal. This app has many features for just $1 and I think if this looks like something that you might be interested in, i don't think you can go wrong... It took me awhile to finally make a hologram that made me say "Wow!" but once I did, I learned the full potential of this app. Also included is a few demos that your can edit yourself to learn how they did those effects... The only request I have so far would be a toggle to see the "Heights" of the image, currently the only way to do that is by touching the image, but when you do this it will "paint" it higher or lower depending on which one you have selected... [EDIT] - Also a way to layer effects on top of each other would be nice as well (More then 2)...
Thanks for the review, 1337brian! As he mentioned, I think the demo video gives a pretty good indication of what exactly the app does. One thing that's hard to convey, though, is how much of an impact it can have when you hand your iPhone to a friend and have them tilt the holograms for themselves. Or when you take a picture of them, turn it into a hologram, and they see themselves in 3D on the iPhone. Also, thanks for the suggestions. It's difficult to balance having more features with keeping the app simple, but I'll keep the ideas in mind.
Well I think a zoom while editing would be great, adding more layers or at least being able to combine effects within a certain layer. All in all it's a lot of fun, I've been using baseball card images and making those into some pretty cool looking holograms...
The app is pretty cool, and I am enjoying playing around with it. I do have a few issues that I hope someone can address. I did watch the video twice, but I still have a few questions. One problem I am having is with the "Layer Height" slider adjustment. If I slide it at all--in any direction away from the preset layer height--strange things begin to happen! It seems like when I slide it one way, the whole screen turns black. When I slide it the other way, the picture jumps all over--it kind of seems to "vibrate." Maybe I am not understanding exactly what the layer height adjustment is supposed to do. When I turn on the red-blue effect, I don't really see any difference, except that the image turns to sepia. (And, of course, I am using red-blue glasses! ) I really want to like this app--I am a big fan of holograms--so I am hoping that once these questions are answered I will be able to enjoy it a little more, and then leave a great review in the app store! Thanks.
Hey gekkota, thanks for purchasing the app! I can tell you exactly what's going on. If the layer height is too low, it may disappear because one layer is below the other and they're drawn with a depth test which culls out before the opacity test is done. So in general, try to put the things in front in the foreground layer. If the layer height it set very high, it appears to jump around erratically because the orientation becomes very sensitive to the accelerometer. (Imagine the accelerometer as a shaky base and a high layer is like a very tall tower of blocks. The top moves around a lot more than the bottom ones.) The red-blue (anaglyph) effect is there, but very subtle for images that have only been displaced a bit. To see a dramatic effect, set the background effect to "stars". In fact, if I have a pair of red-blue glasses handy, sometimes I just show the stars effect to people because it's pretty impressive to hold a device in your hand that looks like it's coming through it. Let me know if you have any other questions!
OK, now I get it! I didn't really understand the concept of layer height until I switched it to red-blue and started playing around with the adjustments. It became much more obvious then what it means! All I can say is WOW! Five stars for you Mach...and for your unwitting guinea pig, Tracy!!
very cool app. Hopefully someone will put up some tutorial vids so I can get more in depth with it. 5 stars!
one question, i am assuming it saves your work? automatically so if you get a phone call or have to quit out?
Yup! The hologram gets saved every time you switch away from that screen: when you hit the home button, when you go back to the list of holograms, etc.
