I really wonder how many people that steal games would have bought that game if there were not able to get it for free. I have a feeling that most of them would not have purchased the game.

There were some really good topics here last year regarding the stealing of games. I also remember there was a time when there were a lot of posts by Devs that showed what they lost due to piracy. This Dev may want to go research those thread for advice.

I have three touch systems, all are non jail broken and I have paid for or recieved a promo code for all of my 500 plus games. I am against piracy but think that the numbers of a loss, do not really indicate the reality of lost sales, since I doubt many of those people would have actually of bought the game.

  2. This has always been my position. Piracy happens, and will continue to happen. There's really nothing you can do about it other than make hackers work for their cracks, which ultimately is more costly than beneficial because it will be cracked whether you like it or not.

Ultimately, the vast majority of those who pirate wouldn't have bought the game had they no other option. In large part, they can't be attributed to lost sales because they never had that potential. The only truly sensible and least stressful thing to do is to ignore the douchebag pirates and focus on your good, paying customers who value and support your time and efforts. Don't look at the piracy numbers. They're irrelevant. Focus on the dailies and the CSV Apple sends you every month. Those are the numbers that matter.

You made a good game here. It's different, it doesn't follow the trends, and it doesn't feel like it's trying to be different for difference's sake. That's hard enough to do as it is, so enjoy that, and enjoy the sales it gets you -- which are hopefully substantial enough to be encouraging. If you just look at how many cheap-ass morons are pirating your game compared to how many legitimately paid, all it's going to get you is depressed, because the numbers will always favour the pirates, usually by a wide margin. It sucks, but that's just life in the software biz and it's as common as dirt. Do what you do because you love it, and for the people who love it enough to support it financially, and screw the pirates. If you let them get to you, you're letting them steal more than your game.

I wasn't actually aware that this was possible. How are they able to inform them exactly?

But if this IS the case, I think developers should ALWAYS do this, as even if the person is aware, I think in many cases people justify piracy to themselves by thinking "everybody" does it, and no one really cares or notices. Being singled out in such a way and approached directly would serve as a potent wake-up call.

So romanc, if that is your real screen name, what were you doing on these pirating sites? Pirating fellow devs I assume. Then you see your own game is pirated and come crying to TA to get some pity sales. Hell, you probably put your own game up there for everyone to see just to come here and make some dinero. Pathetic.

Dude this is basically shilling. Everyones games unfortunately get pirated. This guy is just whining to get some extra sales, which it appears he has already. Hell, I almost bought his game too until I realized he was just moping around to get sales.

Nice try :) I was just googling for my game and the first two links were leading to the pirate sites.

My real name is Igor Petrov.

I appreciate that. Hope you like it.

Sure thing, real customers is all I have. And since it is very easy to put updates on their devices, I'm going to improve the game for them.

So I downloaded your game. My name on it is DPP13 so you can check and see I am on your leaderboards. If your game is pirated so much why are the leaderboards virtually empty? I played a bit of each mode and checked the leaderboards and am top 10 in like all them, most of them have less than 10 people too lol.

Good game though. Only 2 recommendation. 1) Would like a horizontal mode. Horizontal seems more fun for tilt games. 2) Wish the default mode (the first option when you choose new game) was a little longer. Otherwise good showing. Nice to see some new, original ideas on th App Store instead of the usual Doodle - Zombie - Tower Defense game.

Oh and btw romanc, I would like to apologize. Your game is very good and of high quality. I am just so sick of devs complaining about piracy on this site when the main problem is their game is total crap and just a clone. I shouldve actually checked your game out first before accusing you of being one of them.

Any games in the future for you? Because I will probably buy from you again. You have a follower in me now.

Yeah, that was a surprize for me as well. First thing I thought is that pirated version could not connect to the Agon servers. Or may be this is because of the problems that Agon experienced yesterday. (yeah I know, OpenFeint is better... ) I would say that only 5-10% of players who _bought_ the game are posted their scores online. I will continue to investigate this.

    1) I wouldn't agree about horizontal. The thing is that player should observe long distance and if we rotate the device it would not be possible to do so.
Also it is very convenient to play with only hand and in portrait mode while you standing in a queue.

    2) You mean that 4 miles is too much? Well probably you are right.

    Thank you for the suggestions.

No I meant 4 miles is not long enough. I would prefer some kinda longer trip, although I guess free ride can serve that purpose.

Do not remove Hit N'Run from your device. And look for the future updates. We age going to implement AI, curves, ramps, garage, chase mode and lots of good stuff.
I can not promise that all of those features will be released next week (give us some time to implement them :) )

I think Apple decided not to fix the hole with resigning and focused on the in-app purchases. For example this solution in theory allows devs to implement their own protection schemes where it is possible to send to the device missing part of the code signed with user's UDID.

I was thinking if I want to implement any kind of protection in the future builds. Probably no. It would take some time. And I already stealing that time from my family making this game on the weekends.

If you know any free of inexpensive protection framework (something like Securom or Starforce for the PC) please let me know, though.
