Ultimately I can't really put my photo collection on it since it requires albums and doesn't have a hierarchal structure available so that's a fail (iPhoto and Photos app). Anyway looked in iPad user manual saw no mention of this. When you tap to view a photo and wish to return to index rather than clicking top left corner to go back it's quicker to either pinch inwards. Ok most probably figured that out on their own. But here is the hidden secret. Tap photo with two fingers to also return to index. Here is screenshot kinda showing how photo fullscreen returning to index.
