Today i realized something terrible. I depleted my bank account for money and really wanted to buy a couple of apps. So i asked the oldies if i could borrow a couple of bugs to buy schoolbooks (very common in my Business College). They said yes and i bought a couple of more apps for my iDevice. I then looked over my total expenses for apps and it has exceeded what would be around kr2,931.91 I've only had my iPhone 3GS (and now iPhone 4) since September last year and when i looked at my apps I've rarely played any of them more than an hour. I guess i just like to own them. Have/Are any of you experiencing this and do you know how to make it stop?
I've found the best way is to take the credit card off of iTunes, and stick to free games and earning iTunes monies via promotions and other methods. Then said monies become more valuable, I get more choosy in purchasing, and actually start to play more games!
We have a group for this, Appaholics Anonymous. Therapy sessions have been off and on recently. 2 most posted solutions I think I've seen in the forum have been 1. Buy apps only with iTunes cards and create a monthly balance to stand by. The theory was there is more shame in paying a lot for an app card in person. 2. Remove your credit card from your iTunes account, this way you value your purchases a bit more when you have to go through the hassle of inputting it everytime.
The best way around it is to kill yourself. nah im just kidding this is a serious problem though. I relieved it by getting married.
i've spent around 380usd on apps since i got my iPod Touch seven months ago. It's about 1.50 every day. i understand your problem, haha. the surest way to not spend is to just take off your card. or you could do what i do and just add apps to your wishlist-- that way you don't impulse buy, and you can go back later and see what is truly interesting and worthwhile.
I have a cheapo Green Dot debit card from Walgreens that I have to manually reload. I feel your pain, though, I was once in that dark place. Now my money's flying away with console games, my first fishing pole, and just going out (small popcorn and small soda, $11.49, more than the freakin' movie ticket).
I've learned to discipline myself more than I used to. Before each purchase I usually try to research it some and see if its really something I would like and want to play and not just getting carried away with some of the hype that goes with a game. btw, I totally understand where your coming from....
I was once stricken with this disease as well. However I've just started college and it's suddenly completely disappeared
I go on sperts and yes some months I go a bit over board . The catch for me is the pricing , 5 to 10is really not that bad for an app , but when you add them all ups can get pretty costly . I have just come off a recent spending spree and will put the app frezz into efect for the next month or so . As for apps that have been bought and not used enough to justify the buying of the app , I think most of us can relate .
I got my iPod in April 2009, and started buying Apps in May 2009. Today, I have 361 Apps in my iTunes, most of which I haven't played for more than a few minutes. I've spent WELL over $1400 on the AppStore, and yes: I'm an App-Shopaholic too (my wife HATES the AppStore immensely...)
I'd say that I've spent about $300 on apps ever since I got my iPod almost two years ago. My app buying used to be out of control, but lately I've managed to only get about $4 a week. With all of the great apps coming out, it's been hard to stick to that limit, but I... keep scraping by, keep scraping by, li lo le lo li, li lo le lo li, keep scraping by, keep scraping by, li lo le lo li, keep scraping BYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!! oooh, que color, que color, que color, que colo-o-ooor... ... no? Hasn't anyone else ever heard that song?
Set a monthly limit, do some research before you buy a game, so you'll only buy games that are actually good. Don't just buy every new app you see, pick the good ones.
Setting a monthly limit seems like thing to try, but the other suggestion doesn't work for me. I only buy "good" review games already.
Ok here's another thing you could do. Buy a few good PC games, so you won't play/buy iPhone games when you are at home in your spare time. I guess that's a good idea, sort of worked for me (I bought a laptop with quite a bit of games (Steam Sales) and I haven't bought any game in the AppStore for months (I also have an Android phone now)).
Just to give you guys feedback. I tried removing my creditcard from iTunes so that i had to insert it again when i needed to buy something. It really helped. I've only bought a couple of apps since.
