I would wait for them to fix the bugs. For some, the game is completely unstable and unplayable. But i think its a perfect type of game for an iPad, cant wait to actually be able to play it without restarting every 3 min.
It funny how a lot of people on the AppStore are complaining about the game crashing and they aren't even playing on a supported device. If you are playing on an iPad 2 or iPad mini 1 then you can not expect the game to run smoothly, nor should you expect the developer to make the game run on your device. The game runs just fine on my iPad mini 2, I haven't had a single crash and I have played several hours into the game.
Tap once to pick them up. Then tap and hold as you put them back. The description will pop up then. Hopefully it will be fixed along with the large monster melee bug and the two finger map scroll bug.
Can you tell me the name of the folder and where it's nested? I can see the map folder using iExplore on a non-jailbreak device, but nothing I put in there shows up in the game for use. The fact that they go to such great lengths to hide it leads me to believe that they intend to sell us map packs.
Yeah. I don't know what the purpose of that folder is, but it doesn't seem to be used by the game at all. There's a different directory hidden pretty deep down in the protected files where the maps actually are. I can't recall offhand exactly where it is, but I can tell you that without jailbreaking you'll never even be able to see it. EDIT: I'm fairly certain that I would buy a map pack if they were to release one, either way, as long as they give a fair amount of content for the price. My feeling is that porting good games like Heroes over to iPad is something that should be supported. I'm on iPad 2. I have had it crash every now and then, but for the most part the game runs fine. I'm an old school PC gamer, though, so YMMV. I'm used to having things crash unexpectly for no apparent reason. I just jump back in and reload the last autosave.
I was playing the first single scenario "All for one" where 3 friends became enemies. Oh mine, it was tough... I don't remember how I completed the game 15 years ago. Each time you defeated one hero, you suffered a heavy loss in minions, then the other hero would come attacking. Looks like the only way to win the game is to let the other 2 heroes fought each other to death and then you take out the weakened hero.
Thanks for the info. I can confirm that iExplorer cannot see the folder you are describing on an unjailbroken iPad. Like you, I would gladly buy a map pack but the fact that none are offered for sale combined with the fact that they've locked the map folder down is really taking the wind out of my sales regarding this release.
I'm not convinced that having the maps in a difficult-to-reach location was a deliberate act by the developers to keep us out. I'm new to iOS file manipulation (I jailbroke and set myself up with iFunbox specifically for the purpose of discovering whether importing maps from the PC was even possible), but from what I can tell nearly all of my other apps have their files stored in a similar way. I'd blame it more on Apple's closed-system philosophy. For what it's worth, I'm sure that this is all wide open in the PC release.
You may be right, but the lack of file transfer support within iTunes and the presence of an easy to reach map folder that is completely ignored by the App leads me to believe otherwise. Still glad to have it, and I will continue to play the hell out of it until I get tired of the large/XL maps that are available.
Oh, it's certainly a deliberate act by someone, I just don't feel that placing the blame on the developers is particularly fair.
It is much better, thank you ! Otherwise, I have just finished the first campaign without a single crash (first gen iPad Air). Great game (sweet nostalgia) ; I hope the dev will find the code of the two extensions in a box somewhere...
You can also hold down in a blank spot next to the artifact, then slide your finger over onto it. That'll simulate a right-click without the game thinking that you mean to pick it up.
Fair enough. Still, the other platform they released it to is advertised as having full map editor support. Given that, I would be much more suspect of Apple's notoriously restrictive approval policies. Could the developer and publisher have created an official way for maps to be imported? Maybe, but perhaps they decided that it simply wasn't worth the effort it would take to jump through Apple's hoops.
Okay I got my new pants.... I bought this instantly obviously. It plays just like the version I had for the computer. I have been playing Palm kingdom 2 so I could have my HoMM craving scratched.. Palm Kingdom 2 is great but I like this one better. Maybe it's the nostalgic feeling but man this is awesome. If you were a fan of the PC version get this one. I hope they add the expansions. I will even pay for them. I buy many of the ported games, Baldurs gate, icewind dale, Avernum and etc... Those all collect dust. This one hasn't been, I've played it nonstop since I got it.... I'm in the bathroom so often hiding on the wife and kids to play it I have a permanent ring around my buttocks. For new players: the following information is the same for the PC or iPad It's kind of complex at first. There is so much on the screen you might get confused and feel like your overloaded. Don't worry it's turn based take your time. Go into your city and make sure you get a couple heroes on the go! Collect as much stuff as possible of course and the guy above had the best tip! Have surf heroes cart armies to your most powerful. Don't assume your gonna win just because it looks like you got way more guys either. Carful attacking a city, you could be left for the slaughter with out the right preparations. I'm sure there's a wiki. Oh yes, there's scenarios, custom scenarios and of course career. Pretty good stuff. Oh! One big downfall, it's hard to click on things sometimes. Maybe it's because I'm on an iPad mini retina but sometimes it's really hard to click on a map position to walk too. I hit the wrong spot often. Also when your in combat, if your shooting a ranged weapon you have to double tap on what you want to hit. Sometimes I have a rough time doing this because the collision box seems small. When you want to attack with melee you have to hold down your finger on the bad guy and when the yellow hexes show up, pick the one you want to goto. It's in the super quick tutorial. You can't go wrong with this game. They kept it premium so show some support and purchase it would ha? If you get bored of it cause you've sank hundreds of hours and want a bit of a change go get Palm kingdoms two. Same game just a bit different. Thanks eh?
To be clear, Palm Kingdoms is a clone based on the HoMM series of games. It's a decent game in it's own right, but given the choice I'm sure that most would recommend the original. PK2 does run better on older hardware, though.
Im playing on ipad air, i gotta say thx to everyone on here who cleared up how some of the controls work. I get around the 2 finger map movement just by holding my finger down on the mini map and moving it around, much smoother!. Love this port and even the controls. Only really small problem i have with it is the content that wasnt included.
