For now I am not really sure if I like it or dislike it. I have every game orange pixel has released and love almost all of them ( neotaria is my least favourite) and I also like gauntlet a lot ( played it a lot when it was in the arcade back in the eigthies) so maybe my expectations were too high . The floating stick is à pain for me on the iPad and bearable on the iPhone , the overall gameplay feels a bit stale and not very enticing to give me the " just one more go" vibe .. I am not saying the game is bad i am just not feeling it .. Will keep on playing this to see if it grows on me
Your game description could well be the definition of Doom: "All you do is walk around killing the same old enemies." What you forget is that it all depends on what you're expecting. For me it's fantastic for its price.
At the end of the day what I said about the gameplay is true. Just being honest. You can't say I'm talking rubbish cause then you clearly ain't got it to know what I'm talking about. All you see is, great game, insta buy, etc... No actual comment on gameplay. So what I said is for people to make their decision wether or not to pay for this.
You could have a bit more eloquent. I think it'a a good game which may be great as I haven't played enough but I'm not a big fan of that floating joystick. I'll stick with it though.
Gameplay is Gauntlet style, with random dungeons. You have mini quests and as you advance, you find new things. I'm in dungeon 14 and I've began finding new things such as a well of water which needs a special cup to be used, missions such as kill X or rescue Y, new enemies which are bigger than the ones found at the beginning, etc. I can tell you that you're talking rubbish because you said that when you exit the game you lose your progress. That's plain false. Sure, in Gunslugs it happens, but in Heroes of Loot you get a message asking if you want to continue your previous game. If you accept, then you continue the game where you left it, with your progress in the current game (honestly, do you have the game? You should have noticed this feature) Of course, if you die it's permadeath and you have to begin again, but that's the attractive of this game: quick bursts of play. As I said before, the game is great, I like it and it all depends on what you expect. Btw, 148apps also gave it 4.5/5 stars. Dev: can you add a fixed joystick as some have already asked? Also, on a side note, can you add a savestate to Gunslugs too? So that when you exit and re-enter the game you can continue where you left
In the future you might want to practice some tact. Even something like: "I really didn't see what all the hype was about, here are the aspects of the game I didn't care for..." As it stands it sounds like you were both insulting the developer AND anybody who enjoys the game and, therefore, an Interweb Troll trying to pick a fight here.
Hey people, I never have enough money to buy good items early and you can't go back to that particular shop. I also can't get past dungeon lvl 7 I'm using the elf and the highest I can get him in that time is lvl 4. Am I missing something here ? Will still keep trying as I'm a big Orange Pixel fan and the game is fun - I just want to progress, any tips would be most welcome
Lets investigate and look for some "truth". Opinion so far, presented in a very uncivilized manner at that. Lies (the opposite of truth). New enemies appear regularly as you progress, as do environmental obstacles (traps and so forth). Opinion again... Lies again, you can save and resume. Oh my god that's actually true! Though it's the way the game is designed and has been stated by numerous people in this thread already so anyone reading this thread should already know that going in. And back to opinion. Final verdict: Minimal truth, mostly opinion presented rudely and without really describing anything in a way that would help anyone make a decision, interspersed with lies.
Neoteria could be freaking fantastic with a couple new control options to choose from. Retro side-scrolling shooters are my weakness and I was slightly let down by Neoteria just because of the controls. Everything else about it is great. Hopefully Pascal can add a few more control choices in an update *crosses fingers*
IMO it's not even about truth/lie. That's the point of this kind of game. It shouldn't be pointed as a disadventage.
They already added 360 degree movement because people cried about the new direction they tried to go with it and it broke the game as far as I'm concerned. It wasn't designed to be played that way. Anyway, OT, bump the Neoteria thread if you want to discuss
Yup, I agree on all your points regarding the controls and bumping the other thread to discuss further. I still prefer the original controls and always think everything Pascal releases is pure gold. Glad to hear the great reviews for Heroes of Loot and hope those translate into tons of sales. You deserve it, Pascal, especially after reading your blog going through the iterations of the game and your struggle creating something that you love.
this game is kinda dumb. love the style, controls work well enough, funny dialogue, but my eyes glazed over and i stopped caring like halfway through the ta plays video. and even sooner after i played it myself. why did i buy this? love the dev, love roguelikes, but they definitely missed me with this one.
So I think the furthest I got was dungeon 28. I think some achievements neglected to unlock for me, reach dungeon level 15 for instance. Also there are three leader boards but there only seems to be one gameplay option. Something like Rookies, Heroes, and Master. How do I pick?
I wondered that as well, especially since it doesn't even seem you can set the Dungeon Difficulty, it's just based on your previous progress.
