On the other hand plenty of us have also logged hundreds of hours with similar games and have found the controls to be fine. I mean its not like 'The Older Brothers' floating joystick issue, this doesnt seem bad at all. Seems a bit OTT to get a refund from Apple, i heard they dont keep refunding people non stop, you bought the game, theres no major bug or that, just you dont like the controls, you cant really get a refund for that. Or i might as well request refunds for every game i buy which then i realise has tilt (cant stand tilt) controls. Even when i found the Older Brothers controls to be poor i wouldnt have asked for a refund if they hadnt added a fixed joystick
To be fair, I probably would have never considered a refund except for all the fanboy dismissiveness at those of us who can't get these controls to do squat but kill our characters. For an example of just such a post, see your post above The Other Brothers is a whole other scenario. Those devs bent over backward to try and make things that worked for the community (going so far as to offer to personally refund anyone who was dissatisfied if Apple refused for whatever reason). Sure they failed and the game was still unplayable even after they "fixed" (and then promptly abandoned) it, but at least they tried and handled the issue with grace. Also, nice strawman on the oft repeated, never substantiated rumors about Apple and refunds for "nonstop" refunds. For the record, I've gotten a whole 3 refunds over close to a decade, I'm not worried about any possible cut off from Apple for 'nonstop' refund requests. However, your weak attempt at publicly shaming me aside, bad controls are a valid reason to request a refund since it falls under the "item opens but does not function as expected" reason. See, I expect that I won't be forced to chase a virtual stick across the screen because that wasn't listed as a feature when I bought the game
Maybe I can explain a bit to you how this works. I'm the "dev" who is keeping his silence on this option, I created the game, and created it for Android, iOS, Ouya, PC and Mac all at once. I've been pushing updates since the release on most of these platforms, fixing the urgent problems that most people seem to have.. Controls are not part of those problems, as I read thousands of replies, reviews, comments, feedback on all platforms for the last 1.5 weeks. It's not working for everyone, obviously, but that doesn't make it a "top of the list" problem to fix, most people are actually positive about the controls on all these platforms, sites, and forums. Further more, doing updates on Apple usually requires a week before the changes I made go live, unlike the other platforms where they are basically approved instantly. The "fixed stick" is on my todo list, but it's not a bug or an urgent issue, so that's why it hasn't been done yet. It's not a matter of just making the stick stay in one place, because people will want to also dictate where that "one place" is on the screen. If making games and controls that work for 100% of humanity was easy, I'm sure you yourself would have some hit games by now
I don't have a problem with floating controls and I find this game very playable, but the stick feels a bit off when I compare it to my gold standard floating d-pad game (pocket RPG which has the option for fixed and floating and I prefer floating because they're done so damn well)
Yeah that was a sad situation with the Older Brothers, i sat here patiently and did enjoy the game after the update but they do seemed to have just 'disappeared'. As for Orange Pixel, yeah i love their games so i might be a bit biased, but i always found the dev to be quite active here, in all their previous game forums they've always posted a fair few times. Another dev i could understand being worried but not Orange Pixel.
I withdraw my complaint about the controls. Since there is no tutorial, I thought the fire button was a stick. Still not perfect, or as good as some similar games, but good enough. I got to the second hardest dungeon difficulty in maybe 20-30 minutes. The total lack of a few info screens is baffling.
That's great, but ignoring the obvious question why it wasn't in there at launch given the general standard virtual stick options (fixed, floating, user positioned/sized), you didn't do yourself any favors by both misrepresenting the general theme in user requests and shooting it down as something you only might get around to but probably not because it was confusing: A simple, "Hey, I hear you on the fixed stick and it's on the to-do list" is all that was needed. Instead you continued to ignore a number of posts still mentioning the controls but immediately replied to other matters, such as saying you were going to put fixing the leader boards on the to-do list after a single post. I'm not expecting miracles from one man indie dev shows, but I'm also not being unreasonable in continuing to squeak the wheel on such a basic issue as virtual stick problems even if I am a minority of the users when your one and only post addressing the issue was dismissive.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. An argument about the controls is oftentimes the sign of a good game because it means that people are getting excited and worked up about it. Just keep in mind that the vast majority of people here (A) appreciate the tremendous amount of effort that goes into not only creating a independent game but also in continuing to update it based upon player feedback and (B) recognize that you are only capable of producing excellent games!
Please let it go ! I think hes basically saying not many people have moaned/criticised/asked about the controls, its on the list but the problems people might have had which are larger are the ones he wants to sort out first before the smaller ones Believe me i'll moan about controls if they're shocking as it ruins everything, but i havent had a problem with this game (And it seems the masses havent either). For the Older Brothers there were plenty of issues about the controls, loads of people asked about the controls so did iOS websites as they mentioned them several times in reviews. But the reviews i've read for this game, controls never are brought up as an issue. The devs not stupid, if this was a major issue he'll be updating it asap and begging Apple for a quick update. Just seems like most people havent had a problem with it. The devs been at this forum for years, its not like he ignores us
The only one not letting go is you insisting I shouldn't civilly point out why I made this more than a one off in the first place. The game was $2, don't really care that much. However, the relativistic, "I don't have any problem with the controls therefore you are being a richardhead for bringing this up a whole four times independently!" is insulting and unwarranted. I expressed feedback, and after the dev responded, clarified my position, full stop. Perhaps most hilariously, you outright agreed with my request for fixed stick the first time I brought it up, even saying it was standard for these type of games, you only reversed course and went on this seemingly personally aimed "Leave Pascal ALONE!" crusade after your "favorite dev" poo-pooed the notion.
Woot!! Update with some fixes and tweaks. Glad to see the Wizard strength tweaked. With this update, is there any chance the leader boards will be cleared? I don't think many will be able to match their previous high scores with the Wizard tweaks...
Some more tweaks are coming that might make it possible again. Besides removing things like that is a tough call especially for those users that are high in the rankings and taking rankings too serious
@OrangePascal A silly bug: the cellular coverage and battery info don't disappear when you open the game. I don't know if you see it in the screen capture, but on top of the Facebook icon you can see the "Movistar" label. At the right is the battery info. Difficult to see because it appears in black, but I assure you it's there.
I have my phone language set to Spanish. Maybe it has to do with that... EDIT: Hasn't got to do with language settings, but unfortunately rebooting didn't help. It's still there
