Another dumb question.... for those later on in the game than I.... are gems really that important? Because so far, the game's economy doesn't seem to be all that gem based
The only thing I've used them for is an occassional resurrection (costs 3 gems). If I feel like I'm towards the end of a quest and don't want to start it all over again, I use them. I save any I find just for that purpose. Otherwise, no, haven't spent any on equipment.
Good to know.... it's kinda silly that they make them for purchase, unless as I mentioned before, that you spend gems to get rid of the timer... then I can see them being worth it
Another quick question.... is there a glossary of terms anywhere, by the way? Like what leeching or life stealing means/differences, etc etc etc
Responses Great questions, all. Here are some responses: "Is that just for health potions or potions of power too? And generally, I only use the potions when I am about to die.... but even then, they don't work and I either run like heck to get away or die." Yes, this applies to both the red and blue potions. But, to be honest, I never use my potions (they remain at a maximum count of 9 and 9 for the red and blue potions). If you purchase equipment that increases your odds of getting health orbs, you won't need health potions. "Good, I'm doing that. I also try to equip eq that knocks the enemy back when they hit me, so even those damned archers don't just sit there and pick me off, as they get knocked back and it slows them down." The shield bash is another great tool for this. Also, I always pick off the archers, mages, and healers. Yes, as you play this game more, you'll encounter creatures who heal other enemies. So, they are good to annihilate first. "Really? That a hell of a long time... mine is at a hour (guess you're more advanced than I am) but are you saying that there already exists a mechanism to speed up the wait times between quests?" Here's how it works. If you use 5 gems, the wait time disappears and you can play the next quest immediately. "Yes, think what he's saying is that you can pay gems (I guess 5? Never tried it) to eliminate the wait." Also, keep in mind that you do not have to buy gems. You can earn them by completing quests and farming. I get 2-3 gems per day through this method. As a result, every other day, I am able to use my gems to unlock an additional quest. "The only thing I've used them for is an occassional resurrection (costs 3 gems). If I feel like I'm towards the end of a quest and don't want to start it all over again, I use them. I save any I find just for that purpose." When you think about it, each quest takes about 15-20 minutes to complete. Even the advanced ones take this long, and that is only because I want to search every room, slay every creature, and acquire every treasure for the quest. So, even if you die, you have to restart, which takes about 15-20 minutes. On the other hand, if you use those gems, you then have to wait until the allotted time for the next quest (which for me takes eight hours). So, the higher you ascend, the more you want to use those gems to unlock other quests. To reiterate, gems should be spent on unlocking quests only. If you read one of my earlier posts, I listed a strategy which should result in you never dying, so you do not have to use gems for resurrection.
I guess as someone who doesn't get a lot of long stretches of time to play, I don't care too much about unlocking the quests early, but do care if I play for 20 minutes and suddenly find myself in a horde that I can't get out quickly enough, I'd rather pay to resurrect than play through it again. That said, most of the time, I have no problems getting through a quest without dying (so far), by using tactics similar to those you had earlier in the thread. My BIGGEST problem right now is crashes. Not sure, but the quest I'm on, "finding clues about the stolen bodies," seems longer than any I've played thus far. I believe I was around the 25 minute mark when I had my last crash. And I've had three so far on that level. Fix the crashes and I'd be a happy camper.
Waiting between missions kills it for me. Not going to fall down the IAP trap. A shame, since I'd buy this game otherwise.
Now up to SIX crashes on the same level -- all probably at least 15-20 minutes in. As much as I enjoy playing the game, I'm probably going to put it on the back burner until they fix the crash issue.
I finished the game and there 30 quest. Im guessing the wizard has another 10 quest. Sad part is I do not have enough gem to unlock the wizard. I was hoping I would have enough gem to unlock the wizard. I was wondering when replaying old level do you get to keep the gem you find? For me when replay a level every time I find a gem it never get save when I compete the level. I found a way to change your metal shield to a wooden round shield. Just unequipped your shield and you get a wooden shield; but once you do it you cannot change back
Having a great time with it. Totally agree with the tip earlier about not using your health pick-ups unless you need them, and then backtracking and getting them if in trouble. Loving my Zweihander sword, does some decent 40-50 (ish) damage. Am on level 9. If I don't want to wait I use 5 gems and then go back to farm more in the first couple of levels if I need them, which I also find fun to replay. I find too that you can use the terrain in combat for tactical advantage. Standing in a doorway or staircase bottlenecks the enemies, meaning they can't surround you, and then once a decent amount are bottlenecked use a shield bash to stun them all and get to work! The dash is good to get through quickly to the rear and take out those spell casters first. Or hide around a corner where the spells can't get you and then take out the foot soldiers that run after you first, then go in and cut down the casters. Good times! Can't wait to unlock the wizard, I have a while to go though.

So, I guess I have 3 quests to go. In terms of getting enough gems to unlock the wizard, you would either have to buy them or farm for them. By farming, you can get on average 2-3 gems per hour, which would translate to about 20-30 hours of playing to get the wizard character. Or, you can buy the gems. However, I agree that you should not have to pay to unlock another character. Or that you only get more dungeons if you pay. "Loving my Zweihander sword, does some decent 40-50 (ish) damage. Am on level 9." My soul stealing sword does 96-144 of damage. My recommendation is whenever you see a sword with a purple box around it to buy it because you don't know when that coveted sword will appear again.
I would say that it would be a more fair business model if they dropped the "pay to not wait" scheme and charged x amount of money to unlock the last levels (aka the wizard). That way we could play some levels for free and get hooked, then pay a one time fee to play the last levels. Like a shareware title in the olden days of pc gaming. I'm guessing a lot of people would then pay the fee to continue, but the current model insures that guys like me would rather pay for a rotten meal than pay a dime to a scheme like this.
I'd like to clarify that I am merely replying to someone else's post that there are no quests after 30. Presently, I have completed only 27 quests so I do not know if this is true. I'll find out soon enough. Also, I am not saying that anyone should farm for 20-30 hours or pay gems to unlock the second character. I was just responding to somebody's inquiry about how to unlock the character. Here's my take on this. I can do with the wait times between quests. For me, this gives the game more of a special feel, as i play it a bit in the morning and then again in the evening. I'm even OK with the crashes as that is going to happen in a game from time to time. For me, this happened only once, and I can live with the occasional glitch. I know for others that this occurs more frequently and i do understand your frustration. However, to expect people to pay gems to unlock a second character just to complete the game defies logic. I am hoping this is not the case. If so, I'll stop after completing quest #30, and play something else. Just my two cents, Frisbee10461
You're lucky that you've only had it happen once. I think I've had at least one crash per level since maybe like the third mission. I was okay with a crash here and there. But now that it's happened six times on the same mission ....and late in the level every time...I'm done until it's fixed. There obviously must be some sort of memory issue or something on the 3GS (and maybe 4G). As I've mentioned, I do believe the level I'm on is the longest I've played so far. My concern is that even if the devs fix the crashes that they may see that people are "skating by" waiting on the missions without buying gems. And that they'll tweak the IAP system to be even worse. Only time will tell, but I wish the crashes were not an issue as it's the main thing that is now keeping me away from the game completely.
Couldn't stay away as much as I actually was enjoying the game so gave that "find clues about the stolen bodies" quest again. And got two of the three clues, thought I was nearing the end ....then crash. Ughh.... Read the devs Facebook page that said they submitted a fix for the crashes last week. Hope it arrives soon. Speaking of the dev, would like to hear more from him about plans for the game, but seems he's once again disappeared from the thread.
Ending Please do not read on if you do not want to see how the game ends. Heroes Call is the name of the game, and for good reason. Each character you play has a call to be a hero. So when you play the first character, the warrior, you have 30 quests to complete. At the end of the 30th quest, you have answered your call, and are now a hero. For me, I ponied up the 2.99 and purchased the 80 gems, which allowed me to play as the wizard. Again, I have another call to answer to be a hero as a wizard. The wizard is very cool, and you cannot use the same strategy to win as this character. Also, I love that the fireballs shoot right from your hands so you do not carry around a staff. For the wizard, I am level 6. And yes, there are new dungeons and new quests (plan b) is the name of such a quest.
Couldn't resist reading. Does it look like the Wizard also has 30 quests? Someone suggested before it may only be 10 additional ones. Won't even get to that point anyway if they don't fix the crashes.
