I just wish Siege would give gems :(. So far it is a fun mode but with no reward, and ever expanding stuff to spend gems on, seems like I should just keep on the campaign.

See earlier post... I realized you were talking about the single player siege mode, and I was talking about multiplayer. D'oh... repost below:

Wow, I tried siege mode after the update this afternoon. First try, the person I was playing immediately chose to be the good side and chose their level 62 character. While I was trying to read what the units, etc. were that I could buy, he went and killed my tree, so I ran towards his castle - and he came and started smacking me around! No chance at all.

Certainly intrigued by this mode - but hope I don't get more enemies like that! Otherwise I'll never last long enough to even guess what my side can do!

Yeah, I've gotten pretty angry a couple times now. I can appreciate that it's a bonus mode, but that doesn't make sucking at it any less frustrating. I'm not exaggerating. Here is how my BEST game went:

3 cultists off the break, followed by constant spawning of cheap units to keep the knight and his staff away from my side of the battlefield.

About a minute into the game, I've built up enough extra money to continue to maintain my cap of useless units and upgrade my hero a bit, so I put some points into armor, so I don't get glitched around the map like a hacky sack. I then picked up one of those dudes that let you spawn better units and started pumping out the next level of cheap dudes and repeated my attempts to build my hero.

Things are still going fine, bringing in a little money and getting stronger. I start spawning 1/3 decent/more expensive units and 2/3 cannon fodder, with the ultimate goal of continuing to build my hero and slowly escalate the quality of units I'm putting out. I notice that I'm getting smoked by archers so I run back and heal. Before I have time to turn around at the tree, my cap is at 0, and the castles has a full line of blunderbusses at the gates, 3 captains following around a mob of pikemen and a hero hacking away at me and not giving me a chance to recover and escape.

That was my best game, and there is no exaggeration in there at all. That's what happened. I've played a lot of games and I have a head for strategy and thinking on my feet. I'm experienced, both in this game and in the gaming world in general. A such, I have a very difficult time accepting that this lack of balance has anything to do with user incompetence. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but if I am, whatever it is is on a different level of cognition than I'm familiar with. As such, I'm frustrated. And your condescension doesn't help.

Do you see a flaw in my gameplan? Something I should be doing differently?

Ummm, you can upgrade your heroes damage, health, and armor (the bottom row of abilities). And you can upgrade your units health and damage with Standard Bearers, among other things (Warrior Liche has an ability that buffs all skeletons for example).

I definitely welcome thoughts and opinions, but we're not going to really dig deep until the update has been out for a few days, at least.

Heck, I remember when the game was first released everyone was talking about how weak Paladin and Engineer were compared to Knight. We heard how upgrade buildings were worthless. We heard how you didn't earn close to enough gold to even beat early levels... it'll take time to learn the ins and out ;)

Haha ouch... but thats what Siege mode is for :p To learn the evil side at your own leisure.

I think people are having a difficult time adjusting to evil. They're trying to use a similar playstyle to good, which won't produce brilliant results. I managed to finish it around my 5th attempt, think I did it in 8 mins. Keeping the details of my strategy a secret, but I basically just tried to do what I hate playing against.

No condescension implied... its just one thing to be like "wow, this mode is hard, not a fan of it all - will wait for some balance changes before I play again." vs what sounded like a very bold message of hatred :p I mean, me personally, I don't think I would delete a game that I enjoyed because a I didn't enjoy a bonus mode... that's kind of what I was getting at.

Anyways, as for strategy... there are just so many options to try its hard to go over them. You could go 2 cultists, spamming regular enemies until they start gathering slightly on the wall, and then upgrade your fallen knight's max damage ability + goblin mushroom and go hero hunting. You could upgrade to the Mummy Champion (which is a tank... starts with 5 armor and a ton of HP), upgrade some of his abilities and just focus on smashing the walls. You could play it safe, keeping a safe distance, keeping the field flodded with cannon fodder until you build up to catapults. You could build armored skeletons to basically directly counter blunderbusses, with archers behind them to hit the pikemen. You could swap to the Goblin Shaman hero who does vicious AOE, get the damage reducing ability and have a field day on the pikemen. You could also focus on orcs and goblins with the Shaman's goblin horde ability (increases the damage of all orcs and goblins based on the number of goblins out). You could get the free goblin and free skeleton abilities to keep your cannon fodder up and running for free, while you build up an economy and move towards better units... etc.

Again, this mode is meant to be a challenge. Its a single level "challenge mode", and we know once you beat it, it'll lose its appeal, so we opted to make it tough. We opted to make it something that you might have to really work at to beat. Or heck, maybe you'd just use it as a practice mode for versus to learn the evil side. We didn't want it to be a mode that you pick up, beat on your 3rd try, and call it a day.

Archers and bombers? Because I tried to mix those in, too, with no luck.

I'm going to keep playing until I win, because that's how I roll, but if anyone has any advice, other than the obvious "generate money, keep your cap up, upgrade your hero and repeat" I sure would appreciate it.

I don't hate this mode, fwiw. I hate sucking at it. I'm sure it's fun. Eventually.

Yeah I agree, which is why we aren't going to overreact to balance impressions :p Its meant to be different. We thought it would be more fun to discover a whole new type of game-play...

Yeah you're probably right. Not sure what our rationale was for not having that reward. We talked about it, but it seems like a no brainer NOT to give a tasty reward (rune + gems) for beating the mode...

Also, I just want to remind people I'm not saying Siege mode or versus is perfectly balanced :p Trust me, no one takes balance more seriously than I do, because nothing is more awesome to me than a well balanced, competitive mode. We're listening to all thoughts and opinions, we just aren't going to really dive deep into changes until a few days - I hope you can understand that rationale :)

Well, it would have been a "rage delete" and, with your implementation of manual iCloud syncing, it would have been really easy to put it back on 5 seconds later and get right back to where I was, which is what would have happened.

My bold message of hatred may have been an in-the-moment freak out.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm not quitting until I win. And then I'm doing it again.

Versus is a little borked, just played a Lvl 72 paly who hit for 180+ per swing I maxed my knight out right away but he killed my cultists in two swings and my try in another two and then me in three...was all over in about 30 -60 seconds ..

    Game Impressions

    Please read this :)

My thoughts on 1v1 after playing with a friend right next to me several times.

    1. I really wish there was a siege mode campaign, that would be cool
    2. The Mage and his special units are ugly...(less important)
    3. in the beginning of 1v1, it is impossible to protect your cultists, enemy heroes will have either knock back, or you just can't fight them, my friend with fully upgraded valiant charge had no problem obliterating me if i left the tree.
    4.the spider is really big.
    5. if the enemy is a ranger, just don't get cultists, i tried protecting them with my own body for a while... cultists should not stray so far away from the back line, and maybe they should have more health?
    6. i never tested this but can a paladin turn invulnerable for 20s and then stun enemy champions for 17s? that would be way OP.
    7. enemy giants are extremely hard to deal with, you can't get very much units to handle them until later on.
8.maybe add ranged undead heroes that can be used against powerful melee champions like the paladin?
    9. I understand the reasoning was probably for more stability, but the cap for the undead is pretty low, you can't swarm with cheaper units.
    10. go spider goblin hero against the ranger, get his two passive abilities.
    11. only the mummy hero can survive the knight and his annoying valiant charge.
    12. when playing with my friend, we would agree to not move for 10s so the game wouldn't crash in the beginning.
    13.I HATE GIANTS
    14.this game is fun
    15. the only strategy that worked for me was protecting cultists with body, then get the two free unit summoning abilities and buy a couple of cheaper tankier units to distract. Then save up, get 3 standard bearers and then get lots of the siege wagon things (I can see how those could be imbalanced). It will take a long time to break the walls but at least your cultists will be safer. get a troll and necromancers. when you get lots of money pin the enemy against a wall with the spider until he dies.

CONCLUSION: I think giants and siege wagons are too hard to kill, cultists are too hard to protect. need a ranged undead hero, hero vs hero should be more balanced (less knock back)

I'm running the game on a iPad2 with iOS 6.1, and I'm in Canada with 25 down and 2 upload internet speed. Before this patch, I could play games with people from all around the word, like Japan. The game would be a bit laggy, but I could still finish... but now I'm just constantly disconnecting. I still havent finished a single game in co-op with a disconnect. I also have no other apps running.

I did update 6.0 to 6.1 just before I patched the game.... Hope this helps.
