There is a free version of this game, which is almost the exact same as the paid one, but you only have 1 character unlocked instead of 3. (you just unlock them with crystals you earn in the game). Block Fortress is okay, but I enjoy H&C 100 times more.
Oh yeah, one other thing with this update... I know a lot of "pros" wanted some kind of filter for co-op so you won't get matched up with newer players... well, now you can choose your map on co-op. The catch is that you can only choose the new map (which is much harder) to play co-op on if you've completed the 1st campaign... so basically that means if you want to be assured that you'll be matched up with higher level players that are at least good enough to beat the 1st campaign, you can do that now by playing co-op on the 2nd map.
As others mentioned, try out the lite version. The game for me is the most fun multiplayer. Its the most fun to me when you and your partner click and you can pick up a lot of different strategies. That said, feels like lately, I have a lot of people just keep disconnecting as soon as the game starts..I'm guessing its cause I've started new classes lately at low levels. For what its worth, with my highest level char (lev 51 ranger), I'll play with anyone from any level. And add me to the "Elven Arrows" skill believer. Messed around with the skill this week..and boy..its deadly. Last night paired up with another same level ~50 ranger..and we just took turns using Elven Arrows. Boy was it deadly. Of course, they're only deadly when they're not targeting those scythes armored enemies or whatever.. =P I know I've made believers out of a few people this week when using this skill. I usually save up enough money to build a ton of archer towers and archers at once then activate the skill for the first time each round, so people won't quit on me. I know some people are thinking "what is this guy doing" when they see me first build those. Eventually I knew they believed in the skill when some have even helped build more archers and archer towers after they fell. I'm really look forward to the update, mostly for the memory optimizations. I still get random crashes often enough. Sometimes its after a few longer games...but sometimes its after a few minutes in the first multiplayer game after a hard reboot...
Thank you! I've been saying it for months that Elven Arrows is NOT underpowered - as long as you build you defenses around them It will be even more effective with the new "Hunter" unit.
I just hate how the little kamikaze bomb dudes kill almost all your archers off. Thus I feel forced to build the Dwarf hut and the blunder dudes. And then I might as well build the rifle men because of the huge damage they do + bombs. Oh archers miss all the time, if a unit isn't snared, they will usually miss.
Elv Arrows is Strong, but late game it become more costly to maintain archers than rifleman, now i havent ever had a ranger partner with me (im 56) so the rotating arrows may work nicely but otherwise ill use rifleman just to save me the hassle.
Lol..yeah. Sounds like most people write it off until they witness it for the first time. Can't wait to see the new Hunter unit then to see how it works with Elven Arrows! =) I think thats the beauty of the game...to see how others use different strategies. I used to not build giants & catapults, but now-a-days depending on which character I use and the partner, I build those too. Personally, I can't really tell whether archers normally help much at all without Elven Arrows. But then, I can't even tell if Rifle Men + Longbeard (I think thats the unit) helps much either. =O
Archers are good, but, IMO, they're too flimsy. They die too fast. I prefer Blundies and Riflemen. Pair those up with a Longbeard, Dwarven Hut, and a Forge... Deadly!
I have to admit I came late to this party but I absolutely love it. Anyone have any tips on a new beginner?
Make sure to invest the skill points into actual skill and not just damage. When I first started I didnt even notice they had skills, so I invested every point into pure damage.- Some good stuff on here: http://blog.games.com/2013/02/04/heroes-and-castles-cheats-and-tips/
You are a pro. You're records are pretty amazing at Endless. I'm a semi pro or just under pro I can only go like 30 mins in survival :/
Still... Waiting.... God Apple takes forever! Wish we had a few intoductions with pics at least... Just to quemch our thirst for a few hours... Lol
