Happened to me as well sometimes. Also somewhere through the game, about 30mins in co-op or endless, my thumb gets numb and no matter what I press on the screen, it becomes impossible to touch because the thumb tips get flat and I'm stuck standing in one place for a few seconds while everyone takes a shot at me lol
Yes, they all serve solid purposes when used correctly. The Mages special units serve as solid meatshields with good attack, and the Engineer's special unit compliment the Blunderbuss's just as good. The knight's special unit is practically a one man army in itself, and the Paladin's unit can heal other units. Experiment with them and you'll soon find out that none are a waste of crystals.
Just playing through the normal course of the game, and playing the CO-OP, Endless, Siege, you'll have more than enough crystals to max out everything. Dreadnought is great for protecting catapults, blunderbusses. Turtleman is just a like a super tough pikeman- they are really useful for picking off stragglers who reach your walls.
Game partners? As it seems to be getting more difficult to get a solid coop pairing, which I suppose is a good sign of the game's success at luring casual players - I'm wondering if anyone here would like to set up some matches in coop? I'm flexible on heroes (all except vet are 70+, my engy has 57% build cost reduction w/leg rune btw, my pally is 99 and mostly indestructible), and would like to test 2.1 to see how far high level players can take it. Sadly, after an initial honey moon period, co-op is again unplayable for me. Around 10 minutes in, full everything, i could not longer hit anything or do anything. Could run around and cast spells and attack, but nothing happened. I left for a few minutes, and then by then my partner had dced.
I've had to reboot my device more frequently since the last update, memory use seems more intense, and crashes on complex smoke/battle sequences are more common if I don't keep powering down my iPad. I think RAM isn't cleaning up properly or something along those lines (semaphore/locks/mem manager genius in the house?) Otherwise, the random disconnects have stopped, which is an improvement. On the bright side, by continuing to ramp up difficulty, eventually the game won't get to a point where complex graphical conditions like smoke and explosions exist, lol.
Lagg happened again- got to a point where I could shoot a wraith 15 times and it would just sink into the ground and not die, where you could just see it's head pop out. Maybe it's my internet. Maybe i just can't play at night? I give up
So i should just turn the ipad on and off? Because right after the update it was working great- had a couple long matches. Now
Y'know you're a nice Ranger when you allow the enemy to build everything while you just sit and watch. I still wrecked him though he summoned a troll and a bunch of other things >_> but alas, two shotted his tree and wrecked the army in a minute flat
Yeah, a simple power off ought to help. A hard reset (holding down main+power off button simultaneously until it shuts down) might be even better if you're seeing really lame behavior on the graphics side.

Omg... i just lost for my first time as good. I was my high level paladin which I don't really play as. I'm going to blame the intense lagg and and my sister yelling at me. But still, embarrassing.
Yeah hi, I've been recently playing this quite a bit, and I was wondering in terms what the best class is. I have unlocked them all, like I love the mage, but his abilities I hate, but with the pally and engineer I like their abilities but not their class of weapon if you get me. Opinions are open.
