I wish I could find a good rune. The one I use gives me +5 critical and -8% unit cost

I was really lucky to find the legendary rune, got it while playing multiplayer.
I find that it is much faster to farm runes and crystals through multiplayer. seeing that you are going to be paired up with mediocre/low leveled players a lot, and you would usually only survive for about 3 minutes before collapsing or they disconnect. you get a crystal for finishing a coop game and a chance for runes, most of which i sold for crystals

    Such a great game!

I managed to find a rare rune with 20% crit and -5% build cost. Sweet find for my level 20 Knight to kick ass =D.

    Add me for co-op

    Good game. I'm enjoying it.

It really needs commands though. Simple things like ordering Pikeman to attack armored units only, or peons to stay together, etc.

Also, different equipment to further the customization options. At least different weapons. Weapons with poison, chance to stun, etc.

    Awesome

Just a side note...You four brothers at Foursaken are freaking awesome. You'll are being interactive and helpful at every turn. Like I saw earlier in the forum you'll should teach classes on how to make a solid game and a solid foundation of how developers should be. You'll have been there to answer questions and offer advice / suggestions whenever asked. I know you'll are taking notes on any changes and that makes this game go down for one of my all-time favorites. I will be looking forward to any game you'll put out in the app store from now on. (I did enjoy bug heroes btw) since the game was only 1.99 I will purchase some iAP to help you guys anyway I can so that you'll can keep the awesome going!!!

    Nice Job fellows

About to start the game over with Paladin. Any strategy tips for using Paladin? Skills to upgrade first, units/towers that work well with him?

Well, it depends on which hero you'd like to use, I'd suggest Knight, since the play style with Knight is a bit more straight-forward (at least to me he was :D)

    1. BUILD GOLD MINES. You'll need Gold to continue in any level, so this is very necessary!
    2. Peons are a lot more handy then they may seem. Especially when you can build a Battle Academy and summon Captains. They can help out on a tight spot.
    3. Always keep your walls repaired! Especially if they're wooden! You don't want your walls to go down while you're out fighting.
    4. Pikemen are great for taking out armored enemies, but down let them go alone, they don't have too much health.

Erm... Those are just a couple of my opinions, hope they help! :)

  10. Hey did you guys make this game using unity? Also, would u be willing to help me publish a game if that's the case? Great game btw...

I'm pretty sure its their own proprietary engine they have been refining since at least their first zombie game. Graphics in H&C are very similar to Bug Heroes, and many of their other games. Each game refines the engine and makes it look better and run smoother, but there is clearly a similar root in all of them.

Also, if they had used unity, I think they have to advertise that at the beginning of the app. That's my guess anyway. But my gut says no, its just an in-house graphics engine that has slowly been refined over a couple years of games.

I can see how some may want that, but there is definitely a fine line between "too much" and "too simple", especially for a mobile game. Currently, we feel the same way about combat (and are hesitant to make it much more complex, with blocks and special attacks). One of the reasons we personally thinks this formula works so well is because you're always engaged, but you're not focusing on a bunch of details. I think it could get quite difficult to micro manage your army, or to have an advanced combat system.

But of course, as always nothing is set in stone, and we are definitely open to hearing more discussion and thoughts!

Wow, thanks. Its been a long, sometimes tough road for us, but this sure feels good :D For those who haven't seen, Heroes and Castles is not the #35 game in the US (iPhone), and the #11 game on iPad! We can't thank everyone hear enough for all their awesome impressions, feedback, and support! Now we owe you all some content!

This is actually our own custom "Origin" engine, which we've been building from the ground up for a few years now. Some of our fans may have noticed we've been picking up steam with our releases (our next game Block Fortress is slated to arrive in Feb), and that's in part thanks to the awesome flexibility of our engine. Its not as robust as something like Unity, but we have a lot more control with it ;)

I highly recommend upgrading the skill that makes the cost of summoning new attackers first. After that, you have a couple branches. You can then upgrade the skill that increases damage and health of soldiers, and kinda be turn your hero into a super captain. Alternatively, you can buff his AOE skill and use him as a multi-creature hitting tank.

I play the Paladin as an uber captain, hence I have upgraded attack dmg and reduction cost of newly summoned soldiers.

Honestly, at this point, I am getting the most bang for the buck and entertainment out of the engineer. He kinda started weak, but then I hit this point where I had upgraded enough stuff and I got a fully upgraded mortor tower, and then holy crap, the engineer was just destroying everybody hella fast. 67 gold for a mortor tower.....is AWESOME. Plus the free to summon catapult....engineer can just flood the map with tower damage.

Instead of just beating the game with one character, I am beating every map with every character, building up lots of gems and experience for all my guys, so that by the time I try a new level I'm just kinda mobbin it. I found just using one character to go through the game was really difficult.

IMO, Paladin, much more than the knight, really relies on summoning lots of peons, along with the academy and the blacksmith. Fully levelled up blacksmith, academy, peon, and holy vengeance skill means your peons are doing something like 13 pts of damage per attack, and when yer summoning like 8 peons for 26 gold.....thats a lot of fast damage.

While I like how the paladin attacks many enemies with his swing, its also kinda slow and especially those skeletons with the long swords are really difficult to kill. As a result, flooding the screen with uber power peons is the way to go.

    Last little tip:

With the Paladin, I get my gold to +3 or +4 depending on how fast the enemies are coming. Then I try to control the enemies until I have about 140 gold, which I buy an academy and 1 set of peons. Then i save up money to buy blacksmith and another set of peons. Then its peons+whatever else you want. But this staggering strategy allows you to slowly get max peons without getting overran.

Why not have two opposing castles on the same map? So the objective is to defend and conquer? :)
