This is getting off topic. Mod alert?

  2. So no one buys the Words With Friends ad-free version, right?

I create awesome paper airplanes that I will sell
    Here
Actually this isn't true, I believe. As long as you don't update through iTunes, and you never updated on any device (E.G. it still has your same .ipa file backed up) then it won't add ads when you send it to your device.
Also, I didn't say they Can't I said they won't. Big difference. Gameloft, as a big company, doesn't want two versions of the same game available. Not gonna go into specifics, but for a big company, this doesn't happen. It works often for Indie devs, but I've yet to see Gameloft, EA, Capcom, Sega, etc. do anything like that...
Also: the WwF game requires Internet to play against friends, thus to play you have to have internet, thus see ads
And finally: This thread should probably be closed since this a permanent price drop, or moved to general discussion.

No it's true. Deleted snuggle truck off my iPhone, put it back on after the update, never got the extras. Same would be for ads.

Yeah, cause EA, Sega, Capcom don't update their fully paid games with ads. Gamevil is a good example. They have some fully paid games in the AppStore for awhile and decided to make some of their older games have ads, what did they do? They released a new free version with ads and left the paid version as it is. Again, no reason a company like Gameloft can't do the same thing Gamevil does with their more popular older games.

Alright, I think everyone has had their say (and then some). I understand that some folks are frustrated by this move, and I understand that some folks don't think it's a big deal. Let's keep it civil.

Or like Undead Attack Pinball HD for iPad which I just recently paid to have ads removed.

  9. Ok, you got me there. But you're saying they shouldn't even have the option because some will just turn off their wifi anyway? What does it hurt to have the option? I can only see it as benefitting them, because they might actually make a few bucks off of it *and* not lose the respect of their customers.

for people that say u dont have to update.... Yes, its not a problem as long apple dont make an ios update. Since IOS 5.1 the older versions of brothers in arms and gt motor academy doesnt work anymore with my ipod 4gen. Gameloft has a 5.1 fix BUT only for the curent versions. thats what sucks!

Looks like gameloft listen to feedback - Ads have been removed and version rolled back, and it costs money again.

    full quote from facebook

We are hearing lots of complaints from the fans of Hero of Sparta 2 on iPhone, after the game became free. We believe the gaming experience has been dampened in this new version. With the craziness of the Christmas period, this game update didn’t go through our usual quality process.

Gonzague, our VP, would like to convey this message to all our Hero of Sparta 2 fans:

"Gameloft wishes to apologize to the fans of Hero of Sparta 2 given the poor gaming experience, brought by the free version. We acknowledged the advertisement included into the game deteriorated the gaming experience. We have now completely removed all ads from the game and switch it back to its previous status on the Appstore. Thank you for sharing your feedbacks & for being a Gameloft fan. Happy Holidays and enjoy Hero of Sparta 2”

As I got the game while free...I now have full purchased version for free due to the roll back, without ads. Sure there's probably a few more people who got lucky like myself.

Is that good enough for everyone or is it time to complain that some people got it free and you had to pay for it? (will people ever be happy)

Wow. Good for me I guess although I was just fine disabling wifi to play without ads.

Gonna bump my 4 star to 5.

Now then, I guess all that's left for them is to pull DH3 and replace it with DH: Arena. If this does happen I'll be losing hours of progress, though. :(

Thanks to uniting fellow gamers or consumers fighting to make this happened. Thanks to Gameloft for listening to your fans or customers.

I see all the online Gameloft hate posts, bad feedbacks, and irrate emails over their idiotic decision to put ads in a paid version of Hero of Sparta II got to them. It's good that they got smart about it, but makes me wonder if they will end up pulling this moronic crap on it's paying fans again in the future. Still, this thing makes me think twice about paying full price for Gameloft games again.

Wow, thanks I guess Gameloft. I guess I can go buy Tintin now. ^^
I still suspect this whole thing was a test to see how many people would complain and thankfully, a lot did. If the complaints hadn't been there, I suspect that this ad campaign would have been rolled out across all titles. I notice that Pocket Chef still has ads though.
Thats basic marketing 101 for you - if you have a marketing campaign that may prove unpopular, test it first and see if you can get away with it.

  17. Thank you, Gameloft! Glad to see our feedback made a difference after all.

Obviously Gameloft has learned it's lesson yet.

One of my favs - Brain Challenge 2 - still is ad galore. Looks like Gameloft only changed Hero of Sparta 2 because more people had it before their stupid ass marketing stunt so had more complaints. Same ol' Lameloft.

sorry to get this back, but the game is still not the old version. there is a big gameloft sign in the up right corner.I´m pressing it all the time and it opens a window to more free games from gameloft. sorry, but this ist really crap...I mean, in the main menu ok, but its in-game and allways there. Internet on or off...
