Agree with you. The higher bosses require a lot of cross emblems ready (even before the fight begins) to make sure you have an ample supply to create your shield. This is particularly important for bosses that deal out a lot of debuffs which your shield will protect you from being inflicted. Update: I have since replayed parts of the game and can now confirmed that ALL BOSSES can be beaten WITHOUT using any consumables (that is, NO POTIONS OR CROSSES OF ANY KIND). Among all of the bosses, the toughest boss to achieve this feat is by far the dreaded boss in Cave of the Devil. This is because it deals out stone eyeball every 4 turns and ice crystals every 2 turns which can basically render the board entirely unplayable very quickly if they are not dealt with immediately. Here are the screenshots of this fight. Even playing optimally, my win was by a razor-thin margin. I am truly puzzled as to why the developer chose to make the game this hard. Many of these tactics are outdated designs that are no longer relevant in the current era of JRPG. It hearkens to bygone days when the number of JRPG titles available were very limited so that many gamers had little choice but to stick with them for weeks or even months grinding out every inch of the game. The attention span of most gamers nowadays and the availability of so much other games simply leave no place for this type of punishing gameplay.
Considered I've rage-quit at Tower of Deity at least 15 times now, some with just a sliver of the boss's health left... not sure I have the fortitude to keep going to the final bosses. I'm 28-ish hours in, level 27, Tier 6 on everyone, but just keep getting bodyslammed on the boss fight in Tower of Deity. I'm too far in to care about starting over in casual mode either. I may have to admit defeat on this game. GREAT game, but wish there was a casual mode from the beginning if it's ramped up to be *this* difficult.
yeah, tower of deity mid game is a huge ramp in difficulty. took me a few days before i beat it. did it w/ only two 6th tier emblems. (didn't know you had to heist the other two from bosses.) have you tried using elsa w/ confusion skill? i find that sometimes that will turn the tide in a fight. once you get pass it, the remaining game isn't too bad. you still have to grind a bit for gold/lvls, but nothing like hitting the wall like tower of deity.
That's good advice, and there's also Alston's pulverize with stun. I was having the same issues until going more defense than offense. Tower of Deity is definitely a different animal than the rest. I do disagree that the remainder of the game isn't all that bad. It does even out for a bit but, as previously stated, those gates at the end are merciless!
On the flip side, EVERY friggin' game today is on easy mode rails. This is why games like Demon Soul on consoles gets noticed because it adds that hardcore challenge charm that people have been craving after being fed casual games 99% of the time.
Thanks for the tips, guys. I do have confusion which helps, but I think when he starts turning the elements to stone, I start wasting away by either not being able to get the dps in or the heals. Oh how I wish for more than 4 potion slots haha. Maybe I'll attack it with fresh eyes tomorrow, it was frustrating getting SO.CLOSE. today!
Yeah. I have to agree about The Tower of Deity. I'm at level 25 and 26 and not getting close on this one. It seemed like the grinding needed until now was tolerable. But I find this stage a little absurd. Don't want to invest the time needed to level up 2 or 3 levels just to get past this one. Was a fun game until now. Bummer, as I'm at about 31 hrs invested. Probably won't delete the game. I'll hold out hope that the dev will balance this out in the future. Not holding my breath.
Palace of Darkness Tips Hi guys, I read that many are having trouble with the difficulty of the game. I managed to get through most bosses actually without much trouble. Sometimes I had to try 2-3 times, but never more than that. I believe every single boss has a some sort of weakness; take the Palace of Darkness for example: Blue dragon, Sun Gate - Ice and Vemon works really well. When it hits you with Lightning Stone, watch your health and lose it by getting the stone to the bottom of the screen ASAP. Or simply use an omnipotent cross. Keep looking out for 4-5 matches and he'll go down within 5-ish minutes, really. Black dragon, Moon Gate - This guy's weak against Fire and Lightning. But the secret is Alston's stun skill. Just keep looking out for 4-5 shields and keep him stunned. I didn't even find out what his main attack is. While having him stunned, just keep hitting him with Fire/Lightning skills. You won't need more than 5-10 mins. I didn't use a single potion/cross. White dragon, Star gate - Again, Fire and Lightning works, but Howard's Gravity sword is the key. Keep delaying his turn by stringing 4-5 swords. Magic. Again he didn't do much damage to me. You'll naturally heal enough from the damage taken from the floor spikes. I use a couple of crosses on the enemies before I reached him. But did not spend a single potion or cross on the guy. I used Tier 8 emblems to defeat these bosses and simply farmed (spent just a couple of hours to get the 400k needed for the Tier 9's) - lotsa treasures in these three "gate" levels. There you go, hope that helps!! Good luck and have fun!!
Anyways, just to add, if you wanna farm/grind, do it at the latest dungeon you've cleared. Emblems are first priority. Always get the stun/confuse/gravity,etc. skills and their superior versions as soon as you have extra cash. Mahor grinding is not required for the game IMO. Farming for gold probably is. But you won't have to farm too much if you do it right. I never buy potions or crosses (except omnipotent ones for the linal stage). Just use those you get from stealing (Howard's special Heist skill) and chests.
Ok. I completed the game today on my first try with the last boss. They're (hint hint) all susceptible to normal attacks so it's easier than the three dragons! And he's immune to poison, so my Elsa's special attack was pretty useless throughout. However, Gravity sword works well. So there you go - another easy battle. I didn't use it much though, because I've already racked up 8-9 cross emblems before I got to him. They were all over the place so my only goal was to keep a shield up constantly and making more cross emblems and bringing them together. Ended up getting 7-8 together after spending two more re-activating my shields. He died before I could match any two of them for an all-out special attack Didn't use a single consumable item throughout the final boss battle too. The shield did all the work. Used a cross and a purple potion previously for the monsters in front though (because I didn't want to waste my cross emblems; prefer those to consumables). Completed with Tier 9 emblems. Though I believe it would be as easy with Tier 8's. Note that the jump in weapon/ability points from Tier 8 to 9 is not very significant. So you don't really need Tier 9's, honestly. I completed the game at level 33 for every single character.
Btw, the story's left open for a sequel, I reckon (pretty obvious IMO)! That's so exciting! I'm so gonna buy part two!! Hopefully the story and conversations are much less chessy!
I seem to be stuck after completing the second island. The north sea opened up, a village was complaining about pirates, who I went & killed, and I took out the optional squid boss in the whirlpool in the middle of the sea. However, I've run out of exclamation-pointed-places to go and visit. Where am I supposed to go next?
If you already took out Pirate's Nest, I *think* you need to go back to Sanctus Port and get to the Grave of Ancestors? Here's a link to the bosses - not enough to be spoiler-y but it might help you know where to go next... http://www.appunwrapper.com/2015/01/13/hero-emblems-boss-guide/
Hmph. I cleaned out both routes at the grave of ancestors, still nothing. Starting to think I might have hit a bug...
I remember feeling stuck, or like the world was a bit TOO open at that point as well. That's when I beat conch cave and the other one so early that the bosses wouldn't even appear. I do think it's that location on the farthest west point of the third island you have to beat to move on. Just saw an update for this game in the app store and got all excited. But it's just a save game bug fix, without even fixing the save problem at the end I assume. I did finally finish it 55 hours in, which is crazy considering that I got to the gates at hour 39!
Argh, nevermind. The Sanctus Village cut scene wasn't triggering for me - I kept just getting the shop. For some reason when I visited it just now it worked properly
Yea but I do like the Cleric character. She is really funny at a lot of time. The Sequel is an insta for me.
FFFFINALLY beat the last boss! Took me 9th tier Emblems, a cross and a potion or two, and plenty of patience for shield supers, but I finally did it! Cannot wait for the sequel--thanks for such an engrossing and addictive game
