Caved and bought. Played for about 3 hours this afternoon. Love the music, as someone mentioned earlier, it definitely has a Final Fantasy Tactics vibe to the soundtrack. Presentation is excellent, nice simple animations, world map especially looks great. I'm not normally a fan of broken english in my games, but I can honestly say it lends a certain 'charm' to this. I'm not the biggest 'match-3' fan, but mainly because I've played so many over the years. But this adds just enough in the RPG department that it feels fresh. I, personally, like how you're forced to restart an entire dungeon if you fail. And finally, and this is quite sad, but I actually feel like I'm on the journey along with my little team. I did have the 'language change' bug happen to me once, but it was easily sorted, and the dev has stated it's to be fixed in the next patch anyway. Fantastic and addictive game, and well worth the £2.29p I spent on it.
Some early game tips: Preferably, prioritize upgrading Paladin then healer first for emblems. Paladin is basically your lifeline the entire game and can attack / defend. The healer is going to have the best abilities of the heroes so don't count her out. Her purify is one skill you can't be without. This will remove some of the crazy enemy effects that go on your board. Some enemies later spam them a lot like the minotaur locks up an entire row with his special move. If you're looking for power, healer also has a great skull called upgrade that is a great one to invest in. It will power up a couple items on the board randomly based on the charge level. Again, the healers skills are very crucial to survival.
Damn, all these skills people keep mentioning makes me think I missed a few. I'm already on the 8th emblem upgrades, so going back to replay every area in case I missed something would be insane. Dev, any chance of retroactively adding some kind of marker that tells us if we missed treasure somewhere?
Absolutely brilliant game. I'm not a fan of how much text/story there is early on but It's gotten better as I progress. Massive achievement for a 2 man team. Fantastic product.
So, I went back to get the treasures in Shayara, and I keep dying in the gnome room from the floor spikes. I'm pretty sure my health & shield were nearly full both times, so not sure what's going on. Are we not supposed to choose this room (path A)? Edit: Started again, got to the gnome with full health and shield and the spikes killed me again. I tried to get a shield next to my special emblem in time so I force field would go up, but I couldn't. I'm guessing that's the only way to stay alive in that room? Edit 2: Tried again. This time I got a shield up and still died. So don't choose path A in Shayara Kingdom unless you want to experience this death.
Easy 5 star game, but starting to be too much grinding. I can't get off the first continent. I'm on the last boss and I'm pretty far from being able to beat him, but beating everyone else is too easy. So it's just mindless grinding to beat this one guy. I wish it were easier/faster to get some coins.
Great game but wayyyy too difficult. It is not only playing with strategy. Luck is a huge factor too. I mean i played some areas 3-4 times. There were times that i died easily and times that by luck i achieved 9-10 combos in a row and i did not manage to do that by playing strategically. Just the tiles stacking on each other by luck and forming 3 and 4 rows and my heroes destroyed every enemy. I would rate it 5 stars if the difficulty was just a bit lower.
Yep. Your going to have to grind quite a bit and try and pick up a couple of the 2k emblems. Leveling up is important but I'd rather grind than have IAPs.
I did. http://www.appunwrapper.com/2015/01/10/hero-emblems-review/ Note that since I wrote the review, my play time has gone up to 26 hours. As you can probably tell by now, I can't pull myself away!
Luck always plays a part in match-3 games. But you stand a much better chance at surviving if you pay close attention to the tiles and plan it out as much as you can. As for grinding for gold, it becomes much less of any issue later on. I have 124,000 gold at the moment and nothing to spend it on. All I buy is a few potions and purify crosses when I'm running low. It helps a ton to loot as much as you can. I wish I realized that early on.
OK I need you guys to spill the secret.. I have clocked about 1 plus into the game.. It's no where killing the red devil.. He will freaking kill me in 1 or 2 hits.. Did you guys grind a lot? My team HP is roughly 100 plus and I have very little money like 200 plus after I spent 300 on a stupid poison skill.. Tell me the secret else I'll quit playing...
As far as luck factor involved is concerned, same can be said with any other match-3. Puzzle Quest itself was a hot topic especially about how it has multiplayer, and everyone was complaining it was all luck. However in Hero Emblems i feel this isnt much the case. There are only 4 icon types, so that means there is always a match to make, and 4-of and 5-of are a lot more common. I'm curious if you can manage at least 2 5-in-a-line (i'll call it 5i to make it easier to type out) match in every boss fight? That usually seals the win when you match the 2 together in most of the bosses. Hero Emblems is more skill-based by allowing you infinite amount of time to plan out your moves to get a few 5-in-a-rows each fight, coz they are keys to winning. Of course luck is still always a factor in match-3s, but if you cant consistently make opportunities for 5i matches instead of matching 3 and waiting for lucky chains, then you arent really doing much to improve your odds at winning boss fights in Hero Emblems. If you're just waiting for chains to happen, then Hero Emblems might not be for you, especially that it just gets harder and harder the farther you get into the game.
I didn't really grind a lot to kill him -- I think I just did the previous dungeon once over. What worked for me was 1) having 4 potions available; and 2) saving my crosses till the boss fight so I could keep up a super-skill shield. Also, make sure that Howard and Elsa both have fire skills equipped -- the red demon is vulnerable to flame attacks. Hope that helps!
Skills are low priority purchases, focus on emblem uogrades. Save at least one 5 match emblem to put up a shield during the fight. Use hp and dp items, save them for the boss fight. Don't kill an enemy until you need to, focus on recovering while their timer counts down when they are low on health.
