No. We were talking about a couple of weeks for all six games together. That's still what I expect it to take---it's about the same time for me to play 4 games as 6 games.
You're the one who seems to be keeping the argument going. Planning to start after the update so there's no problem with the timing.
i don't understand the 6 is as much as 4 counting.. but 1+1 isnt always 2 so apparently every ones math is completely different hehe h_ no honestly, why is your post count zero? i see a few of thoose here and there and its odd.. maybe ask the janitor to clean it up.. so new map, new race, auto resign, game center (possible a ladder?) .. i'm excited..
I think it has to do more with opportunities in which you set aside some time and get into right frame of mind and play out your moves against your opponents. I obviously need more time against more opponents, but it isn't exactly additive. The first opponent invites the requirement of time and focus, while subsequent opponents in that play session would only require small additions of time and focus compared to the initial investment.
Posts in the MMO code sub-forum don't add to your post count, due to people spamming their codes to bump their post count. So if someone only posts in this sub-forum, their post count will stay at zero.
@zinc: ahh interesting ... didn't know that.. .. talking into the void keeps you at zero posts.. but a nice idea.. @narziss: well maybe thats true .. coming from a very hectic line of work switching focus was never a problem, which is common if your work is heavily intertwined with the work of others.. hehe a good way to learn this would be to start smoking.. the urge for that won't let you keep focused for long a single task anyway.. hehe ;D Edit: news on the update and the balancing changes http://www.robotentertainment.com/blog/detail/MMM-Hero-Academy-Update-Inbound
Personally, if I had to switch my attention every five minutes, I could certainly do it. It's just not good for productivity and sustained effort. I mean, really, everyone's life is different, I don't think it's surprising that there are people who don't want to drop whatever else they were doing, ten times a day, to play Hero Academy. One of the main things I've learned from others over my adult life is the value of focus and time management, and reducing distractions. I may still not be good at it, but I'm better than if I let it be a priority to play Hero Academy whenever I get an alert!
I still can't understand why they don't see the importance of a better player matching system. Example, this discussion about how some people like to play faster and some slower. And auto-forfeiting games doesn't help you avoid getting into matches with people who auto-forfeit games. I also think they are way off about nerfing the Shadow, it doesn't matter that much though.
well i would like to see a third play button implemented for ranked games against equally skilled players , so the chance to play a game against a new (free to play) gamer who quits the game after loosing a game is minimized as for the shadow nerf.. like mentioned in the official forum thats due to the monks buff. i have yet to see someone really benefiting from shadows.. but since barely anyone plays de anyway.. its no wonder..
I'd like a solution that doesn't require me to sign up to yet another website, preferably something from within the app. It's now the 22nd, it has been for over an hour, where are my dwarves?!
+1 and wrong timezone @ h_: honestly i want an integrated ladder not a third party solution.. could not find the rules of the league.. do you need to sign in before you can check if you even like their rules? how is match-making done? by hand? how are results communicated? by hand? if yes.. then its really a feature robo should implement.. for example i like the way cabals implemented their ranked gaming.. this is something that imho should be done by the devs.. and then maybe some extensive statistics..
Robot actually advertised the league in their blog, so it seems they recognize that it will remain the best alternative available for some time. You need to sign-in and request admission to the group to see the content, which shouldn't be a big deal. Match-making is done through the forums. The results are communicated in this really nifty database that does all the elo-calculations automatically and displays a leaderboard.
I think the problem is that they should be doing something in between completely random pairings and a ladder based on Elo ratings and extensive player rankings. Neither of those extremes appeals to me, and I think I'm in pretty good company. It's discouraging to me that they are promoting the ladder, because that indicates that they see that as the solution for the 200 players who are attracted to such things, and they aren't thinking about a solution for everyone else.
Whats wrong with play ranking on an elo system? In cabals you can choose how you want to play. You can ignore the ladder completly if you just want to have some casual fun. Such a list would be interesting even for non competive player since they then could make direct matches with top dogs to learn a thing to two. Some simple privacy settings and you have a comfortable way for all hero players to compete against each other if they wish to.. I also would like to chat with people before a match starts and a non facebook friends list.
I think the League totally solves the rated play issue, except that the masses that dont go to the forums dont know about it. Robot is reportedly still pondering rated play. I would like it if they would plug the League as a news item inside the game, but I am not sure we could really handle the crush of new members that would produce. We still have to add new members manually, answer questions, remove double posts and, unfortunately, disputes and cheating will be an issue at some point, even though we havent seen either yet. Its really not very burdensome with 224 members, but 1000+ would be another story. Anyway, back on topic, lets start Round 3 on Saturday, ok? Rules as previously announced. 3 man round robin, 2 games -- simultaneous -- with each player. No dwarves. I think we decided no new map as well - just reset if you get it.
It's too competitive for my tastes. Puts too much focus on who's winning and who's losing. I think there's an enormous audience for a matching system that has a few tiers, where you can distinguish between more experienced and less experienced players (i.e., what you need to have competitive matches), as well as things like who likes to play faster and who likes to play slower, but doesn't give everyone precise numerical rankings (and therefore tie people's egos to where they rank). Even if your algorithm has an Elo-type rating system behind the scenes, I think many more people would prefer a system where the actual ratings aren't published, you only see where you rank in broad terms. Another big difference in achievement-type systems (which are very popular in gaming these days) from rating-type systems is that you can only go up, you never go down. You could have tiers in HA, and match with people who have attained a similar level, without adversarial elements like, when I beat you your rating goes *down*.
Yes, ok. There is only the one new map, with the teleporters? I'm still surprised they don't create a lot more maps.
