Hey folks - I'm Justin from Robot Entertainment. This tournament is a great idea! How about I throw in a Robot Entertainment prize pack for whoever wins the tournament? Robot hats and shirts, and some in-game content for the winner (this will vary depending on what the winner already has purchased). I'll even throw in a Hero Academy shirt (these aren't even available to the public!) Sound good? EDIT: Also, do you guys mind if I promote this out a bit on our social network outlets to find more players? Or would you rather keep this to "local" TA members?
I'd like to join as well, nick: krypton Thanks for organizing this ArtNJ, and to Justin for offering the prizes.
Sure Justin, that sounds great. We'll hold the tournament open say another 5 days or so or until we get 21 players (7 person brackets, each person plays 6 games per round, 3 rounds -- i.e. everyone will play everyone once, 1/2 point buy if an odd number drop). Looks like we are up to 8 or so folks already. Sound good? If I'm going to run the tournament, I'll have to forego a shot at the prize, but that is ok -- you can give me a promo code for your next game. Or you can take over the administrative element if you want too, I dont mind. By the way, I think its fine for you to play in the tournament as long as you do it openly and are not eligible for a prize. In fact, I think it would be great if you do so.
would be interested if the numbers of players would swell a bit more.. a tournament between a handfull players is not much fun.. so kudos if robo entertainment can stirr some additional contestants into the pot.. un: macish would a simple knockout tournament not be alot easier and especially faster? min. 1 move a day across 21 players and a multitude of games.. this can take ages especially if robo entertainment pushed the event a bit and the numbers of participants could rise alot.. *shrug* knockout sounds like an easy and fast way.. loose and your out.. win and you go one..
Nope, elimination tourney for just 16 people takes 4 rounds; we are playing a 3 round "round robin" style tournament. Single elmination is also way more luck based. Its pretty easy to play 5 games at a time (I have over 10 going and I work long hours), so no reason to hinge elimination on just one game.
We are up to 13 players -- I am now aiming for 18 or 24, so we can have either 3 or 4 groups of 6 in each bracket. If we have 18 players, I think we will play a pure 3 round "round robin" style tournament. If we have 24 players, I think we will play a modified round robin, with the 3 bottom finishers in each round robin group of 6 players eliminated prior to round 2. If we have a lot more than that, I may ask for help from someone to handle half the bracket.
