What is the Tokyo Game Show? The Tokyo Game Show, commonly known as TGS, is a video game expo / convention held annually in September in the Makuhari Messe, in Chiba, Japan. It is used by many international video game developers to show off their upcoming games and game-related hardware. Unlike E3 it allows the general public to attend during the final two days and as a result, it has much higher attendance than E3. Around 180 companies and 180,000 people are expected to attend. When is the Tokyo Game Show? This years show will take place over a four day period from September 16 to September 19. What to expect? On the one hand every publisher attends the Tokyo Game Show and all current platforms (including PC) are present. On the other hand, the Tokyo Game Show has always kind of been a Sony event so much of the news will be for Sony platforms (although other platforms will still get a good shout out). Also: lots and lots and lots of 'booth babes' and cosplay. Plus, lots of weeaboos. What not to expect? Anything from Nintendo (they never attend TGS), but also for this year nothing on 3DS, even from third-parties. The 3DS is having its own specialised show on September 29. It is likely third-parties will be saving all their 3DS "bang" for that show. THE BIG STUFF (oh yes, stuff) THAT IS EXPECTED / RUMORED
Wow, there'll actually be some FFversusXIII news. Seriously, they announced that title way too early.
Heh, so yo're hoping Sony isn't truly stupid then?... Well, I hope that as well. But look at their past muckups, for Sony to do the obvious thing nowadays is expecting too much from them.
Not happening, especially with all the cash they've been spending on Marcus campaign trying to revitalize the PSP.
I'll be updating the first post with more info when I have time later, including (if I can find any) some announcements for iPhone titles. I refuse to believe that considering the amount of companies attending TGS there won't be some notable titles for the platform there.
This is cool, cheers for the thread. Some of us have hardly any time to search and read loads of game sites, so it'll be good to have this to come to when I have a quick break.

All I care about is a possible PSP2, Nintendo's handheld isn't really doing it for me yet. At least not with the games announced. If Sony doesn't come with a PSP2, I might have to consider a second gen. iPad or something. As you can tell, I'm just begging one of these companies to please give me a reason to give them my money.
Updated the first post with more games that will be in playable form at TGS, including "Catherine" the first HD title from the developers of the Persona series. Oh, and a BIG rumor of a whole new game from Kojima, a PlayStation 3 exclusive. This secret title was intended to be shown at E3 but this plan was scrapped literally at the last minute. It is now said it will make its first showing at the upcoming TGS. So, what will it be? A whole new IP or perhaps the long-wanted ZOE 3?
Also, the devs at Capcom have said that they'll be annnouncing 4 new games at TGS, as well as some new Marvel vs Capcom 3 characters. The recently released cinematic trailer for MvC3:
Uh oh, looks like Devil May Cry 5 will be revealed at TGS. Why the "uh oh", then? Well... 1) Some months back there was a rumor of a DMC game by Ninja Theory (Heavenly Sword) 2) Capcom just put in a DMC trademark, hinting at a new Devil May Cry game 3) Ninja Theory has just revealed a new game by them will be revealed at TGS A Devil May Cry developed by Ninja Theory? Can't say thay inspires the utmost confidence.
Well, the reason why it's a seemingly ill-match is DMC (whatever your opinon of the series is) has an accomplished, highly technical combat system. Indeed, that seems to be the biggest strength of Japanese developed action / fighting games. Heavenly Sword and the like (God of War, etc) are, well, simple when it comes to the combat systems. Western development studios have not been able to accomplisha high technical level when it comes to combat systems, from fighting games in the 90's to action games of now.
That is true, could they not keep the same combat system though? I don't think Capcom would allow them to ruin the game in such a way.
