My ipod chord (the one that gets my apps from my itunes to my ipod) isnt being picked up by my itunes!! what do i do!!

also at the point where the line goes into that rectangular shape, the rubbery bit has broken off from the rectangular bit.

Yes, some of the wire is exposed. It isn't dangerous, but I wonder if it has anything to do with why iTunes won't pick up my iPod :(

Mines been like that for a few months, but iTunes still picks it up.
If you have a family member with another cord try theirs, and see if it's the broken cord or not causing the problem.

You can go on Amazon and get a new one for $1. Better yet go to Monoprice.

Yep, same thing happened to mine, I took it to an Apple store to get it replaced.

I could get mine to at least charge by fiddling with the connection, try bending the wire up or down and side to side near the connection. I don't recommend syncing like that though, it can cause a lot of issues (wiped the music off my ipod, generally confused my itunes)
If you're desperate to install a new app, download it straight onto your ipod.

edit: and the exposed wires aren't at all dangerous

The same thing happened to me, when it does I just push the home button on my iPod and iTunes starts up.
