I recently received a $50 iTunes giftcard, but I have a UK account. To use the giftcard, is it as simple as changing my account info from a Uk account to a US one? Of so, will it be easy to switch back to UK? Thanks, any help really appreciated

I've had the same situation a couple of times. I couldn't be bothered setting up a second iTunes Account in USA (with future updates then coming from two app stores), so I used the TouchArcade social group for exchanging promo codes:

You can advertise in that group, inviting people to make you offers. This enabled me to swap $10 US cards which only work in the US app store, with game promo codes which work anywhere. This might be a bit harder for you, since the value of your US card is higher.

This wouldn't be a problem if Apple allowed gifting between App Stores. In this networked world, it's frustrating to have artificial barriers constructed by corporations... especially by IT corporations.
