As a huge NH fan, I think I can safely point you in the right direction here. NH is not complicated per se, but it might be a good idea to start first with some of the Herr Knizia titles you mentioned. Those would be perfect building blocks toward eventually enjoying NH.

NH, at its core, has a pretty simple engine. But it does introduce concepts such as initiative, movement, and unit facing into the mix; the combination can often seem a bit overwhelming for newcomers. OTOH, it has a good tutorial system and pop-up information is available at any time for all of the units, so it's not like the developers just drop you in the ocean without a life-jacket.

Neither NH or the Knizia games fit the description outlined in the first post...

And yet the guy who wrote that post just bought a bunch of Knizias.

    It's on the previous page.

Don't know the Dungeon Raid, but I'm sure that Bejewled will not be a good option because it needs some attention to finish the game in limit time. It doesn't like other puzzle games that with no timer.

He said his wife played Bewjewled, and he had mentioned PuzzleQuest.
Dungeon Raid is a mix between the 2, but no time limit.

So yeah, I batted out seriously with every one of the Reiner games. I LOVE them, but she isn't into it. I thought I might be able to turn her with the slow pace, but damn. I'm still trying, but I think i went too far for me with picking them.

I do think, however, my chance at pointing her to Highborn might pay off. She's enjoying it quite a bit and there's multiplayer. Win.

So if she isn't into Samurai, NH is a no go. Tichu is uber complex and it's going to require me learning the he'll out of it first.

Needless to day, dropping $15 on games that are only for... Me, well... Ah, I'll survive ;)

But I do know I went way away from my initial comfort zone with the board games, but that was because she LOVED Carcassonne.

Bejeweled has classic and endless modes, y'all. She doesn't play the blitz mode.

I'm going to point her towards dungeon raid, she might like it.

I think I've spoiled her on carc. She just loves the building, the relaxed nature.

I know I ask much, but any other thoughts... :)

I know it is shameless self-promotion, but I'll suggest you check out my game 180. It's got a ton of great response from both men & women, it's one of those games which starts off really quickly and has a very simple mechanic - if you spend 10 minutes with it you'll learn "all the moves to the game," but if you play it for an hour you'll start getting sucked into the deeper world of strategy like any great puzzle game :)

And to the OP, I'll go you one better - spend a buck on my game, if your wife genuinely doesn't like it after 10 min of playing then I will gift you any $1.99 app of your choice, if you have a US account :)

    Well damn.

That is one hell of an interesting idea!

I might just look into that. Huh, you guys worked on Might and Magic, wouldn't that be the most epic of epicness on an iDevice ;)

Even if I disliked it, though, how could I ask a dev who is willing to offer that, to do that?

Just make me M&M and keep creating interesting puzzle games ;)

M&M would be amazing on iOS.. maybe someday! such a game is a bit out of the reach of my resources right now. Advance Wars-type game would be fitting as well :)

How about time management games? :) They can be a little hectic but some find them addictive and fun. Cooking Dash, Diner Dash and Ranch Rush are some good ones that fall into this category.

Bust a Marble and Saqqarra are the best options for u from all the ones that were listed in this thread, great games!!

Also, guys please only post universal apps or ipad specific apps, iphone only apps look bad when blown up...

I think those will be good "waiting in the car" games, but not for at home.

I got the iPhone version for free when it went on sale and I enjoy it, as do my kids, even if they suck at it.

I really like Saqqarah, as does she. But it's in my appshopper list, waiting for another sale. I mean, it was down to just under $2 in December. It's hard to pay almost full price.

Bust a marble is being heavily enjoyed by my kids a bit more so than my wife. Too much time focus, but awesome game. Seriously.

180 is still on the table, she hasn't tried it yet.

Lastly, Kingcobra, I understand that you don't want iPhone apps here, but as this is my thread, I ask that you don't write an app off for being am iPhone app.

Look at Peggle and Bejeweled, both of those are iPhone only and are seriously the bomb when it comes to her favorites.

Frick I wish they would release another expansion to Peggle.

You know, I causal game I think everyone might like is Dizzy Pad. It's just so well amusing and fun.

Might also try rolando 1 because it's just delightful.

Yeah, I was going to say that. Sally Spa is the one I would get.

My daughters like Rolando and dizzy pad, but my wife won't.

Too much focus is needed, not enough just relaxed, continuous gameplay.

I found wordsmith for her and I think she likes it. That's at least something else, right? :)

Time management won't work for her for the same reasons as above.

I really appreciate all the ideas, even if they don't work out.

Ive found quite a few games I really like out of it. Addicted as all heck to Tichu now, even though I am terrible at it. :)

Ok, these are about as good as they get:

Bookworm (Sounds PERFECT for her, my mom likes it)

Disc Drivin' (Periodic play, slightly passive, not much thought)

Cow Trouble (fun, easy to get the hang of)

Hope she finds one or more of those useful and fun. :)
