Eurgh. That card back sends a shiver down the spine. Don't like weird eye stuff :-/ Hyped for the next expansion though, feels like another shake up is due for this game. I might revise my opinion once I get around to realising how knackered my existing decks are once Goblins vs Gnomes is properly removed...
The 3 latest reveals: - Not too excited about Hogger... meh. - Sandworm is really neat, except for the fact that there's no such thing as a "control hunter" in the meta... YET. Perhaps this could spark the rise of a good control deck finally for the class. - Eater of Secrets... not too great for Standard IMO. Even if it eats one secret, a 3/5 for 4 is DECENT but nothing groundbreaking. Against a deck with no secrets however, it's just a wasted slot. This one's clearly going to be better in Wild, not Standard.
I wish I had that card right now, just to use against secret pally right after the mysterious challenger drop, lol. How useful it will be in standard, though? Too soon to tell. I'm hoping for a whole new slew of secrets in the expansion, though. The ones now can hardly be called secrets, as they are all so predictable.
So that's 9 mana for a 6/5 and a 2/2 with Taunt ... seems like a weak turn. I think it will be a much better fit in Warrior decks, with an Armorsmith / Acolyte / Patron down + whirlwind.

Got excited by the update so I booted the game up again. Died three times in a row with my tiny level 6 deck and was facing decks with legendaries. Game is just not fun anymore. Too much meta-gaming going on instead of good, clean fun where people who enjoy the game but don't have the advanced strategies can play against others who are just playing for fun. Grats to those of you who have kept up and maybe done so without spending a bit of coin. It's disheartening to play for me though, especially after hearing the $20 I spent on the Naxx cards will just be forgotten instead of balanced for fair play, and if I want to use them I'll be forced to play against even more unbalanced strategies. *sigh*
Question: Were you playing in ranked or casual? I ask, because I've talked to quite a few people that start out and jump into casual, rather than ranked. It's the worst thing a new player can do. If you were playing in casual, then give it another shot in ranked. It's a much, much better experience than casual.
While games like Hearthstone or Magic can be fun for a few weeks or months because you may have a semi-decent deck built up, chances are it won't fare well for long for several reasons: - Balancing changes occasionally made by Blizzard - New cards introduced every few months As a result of the above, the 'meta' (or current state of the game and ongoing trends) keeps shifting constantly. Hearthstone does require a serious investment, either in terms of money or in time. I chose money (as many others have) since ample amounts of gaming-time aren't on my side. For others however, the thrill of grinding out wins to earn gold, to in-turn earn more packs to open better cards is what keeps them going. While Hearthstone is extremely fun and rewarding, it simply isn't a game you can put down today and play again 3 months later. While your deck may be competitive at least, your understanding of the current meta and how to counter the decks being played would simply not be there unless you brushed up on the basics again via YouTube or other fan-driven sites. Ranked is worse than casual for a beginner, thanks to Gold Portrait farmers lurking around the 20s who forcefully concede half their games to build up ranked wins. Not to mention, the meta is a lot more stale on Ranked than it is on Casual IMO... you see a lot more fun decks and varied cards being played on Casual since it's a "nothing to lose" mode. I've hit Legend 4 times since I started playing Hearthstone about 20 months ago, and enjoy Casual a lot more than Ranked personally Hit me up on KiranB#1453 if you'd like to play some friendly matches sometime or just chat up a storm.
So, uh, hypothetically, if someone was considering playing casually every three months or so, which means investing money instead of time in order to stay current with the more frequent players, are there preferred packs of cards to buy - guessing Classic, since they'll always be playable in any format? I see they've added the 'deck recipe' function, have any of the experienced players here tested it to see if it puts together decent decks out of your available cards? I only played Hearthstone for a couple of weeks after it first came out, so I don't have many cards to speak of, but was hoping the new deck editor could put together decks better than my limited brain could....
While I like this new deck recipe system, as far as I can tell it doesn't really analyze your available cards to give you your best options but simply provides 3 recipes for each class and lets you know how many of that deck's required cards you have. The one potentially tricky bit is that if you're short a few cards from the indicated recipe it can offer up suggestions as to which cards from your collection you can use to substitute for them (I'm assuming it factors in both that card's function in the given deck as well as its mana cost). I used it to create a "Tide of Murlocs" deck for my Paladin, and although I was missing the indicated legendary, it suggested a decent alternative legendary to fill that gap. I assume everybody gets the same recipe options, right? Like do all of you also see the option to create a "Tide of Murlocs" deck as well for your Paladins?
Shoot, I guess the recipe for 'Classic' is a set 30/30 cards selection, then. I was hoping it would create a best deck scenario using 30 of the cards I already have, not just offer three recipes - I would think that the Classic deck would do that and then have two 'theme' decks which maybe would be the same for everyone - not all three. But yes, for Paladins the deck recipes I see are Classic, Dragons of Justice and Tide of Murlocs. (Although for those last two I only have 4/30 cards, so it will be a while before I ever see how they are actually supposed to work, lol)
Simply begin to create a new deck, choose a class and RIGHT THERE you'll have a choice to go with a pre-designed or 1 of the 3 pre-designed dealies.
For new player or just those with limited collections it may be worth seeing if the new expansion brings more accessible competitive decks. There is talk that because a new legendary and some supporting cards will be given away free that this will form the basis of a decent starter deck. And one that isn't just be pure aggression. It's something the game needs to survive and lower the currently intimidatory experience for new blood. As a relative veteran I am happy a large chunk of my collection will be rotated out of the 'Standard' mode if it shakes the meta up and brings more diversity. Much typo, apologies on mobile.
Seem to be some bugs with the recipe system. I made a deck with it and saved it but there's an error in it, and I can't edit or delete it so it just sits there with a big red X through it. Also, something else funny -- I fought a Mage deck and the player used the druid spell Claw on Jaina, giving her an attack without a weapon. Now I don't mean to be finicky, but dang! I wish my mage could do that in World of Warcraft...
