I love my iPad mini. I still think the iPad is an excellent buy, especially for people who want the ease of an iPod on a larger screen. However, I find the compactness of my iPod touch absolutely awesome. I love it.
I still appreciate my iPod. I use it for a lot of stuff besides games (I even have history outlines on it and sparknotes I don't even have to pay for thanks to a couple apps), but after seeing RTS, boardgames, Warpdrive, and Touch Grind pop on them, I kinda want one. Especially after playing with one yesterday. Thing is, it'd just be a gigantic toy, and I'd look like a douche if I somehow put all my textbooks on it and brought it to school everyday.
Nah, douche is pretty versatile (while nerd and geek both have their separate yet unique meanings that're still used today). It can range from someone that spend 5 hours everyday at the gym, or someone that'll bring their expensive Apple toy to school instead of carrying the books like everyone else. Having the iPad just makes you look like a spoiled brat, is what I'm saying. Especially to those that stil use iPods from 4 years back.
Has the iPad hype made you appreciate your iPod/iPhone even more? Not at all. What it has done is make me realize that it seems to be a great replacement for my 1st Gen Touch! I appreciate the portability of the Touch, but I think I am going to appreciate the big, beautiful screen on the iPad even more...
iPhone - phone, music, games, internet carried in your pocket. iPod - music, games in your pocket iPad - a huge toy, cool to mess around with at home, a friend's house, or in your car, and for the bigger screen. Not cool to take most places.
Add ebooks, video, notes, and calculator. I use my iPod as a calculator all the time. I'm sure video looks way better on the iPad, but I couldn't see myself holding it up to my face for more than an hour. I couldn't see myself trying to use an iPad on a crowded train either.
