I know a few people that'll watch it, but for me I just don't seem that interested, although I did like the first Harry Potter movie.
I saw it at 12. Two screens were full which is impressive for my cinema. My sister is really good friends with a girl who works there so she saved seats in the middle at the back for us.
All 13 shows at 12:00 are sold out at the theater where I live. It's only 9:30 here right now, but a few friends got in line at 8:30 and said the crowd was huge there already and that everyone was dressed up. Lol, hope it's not packed in the middle of the day tomorrow.
I'm just glad it's over, perhaps people will shut up now. They way some of those fans go on about it you'd think there haven't been any good childrens books written since 1997 when in fact they've just fallen prey to the unbeliveably bad state the publishing world has gotten itself into. The only way a good book will ever get noticed is either by investing an insane amount of money, being famous already, or getting incredibly lucky. We think the App Store is bad for developers, yet authors have been going through this hell for years. Harry Potter is not the best thing to happen to children's literature, it's just helping to mask the problem even more.
I agree...with absolutely nothing you have just said. I remember in middle school how excited we would be just because Prizoner of Azkaban had just come out and everyone had reserved it. I started reading HP right around that time. And I used to read other children's book too like Treasure Island (the children's edition), Mathilda and stuff like that but to me, and most likely to many others, they just didn't have the same feeling the Harry Potter series did. I know this is entirely subjective but I consider the whole series the best novels written period. Why? Because those were the books that made me pick up and read other books. And that's an amazing thing and I know other people feel the same. And the other thing is, yes you do need to get lucky to have your book published, read by people and make a lot of money out of it but how is it different to let's say App Store? I still see great apps that only get a few downloads because people just tend to ignore them since it's not published by a company they know or the screenshots look stupid or it's higher than the standard 99c prize point. That's just life I suppose. I wonder what your solution to that problem would be. And I also wonder if you actually read the books or just watched the movies because that makes a difference on how you perceive the series. The movies are crap. Period. Even the new one. It was about 2 hours and it was made to make money. The books are just a lot better.
There will always be people who blindly hate anything that is extremely popular, without even having an idea what the thing is. It just makes them feel so much better that they can hate hate hate. Harry Potter series was excellent, no one can possibly deny that, unless you can somehow defy logic and say J.K. Rowling is a very poor woman and most people who bought her 7 books hated them. No other children/teen's book has such complex plot, exciting action and suspence. The only thing you can say is that you didn't like it, because either you didn't understand it, have some prejudice against the British, or hate anything that has to do with wizardry. Then that's not the book's problem. The movies don't really do the books justice. Every movie so far has been pretty terrible, I would have absolutely no idea what is happening unless I read the books first, since they cut out so many things, most of the actors were terrible and acted with basically no emotion, and the whole thing felt like "this is what happened, then this, then this, then this, then finally this" to get through the book within 2 hours. They might as well put page numbers in the movie, since it's so dependent on the book with no twists or creativity at all.
It's weird how people react to Harry Potter. Some people behave as if adult's arent supposed to read the books. Which is so prejudiced. I for one feel that Harry Potter is one of the best written protagonists. Someone who is significantly weaker than the villain, or even his peers, has no clue how to beat the villain, but manages to sustain the fight because people around him, his friends, give him the strength to. And in turn, these friends draw strength from Harry Potter. It's a brilliant thought. And the whole story line is extremely intricate. ANd you are right, the movie just don't do the books any justice... though I do like the actors for most parts (apart from perhaps Neville and Luna. Their casting is simply wrong.) I wish they had made a TV series out of the books. That would have been fun.
I really enjoyed the novels. I should probably read through them again to pick up all the nuances. But all the movies as of late have been... blah.
also factor in that one agent dropped her and 8 publishers turned her away with Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone.
Just got back from the movies. Harry Potter was great, honestly, it was great. This one comes closer than any of the others so far to the level of the books. Went with my girlfriend, and I was literally about to break down by the end of the film. Read my first Harry Potter book in second grade, and now, I'm going to college in a month. It's been awesome getting to see how everything turned out. No doubt, this will always be my favorite series as far as fiction literature is concerned. Going to read the last book before summer ends for sure. In any case, it's been a great run Harry; a competent conclusion to a great franchise.
