Arrr, matey! Shiver me timbers! Avast! On behalf of pirates everywhere, I'd like to say: I can't wait to play this! Will Cannon Beach be unlocked to start or will we need to have all 3 original maps unlocked to play? I need to step up my game if it's the latter.
The new map is challenging. That little piece of land at the bottom is enough to cause a bit of havok and with boats from the middle port having to pass across the other 2 ports or try to get offscreen in the lower corners, there is a lot to keep track of. It is a challenging map. The pirate boats are kind of underwhelming. I've had ships sunk, sure, but it just seems like there isn't any urgency to deal with the pirates when they come onscreen. You get to it when you get to it. I think the pirates would be much more dangerous if 1) they came more frequently than they do and 2) they moved faster. All in all, I like the new map. I find myself crashing boats at the screen edge (right side, right where the land starts) more often than I think is right, but it may be because the map is a bit chaotic due to the geometry of the ports as mentioned above.
This looks like a great update & perfect new challenge for Harbor Master. My wife & I are both excited about it!
I can't wait to play it. I'm also glad to see a unique twist on this game. Gives it something special over other game of the same genre.
My guess is that this update will pass through because the recent major update release was all the 3.0 app switcheroo deal so things should go back to normal, so maybe a week? Anyway, can't wait. Never went back to flight control like I am with this...
Me too. I've noticed the boats are random here (where they come from off screen) where as in FC the planes are not random or so it seems to me, to be the case.
Hey dudes, Thanks for all the nice words So we're still working out the pirate mechanic to make sure it's really fun. Getting some great feedback from the beta testers on this one, as always. Still trying to submit the update in the next couple of days, as long as more fireworks and barbecues don't interfere
Check it out. Cannon Beach just got a cannon. We're still tweaking the game play, but at the moment, you need to aim the cannon at the pirate ship and draw the cannonball's path to shoot and sink it. The explosion is very satisfying
So if one of our boats crashes into a pirate ship, do we lose? Is there something we lose by letting the pirates sink ships, other than possible cargo? Seems like there'd be a benefit to having a pirate ship show up, if the entire screen were filled with ships. Now, if you took the number of cargo units they sank off our total score, then I would feel more motivation in getting rid of the pirates.
We're still tweaking it (but still trying to submit within a day or two). Right now, we've changed it so that a pirate stops a full ship, steals all its cargo, then submerges (it's a pirate submarine). So pirates are bad because: 1. You're not going to get any cargo (points) for that ship 2. You have a big obstacle on your map when the ship is being boarded. Fortunately, you can shoot the pirate with the cannon to avoid that scenario. Will let you know if anything else changes over the course of the day
Can you see the sub's shadow while submerged? That alone doesn't seem like a big deal, since more is always coming. But... ...this would certainly cause trouble.
You definitely want to kill those pirates every time. It's annoying to have a ship enter your map, but not get any points for it (if a pirate takes all your cargo). You definitely end up cursing the pirates if that happens Yup - after the ship is robbed, you need to drag the empty ship off the screen to get it out of your way. I just played it a bunch, and it's a lot of fun. It throws a new mechanic on top the existing one, so you really need to stay focused to deal with the ships AND the pirates
natty, what about this: The amount of cargo the pirates steal subtracts from your total? EDIT: make us really want to bomb the hell out of 'em, arghh!
I like the idea that the amount of cargo stolen subtracts from your score a lot better than the way your describing it. Maybe what could happen is that a pirate appears on screen, pulls up to the side of a cargo ship, boards the ship, sinks the ship, points are subtracted, and then the pirates go after other ships until it is bombed. That way there is more urgency to get rid of the pirate ship as quick as possible.
Hmmm - my instinct is that it would be just too sad to watch your score decrease. We'll play with it. But the pirates are definitely annoying enough as they are (arrr...). Plus, sinking them is fun
