Not full screen and the “fully customizable” controls can’t be placed on the black bars. If you’re not going to make your game fill the screen on newer iPhones, at least allow controls to be placed on the outer areas of the screen. A game like this with many buttons, having controls further away from the sides makes it uncomfortable to play and nearly unplayable IMO. I’m sure the port took a lot of work but it feels lazy not to be considerate of how a game would feel good to play on mobile. Sucks already not being full screen. But many, many other games use the space on black bars for controls. elcrazy Well-Known Member Sep 19, 2017 671 504 93 #4 elcrazy, Mar 19, 2024 This is my favourite game of all time. Sadly I won’t revisit it on mobile. I just don’t want to dampen my love of this game. The port doesn’t look great IMO. I don’t like the new look. Feels like it’s missing something. I am sure the controls won’t hold up but that is not what’s holding me back. iOS controls are what they are. I am eagerly and impatiently waiting for the sequel to hit on switch. Then I will give back into this mast piece of a series. One final note. I may have purchased this if it was a premium release that I could own. One to support and two maybe to mess around with it. But I don’t like the subscription model games. I do have Netflix but I have too many games as it is. I like to purchase things. Old school that way. hbernritter Well-Known Member Jul 15, 2010 950 33 28 Inventory/Marketing Manager Toledo, OH #5 hbernritter, Mar 19, 2024 Was just playing this offline on my lunch on my m1 ipad pro with the 8bit do lite 2 controller and it plays even smoother than on my switch. Beautiful too! Nice to have it's own built in cloud system too, switched over to my 14 pro with the gamevice controller and just as nice! Don't remember seeing the black bars on ipad but it is there on my phone which is an odd choice for sure. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,690 1,209 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #6 squarezero, Mar 19, 2024 Was the game active for you already? So many “new” games are doing it I don’t want it to become acceptable. Is the game that low res that they couldn’t have it fullscreen on an iPhone or even iPad… Or is there something I’m missing for why devs do this? anthony78 likes this. Dont get the hate for when its not full screen, its a large playing area so i dont mind at all if theres a black bar at the side. Might be a ratio issue but doesnt detract that its a great little game. Its Bastion-like with a fair bit of audio and its just fun. Rocksaint Well-Known Member Nov 29, 2013 651 351 63 #13 Rocksaint, Mar 20, 2024 Same here. Normally, I would not stand the black bars even in 2024. But since this a port, and a great one at that, I can understand. This is a PC game. Quite an old one now. For it to match the aspect ratio of so many different sized screens, it would probably need to be built from the ground up. I can see that happening for a F2P game in the current gaming market. But for a subscription-based game, I highly doubt it would be profitable. The most important thing is that the game plays and runs great. You can save anytime and it has a robust cloud save. That’s more than you can ask for, especially in today’s predatory mobile gaming market. Only one minor gripe I have is that everything’s a bit too small to my liking. But that’s just me. Overall, a classic addition to the Netflix gaming library. Definitely a win for them, and us. squarezero and AltsKev like this. psj3809 Moderator Jan 13, 2011 12,915 671 113 England #14 psj3809, Mar 20, 2024 Exactly ! To convert an older PC game or console to iOS must be a nightmare specially with the screen and also all the different phone sizes. Love the fact that on this mobile device i have i have so many classic console/PC games over the years on one device. Love it. Still wish i could 'own' this game outright by buying it but i suppose i wont be cancelling Netflix ever so its all good ! But a great game release by Netflix, been very impressed with a lot of their titles. elcrazy, AltsKev and Rocksaint like this. elcrazy Well-Known Member Sep 19, 2017 671 504 93 #15 elcrazy, Mar 20, 2024 So Happy everyone is loving this. I may fire it back up on my Switch. But I really wanted to wait for the sequel to experience the magic again. Best game I have ever played! anthony78 Well-Known Member Nov 13, 2015 3,112 683 113 #16 anthony78, Mar 20, 2024 Again, the issue isn’t just that it’s not full screen. It’s that you can’t even put the buttons on the black area of the screen (despite even having customizable controls). There are many games that are not full screen but still are using the black area for controls. Heck, even The Binding of Isaac got an update to allow for that (and we know how little support that game has gotten overall). You can keep the aspect ratio of the original and still make it comfortable and more friendly to play for mobile users. But that’s fine. I’ll play this game elsewhere and play the hundreds of other games I have for mobile, including ports that are done right. Not going to excuse this just because it’s Hades. sebgo Well-Known Member Dec 26, 2010 763 341 63 Male 95% leisure. Somewhere in a town amidst the Amazon jungle. http://www.google.com #17 sebgo, Mar 20, 2024 Yeah... a fair bit of audio... let me know, when you reach the 100th escape attempt, if you ever come across an NPC that says anything without a recorded line. The amount of voiced dialogues is mindblowing, even if they consist of just a few lines. Hades is easily a keeper on the Switch for me. The amount of stuff to unlock, boons to choose from and mix during each run, different weapons with several upgrades and playstyles, difficulty modifiers, summons, permanent upgrades for Zag, dialogues, dialogues, dialogues, plus a narrative that develops with each run. It's more like Bastion and Transistor had a kid that won't stop talking and evolving. 100+ hours in and I still have lots of stuff to unlock and do, plus challenges to overcome. It only suffers from a bit of repetitiveness once you've managed to finish several runs, but that's ONE negative aspect against a bunch of positive ones. I don't know how the game runs on the phone, I'm still not eager to download it just to check that, especially since it's ready to be played on the Switch, though. brerlappin Well-Known Member Feb 10, 2009 722 30 28 #18 brerlappin, Mar 20, 2024 Awesome game so far!
