Palm Pre fixes the iTunes Sync, even though Apple just released an iTunes update preventing it from doing so.

I just thought it was funny that Apple thought they kicked the Pre in the nutsack, only to have the ball served right back in their court lol.

Do you guys think Apple is going to keep fighing this? How long do you think it will be before they both quit trying to fight each other off? There is a fine line of illigality, isn't there?

Anyways I think the Pre should sync with iTunes anyways. Who the hell does it hurt? Not me.

Thats funny, Apple/iTunes could make this be good because look: If a Palm Pre User want to put music from itunes onto thier Palm Pre they migt buy it from the iTunes Store, but then again they could use some torrent for downloading music....Honestly why would Apple care so much if it syncs with iTunes?

The iTunes store exists to sell iPods, not Palm Pres.

But if a Palm Pre user buys music from iTunes isnt that a plus for Apple?
I understand that if Apple wants iTunes to be for iPods only though..

iTunes make very few to little money for Apple and that the only reason we have it is to sell iPods and iPhones

...Which is exactly why Apple is blocking the Palm Pre, so it can sell iPods and iPhones.

Well, Palm Pre + iPhones + iPods..= more money from itunes. I rather have a iPod Touch than a Palm Pre cause of all the contract fees etc..

Think about it, if someone has a Palm Pre, why would they want to by an iPod? And more money to the relatively tiny amount coming from millions of users?

Profit from iPod + iTunes > Profit from just iTunes

Even more so if the consumer continues to get the next generation of Palm Pres instead of getting the next generations of ipods.

Another reason Apple will keep blocking the Pre is that they quite correctly don't want to waste money on doing technical support for Palm Pre users who have effectively hacked their way into iTunes sync and Palm's hacking and fakery has the potential to cause problems and crashes.

But if someone buys a iPod before a Pre...There are more iPod Users than Pre users and maybe more iPhone users than Pre users.
iPods are cheaper than Palm Pre's so thats the cheaper alternative.
If I want music from iTunes I'll buy a iPod because they are cheaper than a Palm Pre...

    at my computer?
It doesn't matter if there are more iPhone users than Pre users. Every person that buys a Pre instead of and iPhone to use on iTunes is costing Apple money. It doesn't matter which one has more, its the simple fact that Apple wants EVERY device using iTunes to be an Apple product.

edit: at least I think thats what he was getting at...

Right, I understand but if there is a Palm Pre user that buys music from iTunes Store that means money for Apple, yea they lost out on selling a iPhone but still...

    Ehh.. I guess it's a control issue.

Apple controls iPhone and iTunes, and iTunes is one of the major reasons the iPhone is so successful. iTunes is so convenient for the iPhone users, and the Palm Pre is a major competitor to the iPhone. So... Palm Pre using iTunes is somewhat bad for Apple since Palm Pre's monthly is cheaper and if it offers more than iPhone, iPhone sales are gonna go down the drain.

It's a little confusing, but it makes sense in my mind :p Apple blocking Palm Pre is a right choice business wise and really, Palm is so lazy. Why don't they make another music whatever store to sync with Palm Pre instead of stealing Apple's gold mine?

Palm is not exactly very good at this whole "making software" thing, as evident by how long they depended on different bastardizations of Palm OS, pasting new features and other worthless crap on top for over ten years then giving up and switching to Windows Mobile.

They get more cash from an iPhone than a few song purchases spread over the course of a year or so. Think about it, part of the money has to go the artists, then the label, then ultimately them. It's not much. Plus, if someone gets an iPhone there's a good chance they'll continue buying Apple products over the course of their lifetime.

The Palm Pre is not a major competitor. It's a good little phone that appeals to a minority of the cell phone market, but it will never, ever become a major rival. They may market themselves as such, but they're not. And iPhone sales going down the drain, well that's not going to happen either, is it?

I don't know I just find it fascinating. Business-wise, Apple will need to do all they can to keep the Pre from syncing up (iTunes will be giving apple money, but like everyone has said: iPod + iTunes > Other Devices + iTunes). But from a user standpoint, F*CK everyone. Everything should sync with everything. Too optimistic, I know, and I also know it will never happen. But man... greed really irriates me. I don't own a Palm Pre, and I think they should get there own store, but if they don't... then why not. It'll make the customer happy.

But then again that's never what the point is... customer satisfaction is a thing of the old. It's all about control here, and it's obvious Apple will continue to retain as much control as they possibly can.

I was just wondering what everyone thinks as to how long this battle will continue before someone just gives up.
