Then he needs to own up to what he did. Wrong is wrong, my child or not! So if you're nephew was in the video, you wouldn't be mad?
There was something like this on Reno 911, where an officer sang a song to kids about molestation. Only difference I can see is permission from the parents, and slightly more explicit lyrics. Not to say it isn't messed up, I mean I don't get why he'd do it in the first place, but 20 years is ridiculous. Convicted rapists and worse have gotten off with less than that.
I'd normally agree, but if we're going with the whole "freedom of speech" thing, I always interpreted that as not getting locked up for criticizing the government, another person, etc. This type of thing kinda blurs the lines for me, because while he's allowed the right to do what he wants, the level of offense he committed against the children and their parents is pretty heinous. Plus, the internet is technically a private domain, so you are limited as to what you are allowed to say and do, even if the children weren't there. Perhaps you're right by saying that this should be handled by lawsuit rather than other means, though. That does make more sense.
The guy has issued an apology of sorts, and he is in custody already. And no. Hypothetically, if the video had suddenly gained massive interest and racked up 10 million views, then I might be mad: more because of the lack of permission than anything, the content of the video is unimportant to me, it's not like he would be exposed to the explicit content of it. But as it is, nothing bad has happened, stupid guy made a stupid video, give him some community service to do and move on.
I think that we can all agree to disagree on this subject. Everyone has their opinions. I say we leave it at that!
This is an issue I feel pretty conflicted about. On the one hand, in addition to this being a complete douchebag move on this guy's part, it would be absolutely terrible if one of the kids involved saw this video (it isn't a big stretch for a kid to say, "Oh, I liked that song... let me search youtube for this guy") and it would be equally horrific if the people the kids interact with saw the video. On the one hand, I don't want to see any kind of artistic expression repressed. (Many people would argue that this isn't "art", but they said the same thing about Jackson Pollock many-a-year-ago...) If he can be prosecuted in a way that it isn't about the art, I'd be fine with that. I'm not legal-savvy enough to know what the law says about a situation like this. But there is a clear violation of, at the least, human dignity. I don't know if jail-time is the answer--but he definitely needs a quick slap of reality. I'm also thinking that perhaps publicizing this case will do more harm than good. The more people who hear about it, the more "famous" this guy will become. And, worse, the more people will be interested in checking out the video--which may have been taken down from youtube, but nothing ever disappears from the internet... not really.
He's an idiot, not a pedophile. 30 days is enough or failing that, a punch in the face and call it even. It's pretty obvious he's not gonna pull the same trick after realizing it's not quite as funny as he thought. Putting this guy away for longer is just a waste of money and further proof of how f***ed up the prison system over there is. Actual child molesters and murderers roam free while the cops are jumping all over one YouTube retard.
I'm conflicted myself 20 years is ridiculous but the fact he actually went to the school and filmed the kids himself is worrying I originally thought he was using some kind of stock footage. I'm against censorship so I guess that wins out but this guys walking a fine line and probably should be open to lawsuits from the parents. I don't think jail is appropriate but I'd keep an eye on the guy anyway.
Haha, too true. Christina Aguilera as well. I seem to recall during the last series of X Factor she took a few million kids to some slutty whore-ridden burlesque show.
oh ya forgot about that. And they are more readily available than this. I mean S&M is played on the radio at all times and nothing is said.
Now what was he doing on school grounds? As a parent, I find it disturbing that my kids would be exposed to this kind of sh*t... but as a person... I think that our kids are exposed to worse things. Am not saying its right, but did what he did actually constitute child abuse?
The children weren't exposed to anything obscene. He sung a clean version and replaced the audio with the dirty version which he recorded in private. What he did was wrong and disgusting, but his mistake was uploading it to youtube for other people to see, obviously without anyone's permission. I don't think he deserves any time in jail, but he should have to do community service at least.
Someone I know in the UK here was systematically sexually abusing children under 15 over a period of about 12 months, he got 6 years in jail. America you are weird.
